As much as she wanted to, Hadley stopped herself from reading too into the situation. It would only spark ideas that would make everything feel more awkward than they needed to be. She took his words as they were and shrugged, if he said it was nothing then so be it. Although the back of her mind nagged that it was exactly what she was thinking.
"Of course! I wouldn't leave without eating, its very rare that I have actual meals if you couldn't already tell." Home cooked food sounded too good to be true and she couldn't wait for it. There was no reason for her to leave either, it wasn't like she had any pressing matters to attend to. "I'm always hungry man." Snacks were what kept her going but she knew a few square meals a day would reduce her cravings.
"Are you hungry yet? I can wait if you don't feel like cooking."

That little bit of confirmation really helped him calm down and he started to feel really silly at how he was acting. "Let's go ahead and start dinner; the fries need to bake," he stated and hopped up off the couch. First thing was first and he prepped the potatoes for the oven, making sure to preheat first. He'd, embarrassingly enough, been known to forget about preheating the oven and he didn't want to do that tonight. He'd already made a fool of himself in his personal opinion. More examples were not desired at that present time. Once the fries were prepped and the oven was ready for them, he popped them inside and moved on to frying up the fish. "What do you like to put on your fish? I have malt vinegar and of course I have lemons, too. Not to mention ketchup; that's a thing," Basil called out to Hadley, not sure if she managed to follow him into the kitchen or not, his attention on the frying pan. He smiled as he cooked and waited for her answer. This was fun, he thought, and cooking for others was something he really enjoyed doing. It made him feel warm inside and really boosted his mood. It wasn't often that he was able to do something like that.

Hadley's steps were sluggish as she followed him into the kitchen, stretching along the way. Sitting down was lots of hard work you know. She sat down at the table and watched him prep the food, if they could have stars would have been in her eyes. An attractive dude that could cook? 'Yes please.' Of course that'd be kept to herself and his next question broke her concentration on his back.
"Oh um, probably vinegar? I've never had this type of fried fish though, vinegar sounds good." The thought of anything fried made her stomach grumble and she brought her hands to it. "Eheh, sorry."
She stood up to hover next to him while he cooked, curious as to how it was done. "As much as I love food I suck at cooking. You seem pretty pro." It was nice to see someone cooking food that would be shared between them. A feeling she wasn't used to but it was nice.

Her voice seemed closer than he imagined it to be and when he turned to look at where she sat, suddenly, she was right beside him. His face flushed bright red at her being so close and he suddenly felt self-conscious as he cooked. At least he could blame his red face on the heat of the frying pan. It got hot cooking! Really! "Aheh, I uh... I hope you like this, then. If you want... you can um... You can have a little taste when I finish frying up a piece," Basil mentioned, tilting his head to the side and smiling like a fool. What was he smiling about? Oh, nothing much, just the thought of him feeding her a piece. No big deal, right? "Nothing is fresher than straight out of the pan."Of course he wouldn't just give her a piece directly off the pan. He'd let it cool down on a paper towel first. There's no reason for hot grease burns of the mouth. That was just dangerous. He could see it then. She'd take a bite and burn her mouth, get offended and walk out. "How dare someone try to feed another person something directly off the heat like that?" That's what she would say and then slam the door behind her. His imagination was something to behold. Perhaps he could lay off some of the drama novels he'd been reading...

"Ooooh." She rubbed her hands together in delight and bounced up and down a bit. "It already smells so good oh gosh." Hadley smiled back up at him, mind completely preoccupied with the thought of food.
"Straight out of the pan always ends up in me burning myself." She was not a talented cook nor was she patient enough to wait for the food to cool off. Getting burned was always her fault. Her gaze was directed towards the fish, almost willing it to hurry up frying.
"Basiiil, how long will it take?" An impatient tone tinged her voice and she had to hold herself back from shaking his arm. She thought about having another snack, and her steps brought her over to the fridge. As she peered into it, she realized nothing looked as good as the fish at the moment. Having done a full rotation around the kitchen, Hadley huffed and sat down back at the table.

A chuckle pulled from his throat at her impatience, though when he heard her start going through the fridge, he spoke up quickly and stern, "Do NOT get anything out of that fridge or I'll have to beat you with a wooden spoon for ruining your appetite with junk again." When he turned around and saw her sitting at the table empty-handed however, he nodded towards her way as-a-matter-of-factly and furrowed his eyebrows. "That's right. You sit there and behave yourself."Afterwards, he couldn't help but snicker at himself.... Him, getting angry at Hadley for ruining her appetite. Who was he supposed to be, acting like that? Another laugh escaped him as he spoke again, "Just a little while longer. Come here and you can have a taste. I've already got a piece cooling on the paper towels." He pointed to the small piece of fish with his fork, further showing her the evidence.
