She figured he was speaking from experience by the tone of his voice. Still, it didn't lessen the guilt bubbling up inside. "You sound like you'd know how it feels, so you cant deny how hard it is not to think its your fault." Hadley was a difficult person to handle, she was horrid at times and she was constantly wondering how even strangers could deal with her. Another deep sigh had her running her hand over her tied up hair.
"This one was more one-sided than anything." She doubted he had even liked her to begin with and only entered the relationship out of guilt. The line moved forward and it her turn finally, she started to set everything on the conveyor belt before turning to him. "You sure you don't want anything before we go?" The talk of relationships was dragging her spirits down by the minute, those upsetting memories never stopped replaying in her head. |

This was bad. This was really, really bad. Somehow, Basil wished they would have had this conversation at his house instead. He wished they weren't in the middle of a grocery store with a buggy full of junk food and alcohol. His hand reached out to grab hers, or perhaps to wrap his arm around her, to pull her closer to him, but he hesitated and stopped when he realized what he was doing. "Basil, what the bloody hell are you thinking!? You can't do that," scolding himself inside his head. He just couldn't help it, though. She looked so pitiful and he couldn't stand seeing her that way. His thoughts are jolted when she finally asked him if he wanted anything from the store one last time and with a smile he shook his head, reaching for the food in the cart and helping her place it on the conveyor belt. "No, that's alright. I'm waiting for when we go clothes shopping. That's where all my money is going," he replied with a smirk. She was right, though. He did understand. He understood more than he would have liked. But he also understood how much he had to move on, too. Basil didn't think she'd want to hear that, so he didn't mention it out loud.

"Whatever floats your boat then!" With the last of the food sliding down the belt, she took a moment to playfully shake her head at him. "I don't think I'll ever understand you choosing clothes over food, I mean look!" She grabbed the box of mock thinmint girlscout cookies, peppermint and chocolate all wrapped up into one delicious circle. "If you regret it later I'm not giving you any~"
She sauntered over to the counter and leaned, supporting herself on her forearms and politely chatting up the cashier. Although, her thoughts were far from the current light topic and her smile was far less wide than usual. She pulled out a few bills, then rummaged around her wallet to swipe her card. She usually payed like that for groceries, always liking to have a bit of both on hand.
The groceries were bagged, with her help of course and the cart filled looking more full than before. Hadley looked at her mountain of groceries, a bit taken aback of how much she had really bought this time. As if it were his fault she glared slightly in his direction. "Basil, I thought you were supposed to stop me from going overboard!" Hadley wasn't really made at him either, she doubted she could ever truly be angry at him. But that didn't stop her from feigning offense and pushing the cart out of the store with a huff.
The cart was harder to push on the uneven pavement and she immediately regretted buying so much. (The regret was short lived when she remembered just what she had bought.) For once, she sucked up her pride and opted for the lazy route, using the excuse that he should be more useful. "Hey, come give me a hand Basil! Its really fuckin- freaking heavy." She quickly corrected her words as a child walked by, smiling sheepishly at the mother. |

"Oh, I highly doubt that I'll regret it," he replied with a smile, his voice softer than normal. He watched as she paid for her food and wondered what it was that she was so heartbroken over. He knew the broad term, but it was the specifics he was curious about. That smile was forced and her laughs seemed rather empty when she'd chuckle at something the cashier said. It hurt his heart to see her that way and it was right then and there that he made a promise to himself that he'd do anything for her. Anything, just so she wouldn't have to fake a smile anymore. So she would't have to feel hurt anymore. Before he realized it, they were already outside and she was scolding him again for not being helpful. He laughed and jogged up to the buggy to help her push it, shaking his head from the weight of everything inside. "Well, if you hadn't have bought the whole store then it might not be so heavy." He conveniently decided to not hear the part where she "reprimanded" him for letting her buy so much. The bags were stuffed into the trunk of the car, and even placed in the backseat there were so many, and when the cart was empty, Basil pushed it to the collection area, then hurried back to buckle in. Ahhh, now it was his turn to spend money on things that he didn't necessarily need, but wanted to get anyway because that's fun to do sometimes, when the situation called for it. And this time, it definitely called for it. "So, onward to the clothes store, then? Not too cheap now. This is therapy, remember?" Basil said with a smirk, winking her way as he got comfortable in his seat. "Or wait... should we drop off all the food? Some of it might spoil...Wouldn't want that"

"Yuck clothes." She wasted no time pulling out of the parking lot and into the street. "Yeah, to your place it is then." Hadley forced herself to be calm and casual, but the prospect of going back to his house to drop off food seemed weird. It made a knot form in her stomach, and she couldn't quite pinpoint why.
"I hope you don't mind of course!" She quickly added that in, realizing she had been the one to assume they'd drop things off at his home. "I mean, my house is a bit farther away and it just seemed... logical or. Uh, you know don't want to waste gas?" She laughed nervously and continued towards his house, but waited for any sign of refusal. |

He didn't expect for her to want to drop everything off at his place, but he didn't have any issues with it. "Alright," he replied with a nod, not showing any signs of annoyance or discomfort. He ignored the comment about clothes, knowing that she was only trying to tease him and/or had no desire to buy clothes when she didn't need them. Either reason was a valid one for Hadley. Basil did wonder how long it would take for them to empty out the trunk of the car. There were a lot of bags and he was trying to mentally figure out where they were going to put it all... Some would have to sit on the counters... He'd have to make some room in the fridge, but that wasn't a big deal. There wasn't all that much in the fridge anyway. Yeah, he could make it all work. "It's not a problem. I wouldn't want you to waste gas or anything like that. There's enough room at my place for all your stuff," he continued on, looking over at her with a smile. That was the first step in making her happy. Yes. He'd already decided it. That's what friends did, right? They did little favors like that for them? She didn't even have to do anything for him in return. Yeah, he was sure other people did that type of thing, too.

She let out the breath she had been holding and nodded as well. "Sweet, sweet, sweet." She was glad she didnt have to pull a u-turn and head to her home, it would have been awkward that she'd assume she could just barge in like that.
Hadley averted her eyes from the road for a second to glance over at him, which led to her nearly running in to the car in front of her. It had stopped too quickly and her foot slammed on the breaks. "Holy shit!" Bad drivers were a norm and it happened nearly every day but that didn't stop the flash of anger in her eyes. "You stupid fuck! I could have fucked up this car even more than it already is! I swear, I'm going to go and kick your face in-" She made a move to roll down her windows and stick her head out to yell, but the presence of Basil made her press back firmly into her seat angrily.
"Sorry about that." Maybe that was a sure sign to not worry about him being there, just to go with the flow and relax. The red light turned to green and they were off again, her trying to keep her cool and mumbling about how everyone in Nova should have their licenses revoked. A few sharp turns and lights later, they pulled up in front of his complex. "Okay so, how do you think we're gonna get this all in?" Her head turned to examine the back seat filled with groceries. Granted it wasn't the biggest car, but it still was enough food to last her a while.
After turning off the car and getting out she went to start unloading the trunk, and waited for his suggestion.

Hadley's sudden road rage definitely caught Basil's attention, though all he did was stare at her and blink with a face that showed surprise, yet a feeling of "how stereotypical" at the same time. He smirked, perking a brow as his face relaxed when he was sure they weren't going to get into an accident, "Drivers nowadays... They had to have paid off the instructors to get that little piece of plactic." That's what he said, but he knew half of it was her fault for not looking at the road in front of her. He figured that deep down she knew that, so he didn't bother with mentioning it to her. One at the apartment, he got out of the car and helped her grab the groceries from the back seat. "I guess we'll be making several trips until it's all inside," Basil answered, pulling out his keys when he got up to his door. He let them in, then placed what bags he had in his hands down on the counter before going back for more. That went on for a little while until all the groceries were brought inside. What needed to be placed in the fridge or freezer was put in their place while everything else remained in the bags for convenience. "There, see? I told you everything would fit," he replied with a smile.

When they finished, Hadley was out of breath and huffing and puffing."Alright, easier than I thought yeah." All she wanted to do was lay down and sleep for a good day, but that would have disappointed him.
"Onwards to the clothing store?" The weather outside had started to heat up even more, making her roll up the sleeves of her t-shirt. "I didn't factor in the heat today to be honest." Once in the car, she turned the AC on full blast and rolled the windows up to keep the cold air in.
"Tell me if it gets too cold Basil, I'll turn it down." Hadley almost pulled off from the curb to get driving before she realized she had no idea where to go. She turned towards him and scratched her head. "Ok so, I don't go over there all that often. Which way is it?" |

She was right in the fact that the heat picked up out of nowhere and he was more than grateful for the AC. He wasn't built for extreme heat like it was starting to feel like. "No, don't worry. I doubt that I'll end up getting too cold. I'm from England, remember?" Basil said with a slight teasing tone to his voice. He wouldn't dare admit it, but butterflies fluttered in his stomach when she actually addressed him by his name. Basil hadn't heard her say it much, and he remembered when she used to try and call him Mr. Atwood. He glowered at that thought and hoped to the gods that she couldn't see any type of redness on his face that he could definitely feel rising. "Ah... they're in the shopping district with most of the other shopping places," he replied, glancing out the passenger window for a moment before looking at her again when he was sure his face wasn't as red. If anything, he could blame it on the heat. Basil patiently guided her through the streets towards the shopping centre he was used to shopping at when the urge struck him. It actually wasn't all that far from the grocery store they'd just left, just a few more miles down the road past it. "I can't wait to get inside, Basil complained as they pulled into the parking lot. "There's a parking garage around the corner and I'd suggest using that, considering how hot it is all of the sudden..."

"True, true. I'm obviously not from there so I get chilly in the car sometimes." It could get annoying though, a constant circle of turning off the air because she got too cold and turning it back on because it got too hot.
Hadley followed his directions nodding silently. "Wow its closer than I thought." She really should have gone shopping for clothes more often, but for some reason she didn't. She preferred makeup and hair dye with simple outfits. Even then she was lazy with it.
"Settle down now." She remarked playfully. He seemed so eager to go shopping. She drove down the block to the parking garage, got the ticket from the machine and pulled up to the parking attendant in a booth. She rolled down the window and pushed her sunglasses up on her face to flash the attendant a polite smile.
"Hello there ma'am, here it is." Her hand stretched out to let her stamp the ticket and drove forward when it was cleared. "Thank the lord for parking garages." A relieved sigh let her lips after she parked and opened the door, only to be hit with a cool breeze. She laced her fingers over her head and stretched, t-shirt riding up a bit before turning towards him.
"Okie dokie, lead the way sir." A lazy saulte before she put her hands on her hips and waited. |

When the car came to a park, Basil unbuckled his seat belt and got out to stretch as well, letting out a soft noise of satisfaction. With the mixture of sitting in the car and putting all those groceries in his apartment, his muscles deserved a good stretch. He closed the door behind him and walked around the car to meet up with Hadley, smiling happily now that he was about to buy clothes. Perhaps, if there was a little candle store nearby he could buy a few--he was almost out anyway and grocery store candles were not the type of candles he wanted to be lighting in his house. "After we get clothes, mind if we walk to the little candle and incense shop nearby? I'm almost out and I need to get more," Basil asked as he started out towards the clothes store, his hands slipped casually in his pockets. He was prepared for the teasing that ensued that question, but he had a good reason for it in response. As they walked, Basil's hair flowed gently in the wind, brushing around his shoulders and across his back. He'd wished he would have grabbed a hair tie before leaving the house, but at the time his hair was wet and he didn't really need it. Oh well. He supposed there wasn't anything he could do about it but put up with it.

She shot him a questioning look while trailing slightly behind him. "Candles, incense?" She snorted and moved to walk next to him. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. What are you planning? Got a hot date you didn't tell me about?"
Hadley glanced up at him to examine his features, noticing his long hair for the first time in a while. "Huh, I never really paid attention to it but damn you're hair is pretty long." She reached up to touch it, not really thinking about what she was doing and quickly withdrew her hand. "W-whoa sorry!" Chuckling nervously, she tried to play it off. "It's just so luxurious I couldn't help myself?"
'Wow, way to make things worse.' Her eyes were trained to the ground now and she crossed her arms over her chest, not knowing what to do with them.

Basil slowed down when he felt Hadley's fingers in his hair and he blinked from slight surprise, though he didn't get angry or upset over it. He didn't really say much of anything about the gesture, though secretly he liked it. To help Hadley feel better, he changed the subject to the former. "No, I don't have a 'hot date' or anything like that. I practice the occult, remember?" he responded with a grin. "I use them when I practice. That and I do like the scent they give off in general. Sometimes I'll light them even when I'm not doing a ritual."Ah, "ritual". He hoped that word didn't scare Hadley off. He wasn't dangerous or anything. All he practiced was white magic for healing, cleansing, and protection. Sometimes he'd do it for a bit of luck, but found that it did more harm than good, so he hadn't done that in a very, very long time. "Besides, why would I have a hot date? If I did, you'd be the first to know," he continued with a smirk.

Basil's change of topic was a relief to her and she finally looked up at him again. "Rituals?" She raised a brow slightly and playfully took a couple steps away from him. "You're not gonna curse me or anything right?" She clasped her hands together and frowned. "Oh my god I'm sorry for teasing you all the time, I just can't help it!"
Hadley started to giggle and let her arms go back to being crossed. A weird feeling bubbled up inside of her when she heard that he did not have a date. She didn't know if she was relieved or happy or completely neutral to it all.
"I don't know! Why wouldn't you have a hot date?" He was an attractive dude, and she'd admit that! At least... not to his face. But still, she wouldn't be surprised if he did end up telling her out of the blue that he had some very attractive date lined up. "The first to know? And why is that?"
