He let out a sigh and ran his fingers through his hair, but ended up smiling anyways when he saw Hadley was only kidding. "I only do white magic--nothing harmful or dangerous. So you don't have anything to worry about."He didn't care that Hadley teased him; not really. Basil knew it was only for fun and that she did it because she liked him. Though when she asked him why she would be the first to know, he let out a soft chuckle as if she were kidding again. "Because it would be you---" but when he realized what he'd said, he froze and looked at her nervously and smiled, scratching the back of his head. He had to think fast. "--you...that I told first. I don't... really have anyone else to tell and... I'd want you to be the first to know, of course. Aheh..."The gods damn it all. He cleared his throat and when they approached the double doors leading into the store, Basil held open one of them for Hadley, looking anywhere but at her face, his own redder than a bright red apple.

“Ooh, that sounds interesting. Palm reading and white magic, never would’ve thought you were the type.” She didn’t mean anything bad by it. Not at all, in fact she really was interested in the fact that he did those types of things.
His explanation seemed weird and disjointed. Her ears perked up at the first part and she looked at him in a sort of bewildered state. But then, he came up with the rest which left her with a sort of empty feeling. "Yeah, uh, right I get you." Now her emotions were even more confused, had she been hoping for more? Had she read too much into what he said or what it sounded like he was going to say? Was she sad that he didn’t say it? Hadley honestly didn’t know and just nodded slowly.
She noted that his face seemed red, maybe it was the heat. She told herself it was indeed the heat even though she suspected it could have been something more. “Uhm, y-you ok? Do you want to get some water or something? They should have a vending machines or…” Her steps brought her inside the quite big and very chilly store, which was a great change from outside.
It had clothes everywhere, as well as other things like shoes accessories and bags. It honestly had everything any fashionable person could ever want and Hadley did not consider herself that at all. "I do not belong here." She laughed at herself and looked down at her messy clothing.

What was that? Did Hadley just... sound disappointed? Basil swallowed thickly as he walked into the store behind her, wondering if he should just tell her or not, but ended up telling himself no in the long run. He was sure that would make things extremely awkward and all he wanted to do was have a fun time picking out clothes. "No, it's alright. I'll be fine. It feels a lot better in here and I think I've...cooled down a bit," he replied as he walked deeper into the store, his dress shoes clicking against the tiled floors. "What would you like to look at first?"However, when Hadley put herself down, saying she didn't belong, that struck something within Basil, making him feel a bit sad. "Of course you belong... You have such a lovely face. You could pull off anything." He was frowning a little, his eyebrows arched rather pitifully before he even realized what he was doing with his face. He looked around the store and hurried over to a rather cute blouse, holding it up on the hanger up against the front of Hadley. "See? This color looks amazing against your complexion."

She scratched at her arm awkwardly and followed him like a little lost puppy. Which she was. Hadley was out of her comfort zone in there and didn't really know what to do. Her cheeks became warm and red at his casual compliment and she waved it away. "Nah..."
When the blouse was thrusted in front of her her eyes opened wide in confusion. "Uh, I don't know about that. I mean I've never really worn something like this." That was a bluff, she had worn plenty of nice things before. It was just the past couple relationships and years she had been through had put a damper on her liking for dressing up.
"I don't even know what I want to look at. How about you look at clothes for yourself first?" Basil seemed like he really wanted to look for clothing, and it'd be rude of her(in her opinion) to get in the way of that. "Honestly, you go try on stuff! What do you even wear besides slacks and button-ups?" She wasn't trying to be rude, she was just wondering if he wore anything besides that or if he maybe had a secret liking for ripped jeans and band t-shirts. |

What was he to do? With a shrug, he put the blouse on the rack and turned on his heel towards the men's department. As he walked, he made sure she was following him and smiled when she was. "Well, it depends on the weather I suppose. I wear vests and sweaters, long sleeved shirts with the sleeves rolled up if it's too hot... slacks or skinny pants. I think I have a few pairs of jeans, but I don't really wear them often--no wait... I donated those," he replied as he approached a rack with nice, stripped shirts. "If I can wear it to work, I wear it outside of work, too."What was sad was, he couldn't even say that he wore band t-shirts to bed... because he honestly didn't wear anything to bed. "I wear suits, too... Though I only wear those on special occasions. I have a bunch of suits. I think a man should own at least one suit and a better man owns more than one," he turned towards Hadley and flashed her a wink. He was clearly a better man.

"Depends... on the weather..." She rested her face in her hands before shaking her head lightly and started to laugh. "You donated your jeans?!" Hadley couldn't keep a straight face and she burst out into more fits of giggles. She couldn't believe that was all her wore, it felt like an injustice to all the casual and comfortable t-shirts and jeans out there.
His wink didn't even affect her, and his comment about suits made her giggle again. She had finally smiled that day and it was at his expense, but at least she found something to laugh at. "You are the biggest dork ever, oh my god, I love it."
"Ok, ok how about this!" After she had stopped laughing, she started to examine his outfit and what he was looking at. "I'll pick out something for you to wear. I'll even buy it, but you have to wear it! In exchange, I'll buy myself something nice that you pick out, and I will wear it." She raised her shoulders questioningly, and hoped he would accept. Lord knows he needed at least one pair of jeans. |

Basil stood there in the middle of the men's department of the store, blinking with reddened cheeks as Hadley laughed at him. What was so funny about donating jeans? If he wasn't going to wear them, then at least someone else would. After a moment or two, he crossed his arms and huffed, still red from the embarrassment of being laughed at. He tapped his foot, waiting for Hadley to calm down and when she finally did, he looked at her again and perked a brow at her proposal. He got to pick out whatever he wanted and Hadley would have to wear it? But, in return, he'd have to wear whatever Hadley picked out for him. Hmm... that really was quite the situation, but he smiled something wicked. "Alright, I accept. I'll wear whatever it is that you pick out for me and you wear whatever it is that I pick out for you," he replied with a nod. How bad could it be? Hadley didn't have bad tastes in clothes as far as he was aware, though she bought clothes for herself... And he knew he'd pick out only the best clothes for Hadley to wear. Yeah, he didn't have anything to worry about... But he secretly worried about it anyway. "What... are you going to have me wear?"

"D'aww, don't get huffy now." Her smile was mischievous, clearly enjoying teasing him. "Hmm." She stared at what he was looking at and shook her head slowly. "Definitely not that." No, he would not leave without something that didn't button up.
Before starting to search the racks, she shot him a look. "I trust you'll pick out something... uh. Nice?" She was sure he would, but she wasn't sure if it would be her style. Which when dressing up nice, was still sort of street wear. Or at least, wasn't what people thought of when they thought fancy. |

With a smile Basil nodded. "Yes, I'll be sure to pick out something nice for you. I won't dress you up to look silly; I promise. I wouldn't do something like that... I have a perfect idea of what to pick out, but I won't tell you until it's your turn," he said as he put the shirt he was holding back onto the rack it came from. So you go ahead and pick something out for me, okay? And I'll try it on for you."He was a little more worried than before, but if he picked something for her out after she'd already picked out what she wanted him to wear, she didn't get the chance to punish him. It was a terrible plan, but he was proud of it. "Though uh... you never did tell me what it was that you were going to have me wear... Are you not going to tell me at all beforehand?"

She cackled at his question before looking him up and down to gauge his sizes. "Telling you beforehand would ruin the fun!" A few racks down, she grabbed a loose red plaid button up. It was to help him stay in his comfort zone, she wasn't always inconsiderate. Behind that rack lay neatly folded cotton t-shirts.
"Ok ok, go wait or close your eyes! Don't spoil the surprise." Hadley compared a few before grabbing a thin black tee with a low cut neck, and white designs on the front. She giggled to herself, pleased that she could share the joy of t-shirts with him.
"Hmm." The tricky part was the pants. She figured he was a big enough size, despite his slim build. "A 38? 40?" Hadley grabbed what looked like his size, staring at his pants any more than she already had seemed like a creepy thing to do. If they didn't fit he could always get another pair.
With a deep breath she smiled wide. "Alright turn around! Have at it!" She shoved the clothes into his arms and waited for his reaction. |

He turned around only to have him turned back around again, though this time with clothes in his hands. He was pushed towards the dressing rooms faster than he could register what he was holding and he was locked away inside before he had the chance to protest. "Now, why in the world would I have any reason to wear this stuff? I can't wear it to work..." Basil complained, his voice echoing from inside the dressing room, but he put all the clothes on anyway. A deal was a deal. Once he was finished changing, and he fixed his hair, Basil stepped out of the dressing room. The pants fit snugly in all the right places and the black t-shirt was just the right size. It looked especially nice with the plaid shirt, giving his outfit a simple pop of color. Not only did it look nice against the black, but it brought out the red in his hair, making it look rustier than it usually would. "So... how do I look?" he asked, feeling a little awkward in such clothing and it probably showed, but he tried his hardest not to let it.

Her eyes rolled and she laughed at his complaint. "Because some days call for legitimate casual wear!" Hadley bounced on her toes a bit as she waited for him to get changed, excited to see his new look. She had never seen him in anything other than slacks, and well, now a bathrobe but that was beside the point. She was a sucker for jeans and plaid shirts on anyone, so it would be a treat to see him like that.
A few moments later, which she noted in the back of her brain as quite quick, he emerged from dressing room looking good as fuck. She brought a fist to her mouth and sucked in air sharply. Damn, holy hot damn. She inwardly nodded before smiling brightly at him.
"Holy shit Basil! You look... dare I say hot?" This was so fun to her, she finally could say things like that without feeling awkward. Just like she always did, just like it should have been. "Man, if I didn't know you I'd snatch you up in a second." Well, she had to stop herself there and backtrack a bit. "Hah! You know what I mean, its not like I wouldn't now. Its not like I would either-- Just... ugh you get me man, you get me." Hadley would not let the awkwardness reach her, and if it did get to him well tough luck.
She blew off the comment, not wanting to dwell on it and walked up to him. Her arm reached out to give him a pat on the shoulder. "I'm so proud." She muttered, wiping a fake tear. "Whatever I have to wear next, this was worth it."

Instantly, Basil's face grew hot and red from the compliments. Not to mention all that talk about Hadley snatching him up. She was trying to back pedal and he noticed it. That made him all the more confused and he cracked a small smile from nervousness. "Well, you seem to be rather enthusiastic about how fantastic I look in these clothes. I suppose I'll... attempt to wear them more often," he replied as he turned to look at himself in a nearby mirror, looking himself up and down, turning to see every angle he could. "I do look rather nice..."Secretly, he wondered if she would end up trying to get him to dress more hipster. When he was in his normal attire again, he led Hadley over to the women's department. He looked her up and down, trying to guess her size, and found a rather nice white summer dress. The material wasn't heavy, and it had lace down at the bottom, not gaudy, but just enough to look sweet. There was even a ribbon around the middle. "Try this on for size," he stated, handing the dress over to Hadley, then pointed behind her. "Dressing rooms are that way."While he waited, he looked down at the clothes in his arms, wondering if he really did look that amazing to Hadley or if she was just saying all that stuff to tease him. From the way it sounded, she thought he was really attractive, and that made Basil blush again, his fingers tightening in the fabric of the clothes he held. Did she feel the same way he did?

"Enthusiastic? Of course! Its nice to see you wearing new things dude." But now, it was her turn. The smile turned into a flat line and she followed behind him with a sigh, not excited in the least for what she had to put on.
She stuck out her tongue and made a gagged noise. "Ew a dress." She was never fond of them, too much showed and it was hard to run or sit in them. Thats why she rather wear shorts. "You're lucky I shaved!" Hadley let out a loud laugh to herself before shrugging off her shirt, mussing up her hair in the process, and throwing off her shirt. She slipped into the dress with ease, sloppily smoothed down the ribbon, then sighed at her own reflection. Dresses, in her opinion, didn't look right on her. With a quick brush of her hair she opened the dressing room door and frowned.
Weight shifted to one leg, arms crossed she spoke up. "Well, what do you think? Personally, its not my thing." She turned around in a circle trying to see herself in the reflection fully. |

When she stepped out of the dressing room, Basil's eyes lit up. Hadley said that she didn't think dresses suited her, but he definitely did. A soft smile spread across his face and he approached her slowly, looking her up and down. The ribbon looked a bit uneven, so he fixed that for her silently, then looked up to see her face. "I don't know what you're talking about... I think you look beautiful."It was all he honestly had to say on the matter. He wasn't going to argue with her, try to get her to agree with him or force her to see his point of view. She seemed the type to think her own way and as long as he knew what was true, that's all that mattered for the time being. Hopefully, if she didn't agree with him then, she'd eventually grow to understand what he saw. "I bet a little sunhat would look really cute against your hair color. Do you like pink?" he asked. "Or perhaps you're more of a pastel purple kind of girl?"
