Shopping. It was what every gal loved to do and whoever got dragged into the activity usually wished they hadn’t. She was no different of course, and she would subject the terror onto an unsuspecting friend with a smile on her face. If google maps was correct then she should have been standing in front of her lovely friends house. Hadley had never been to his actual residence, this was the first time and a spur of the moment sort of thing. She needed some company and he would do just fine.
Not hesitating in the slightest, she pounded her fist on the door. “Hey! Basil open up, its me~” It was only a half past nine in the morning, not too early not too late. It was also a Sunday, so she assumed he’d be home. Unless the libraries on Nova were open on Sundays or he had another job. She shifted her weight from leg to leg impatiently, nearly running in place like a boxer gearing up for a match.
“Come on, we have things to do, places to go! Open the dooooor!” She pounded once more, then put an ear to the door to hear any sign of him moving around. Hadley let herself lean on the door as she waited for him to let her in.

Ahh, Sundays were Basil's favorite days despite the fact that he didn't have work on those days. He loved work, don't get him wrong. However, he loved his days off as well. It was time for him to revitalize and lounge around the house in nothing but his bathrobe if he so desired, drink cupful after cupful of his favorite tea blends, and read all the books he could find to read. Not only that, but he was able to sleep in if he wanted to, which he did want to most days off. BANG BANG BANG
He flipped over in his sleep, frowning at the strange noise manifesting itself into Basil's dreams. It was a lovely dream, too. One where he was sharing tea with a lovely prince who happened to be chatting about this one time he slayed a three headed shark with his eyes closed and one hand tied behind his back. BANG BANG BANG
Suddenly, the prince stood up and pounded on the table, glaring at Basil and shouted, "OPEN UP! OPEN UP AND LET ME IN!" Of course Basil scooted his chair back in a fright, though glaring at the prince. How dare he force him to just open up like that. They'd just met and he hadn't even had a biscuit yet. BANG BANG BANG
And Basil was suddenly on the floor, looking up at his ceiling, wide-eyed as he tried to figure out how he ended up on his floor and what in bloody hell that constant banging was. With a growl, he fixed his robe and walked into the living room to inspect, only to find out that it was the front door. Great. That's all he needed. "What in the gods' names do you want at 9 o'clock in the morning?" the brunette asked as he opened the door in a hurry, only to see a familiar blue-headed girl tumble into the apartment. "...Hadley?"

A faint thud and then feet moving closer to the door could be heard. She pressed the side of her face closer to the door, trying to discern his footsteps from the random noises outside. Too absorbed in listening to realize she should move back from the door, Hadley stumbled forward into his apartment. She barely managed to catch herself, collapsing onto the floor and rolling over to clutch her chest.
"Whoa, that was scary-" Her eyes wandered over to him and took notice of his choice of clothing, or rather lack thereof. Despite the awkward silence that filled the room, she blurted out the one thing nagging at her mind. "You wear a robe to sleep?" Her eyes lingered for a second too long before she stood up and focused on his face.
As much as she wanted to, she resisted taking peeks. Even if he was covered up it was a natural reaction! At least, she thought it was. With much self control she maintained eye contact. "Aha, surprise?" This wasn't exactly how she planned to invite him out to go shopping. |

"Surprise, indeed."He perked a brow at her as she stumbled into the apartment, sat on the floor, google-eyed him, and finally stood up. Of course it was Hadley. That honestly wasn't all that much of a surprise, yet at the same time it was. Her question causes him to perk his eyebrow even higher than before and he smirked. "No, I normally sleep naked, but I threw on a robe to answer the door. By the way you were looking at me when you...stepped in... it seems like I picked the correct choice in action,"Basil replied as he closed the door behind her and walked into the kitchen. The first thing he would do was put on a kettle of water to boil--it was for his morning tea of course. Next, he'd turn and look to Hadley as he pulled out a frying pan and the case of eggs out of the fridge, along with the bacon. "I don't know what you're doing here, but since you are, and I'm awake, would you like breakfast? Have you even eaten breakfast?"the brunette asked as he placed a few strip of bacon into the heated pan. Sounds of sizzling and cracking filled the kitchen as the fat popped and fried in the grease.

Her cheeks tinted pink and her thoughts wandered a bit, which she really loathed. It was beyond awkward for her when her mind expanded on other's statements against her will. Scratching the back of her neck and clearing her throat, she mumbled to herself. "Oh... naked... thats normal of course yeah. Everyone does it, its whatever."
Trying to downplay her obvious "caught red-handed" look, she scoffed at him. "Well I couldn't help but look!" Shit, thats not how she wanted to phrase it. "Wait, I mean like... I was on the floor for godsake, where was I supposed to look?! Was I supposed to know you slept naked-- I mean would answer the door in a robe?!" Quickly rewording herself, but it was already revealed where her mind had lingered. She huffed and kicked off her shoes then sat at the kitchen table like an obedient child waiting for their parent to feed them. She gave up with trying to construct a real comeback, her game was off today.
There was her grumpy side again, irrationally grumpy at the fact that she was the one subject to subtle teasing. "No I haven't eaten." She was resting her cheek on her fist, making her words come out more of a grumble than anything else.
Hadley let the sound of sizzling bacon fill the room for a bit as she became lost in her thoughts. She clearly felt comfortable enough in his home to space out and glare a hole into the table. Her free hand traced circles on the table and she nearly forgot he was there. She snapped out of her reverie and with an odd tone, maybe one of melancholy or vexation, answered his statement.
"Well I'll tell you why I'm here. I am here because of shopping therapy! Me you and a wad of cash." She accompanied "shopping therapy" with jazz hands, as if it were some big event then pulled out her bills contained in a gold money clip. She waved it around before putting it back in her back pocket. "What'd say best friend?"
Despite her cheery way of phrasing things and her playful comments, something was obviously amiss. She was bad at hiding how she felt, at least completely. Her usual spark was only faintly there, instead a dull flicker was present. |

Before she sat down at the table, he did take in the fact that she became incredibly red once he pointed out her eye-boggling. He couldn't help but note how cute she looked embarrassed stammering and trying to cover her tracks as if she'd done something wrong. Basil noticed the strange tone in her voice as Hadley spoke to him from the kitchen table, but he waited until he'd finished cooking breakfast and sat down at the table with their plates of food before actually bringing it up. "You don't sound too good... Something on your mind?" He pushed a glass of orange juice Hadley's way, stirring in a few lumps of sugar into his cup of tea. "Oh, do you want tea?" Basil asked belatedly, looking at her as he asked. He didn't even think to ask her before he sat down. For some reason she seamed like the type not to drink tea regularly. Orange juice really did suit her more than a cup of tea with breakfast, but one wouldn't ever know unless they asked.

Her eyes were blank before she flopped backwards on the chair and sighed. "Something is always on my mind." It was general and dismissive, not wanting to get into what was bugging her. At least not yet. Venting to her friends always seemed like a burden to them and she hated it. She'd study their every movement and expression when she talked about her issues, always looking for the slightest bit of annoyance or discomfort and immediately feeling guilty if there was.
She shook her head and took a large gulp of juice, its tangy and refreshing taste satisfying her belly. "Nah tea is for grown ups and stuff. Besides orange juice is my favorite." It really was, one of her biggest cravings was usually orange juice. She absentmindedly placed a piece of bacon in her mouth and chewed it, immediately regretting now cooling it off first. "Hot! Hot, hot!" She fanned at her mouth, breathed in and out heavily, trying to cool off the now growing sensation of a burn. Despite that she went back to chewing it, just slower this time not wanting a repeat.
"So whats the verdict? You up for shopping or no?" Hadley looked at him straight in the eyes, an expression of "just say no and see what happens" evident. |

A soft chuckle pulled from his lips and he scooped up a forkful of eggs off his plate afterwards. "It is hot, you know." Of course she wasn't going to go into detail about what it was that was on her mind. He was dense to think that he was close enough to her for her to feel comfortable talking to him about something like that. No matter. He wasn't the type of person people willingly flocked to to spill their problems. And he's glad for it. Yes. Who would want to deal with the problems of someone else? Ha. He had the easy life... Though knowing Hadley was bothered with something still poked at his mind some. "Yeah, I'll go shopping with you. It's good to buy things for yourself sometimes... How much money do you have to spend, hm? What do you have in mind to buy or go?" Basil asked, taking a sip from his teacup. He wasn't big on going out when he didn't have to, but it had been a while since he'd really spent leisure time out around town. Perhaps he really should pamper himself a little.

"Yay~" She did a little fist pump before continuing to eat and gulp down her orange juice. "Yes yes, I'll buy lots of things for myself." Hadley had a list in her mind, all the ingredients listed out all the sales accounted for, and she would not let anything get in the way of it. "Hm, well I have this month's paycheck... kind of. Bills paid yada yada. Its enough for what I need though." Its not like she was planning on anything extravagant, her idea of pampering was pretty simple.
"I have a list in my head and this place is awesome ok. Its huge and has everything you could ever need, a good selection, good prices, samples even!" She let out a dreamy sigh, it was her favorite place aside from home she could live there honestly. "What time do you want to go? 'Cause I'm obviously ready when you are!" Her eyes lit up a bit, clearly excited for their little adventure. She began to eat again, this time in a hurried fashion, not wanting to waste a second. |

"Well, once we finish breakfast, I have to get dressed. Like I said, I don't have clothes on under here,"Basil responded, taking a casual sip of his tea after biting into a strip of bacon. He waited a few minutes to let that linger in the air before clearing it with something else. "So, I hope that you don't mind waiting for me to get dressed and all of that. I don't take long, so you won't have to worry about waiting a very long time, at least." He was grinning on the inside, yet on the outside he was rather calm and collected as he looked at Hadley. That didn't really clear the air of the previous statement and he knew it very well. When he finished his breakfast, he got up from the kitchen table and walked over to the sink to wash his dishes. Basil was the type to go ahead and wash his dishes once he was finished with them. What was the point of leaving them in the sink and letting them pile up? In the long run, that would just put more work on himself and he'd rather not have that. Wastes of energy definitely weren't something he liked. It's why he avoided people.

One moment she was scarfing down the last of her eggs and toast, the next she was choking on it. She pounded at her chest and stared wide-eyed at him for the umpteenth time that morning then yet again her thoughts wandered to the darker side. "Oh my fucking god..." It was murmured under her breath and she had nothing to really say to him except, "No, no please take your time."
Hadley placed her face in her hands, her ears noticeably more red than before. She waited a moment and fanned her face before awkwardly standing up and making her way over to the sink as well. She didn't know what to do in this situation, it had literally never happened before. Her movements were stiff and overly cautious, avoiding contact with him as much as she could in the relatively small sized kitchen. She placed the plate gingerly next to the sink and cleared her throat. "U-uhm. I can... could- w-will wash my own plate. Yes that." She nodded once, as if that was exactly how she meant to say it and fidgeted in her spot. |

Basil was being so very cruel and he knew it, too. Though, he honestly couldn't help himself. There was something about Hadley that brought out the teasing side of him and he just had to trip her up. Watching her stutter and fidget was very entertaining. With that in mind, he moved away from the sink, giving her space to wash her dishes properly, though when he moved, his arm brushed up against hers lightly. With the state she was in, Bssil knew that was all that needed to be done to get her to fumble again. "If you get bored, you can watch the telie or read one of my books by the loveseat. Just don't lose my place; I have them bookmarked," he informed her as he made his way to his bedroom. He stepped inside, then paused and turned around and leaned out the door to catch her attention again. "Think it'd be alright for me to have a quick shower before we go? I always take one when I wake up in the mornings, so it's kind of a part of my daily routine." That question was an honest one and not meant to cause her distress, though he was sure it would regardless. Basil lingered in his doorway as he waited for her answer, not wanting to make her wait longer than she had to wait, nor did he want to get in the way of any plans she'd already made before her getting there at his place.

Hadley nearly froze at his slight touch before shuffling forward to hover over the sink. Her hair fell forward, shielding her face like a curtain and she tried to quietly regain her composure. Her heart had definitely skipped a beat, and not in the love-dovey romantic way but more in the 'this guy is a fucking tease someone send help' way.
She nodded at his suggestions and lightly chuckled at him referring to the television as the 'telie'. She busied herself with scrubbing the plate clean, rinsing it then inspecting it for any remaining spots. She let herself do the same to whatever else was in the sink, feeling too awkward to sit on the couch with him still in the room.
His question seemed innocent enough but sent her mind racing and a cup flying out of her grasp. Hadley quickly caught it, glad it didn't shatter at her feet, and answered nearly out of breath. "S-sure! It's your house anyways, don't mind me." She let out a breathy chuckle as she leaned on the sink, elbows supporting her. 'Jesus fucking christ, this man I cannot believe him.' His mannerisms were far too casual and frustrating to no end. Slapping him upside his head or going on a rant seemed to be the appropriate thing to do but she couldn't get close enough to do that. Not right now, now until they were out of the house and the subject of their conversation was something suitable. |

His eyebrow rose when she almost dropped the cup. He wouldn't have been too happy with that if she'd happened to break it, though at the same time it wouldn't have been her fault, either. He was just happy she didn't make a mess. With her approval, Basil gave her a nod, smiling as he did, then disappeared within the bedroom, closing the door behind him. He remembered her mentioning him to take his time and she reminded him that it was his house, but he still didn't want to make her wait around on him. He knew all too well how awkward it could be to sit around in an unfamiliar environment. Though, with all honesty, Basil thought his home was rather welcoming. The house was always clean, minus the books that were scattered around with care; the temperature wasn't ever too hot or too cold; and there was a constant pleasant scent of cloves and sandalwood, most likely from the incense he liked to burn. Eventually he finished his shower, got dressed, and emerged from the bedroom all fresh and sleek. "Well I'm all ready to go when you are," he said rather plainly, plain being his normal tone of voice most of the time. "Now, where was it that you were wanting to go again?"

Unconsciously, she had been holding her breath and the closing of his door was signal enough to let it out. Hadley leaned against the counter for a few seconds longer before rinsing and drying the remaining dishes. When that was squared away, she finally examined the house, which she found to be nice and cozy.
She made her way over to the couch and fumbled with the remote, finally getting the T.V. turned on to a random channel. She stared at the screen as her thoughts focused on how… strange the situation was. First time she had visited his house and she had already gotten breakfast, did the dishes herself, and he was taking a shower. Lost in thought and let her body fall on its side with a soft thud. The couch cushions were cozy and she found herself in a nap like state.
Soon Hadley found herself jolting upright and fixing her mussed up hair when his voice reached her ears. “Wha-? Oh, yeah, right. Sorry I uh… dozed off it seems.” She would have been more embarrassed if she hadn’t already embarrassed herself earlier. Hadley rose to her feet, wobbling slightly and stretching her back. She had fallen asleep on one side, so she probably looked like a mess with a slightly red cheek, indents on her forehead from the edge of the couch, her hair sticking up in ways it wasn’t meant to.
“Ah… well the store?” She had said it earlier, maybe the store meant something else to him but it was pretty clear to her. She let herself out in a slight daze, coming down from the dizziness of her nap then made her way to the car. She unlocked it and slide into the driver’s seat. Her list on her dashboard reminded her that she had indeed written it down and wouldn’t need to rely on her memory. For her it was a good thing, for him it was probably a sign that Hadley had never actually gone therapy shopping. And quite obviously ate her feelings.
