Suddenly, an awkward ringtone pervaded the scene. Wanda didn't realize it was coming from her pocket until after a few looks around, and then, a deep scarlet blush press over her cold cheeks. She pulled out her cell singing in expletives, jamming buttons to make it stop. Wanda was twice as embarrassed as she was puzzled because she hadn't used that ring tone since that prank on Arlo two years ago. "Umm, excuse me," she managed, jamming buttons down to ignore the call and turn off the music. She didn't really know how to explain it to Isobel's relatives, or even Isobel, so she just grinned nervously and hoped they'd assume its a joke.

| She didn't want a fuss to be made about her. All she wanted to do was lie here, really. If the populace could be so kind as to step around her, she'd really appreciate that. The ground wasn't so bad. Cold, yes. Rough, yes. But apart from that, the sidewalk wasn't as terrible to lie on as everyone made it out to be. There was that minor matter of the blood trickling from her chin, but eh. Who cared about that, really?
Her boss did, apparently. This was not a situation where Zola would be able to get away with saying nothing. "I can move." She replied to her anxious employer. "I can move, but I don't want to." Zola didn't bother to turn her head so that she could squint up at Aiden and Tiena, but instead just kept her eyes fixed on the concrete in front of her face. She'd get up eventually. There was nothing to worry about here.
"Chin's bleeding." She dully replied to Tiena's worried question. "Doesn't matter though. Just a scrape. Don't bother. 'M just gonna lie here for a bit. S'not too bad down here."

fuck this, fuck that, fuck everything | If only August knew, but Aeron just glared down at him. "Don't drink if you can't hold your liquor, that's my advice to you." But with a snort at part of August's rambling he continued. "I can only imagine how well you walking yourself over here would've gone." He wasn't in the mood for a holier than thou contest with this... Whatever it was, besides that was a game he always won.
He shrugged August off of him now. His part of the job was done, and at this point he just wanted to go sit and grab a bite to eat before reopening the store for a few more hours. It was difficult, he thought, ignoring what August had just said. It began to pick in the back of his head. He'd love some control, in all honesty. Over so many things. But life wasn't fair. It wasn't fair at all, but you got used to it as you got older. As things got shittier.
He turned to walk away when a creaking noise stopped him. Turning his head he noticed the display shelf next to him leaning forward. Oh god fucking damnit, he thought as he put his arms outward to try and catch it. But of course it was heavier than he would've guessed. With a cracking sound he was on the ground underneath it, a sharp pain in his right arm. It had bent in ways it shouldn't. His head was turned just enough to have the display not rest on his face. He tried to push the display off of him, but moving his right arm nearly brought tears to his eyes. This was bullshit.
Wonderful. Downright fucking wonderful. |

Zola Boss (as the lady had been dubbed in Aiden's mind) was content to take charge of the situation. And then some. She was like some super rabid squirrel/monkey operating on a sugar high and a running on an IV of Red Bull- having made the transition from a seemingly pleasant innkeeper in the few seconds after Zola fell. Really how could anybody be that active?
"Easy ma'am." Aiden said soothingly "No need to panic right? Zola just fell and is too much of a lazy bum to get back up. Right Zola?"
Thankfully Zola decided to speak up and save her friend's hide from her boss, confirming that she was fine and that yes, she was just too lazy to move.
"See? Zola's all hale and hearty. She'll be on her feet as soon as the snow piles up and it gets too cold for comfort."
Really what was the worry anyway? Zola herself didn't say it was anything worse than a simply scrape. Just press some snow to it to stop the bleeding...or something. No need to send him rushing all over the place for enough stuff to carry out an impromptu appendicitis.

Before she could go on, a blaring ringtone interrupted things. She was still absently pulling a few napkins from her purse, dabbing at the stain on her blouse while she tried to pin where the crude music was coming from.
Wanda dug around her pockets to cut off the ring tone, and Isobel pursed her lips, glancing around the circle they stood in, suddenly in tense silence.
She gave an ambivalent nod. "It's really been a pleasure, but we'd best be off." Her eyes flickered up to the falling snow. "I'm not dressed for this weather, I'm afraid." she sounded faintly bemused, drifting off and casting a look to Wanda.

OH SHE KNOWS WHAT I THINK ABOUT tagged, @will , @isobel , @wanda "Nice to meet you!" the blonde replied, offering a wave to Wanda before quickly butting in with an "Ex sister in law." After all she didn't want anyone thinking they were still together and it would probably complicate matters if she didn't know, right? Taking a sip of her tea, Courtney glanced at William when he said that Damien was the lame brother, just thankful that her relationship with her own brother was a lot better than theirs. Damien wasn't that bad anyway ... he just owed her a substantial amount of money and that was where her problem with him lay.
"Hey watch out!" the blonde shouted, moving her cup out of the way of William's dramatics, scorching the side of her hand slightly on the warm liquid before rolling her eyes at the man. If they were back in England there would be floods and all sorts, so who really cared about a little bit of snow? "Then go buy a coat if it's bothering you that much." Courtney muttered under her breath, honestly it was winter what did he expect? It was going to be a little colder.
The MP was about to continue with that she hadn't come to follow William, that she was here strictly on business but ... what on earth was that song? The older woman's lips pursed together, body shaking slightly as she tried to stop herself. She was supposed to be a respectable politician dammit, this wasn't supposed to be that funny.
Apparently it was Isobel's girlfriend's ringtone, something that she didn't seem all that proud of having but something Courtney found hilarious, putting a hand over her mouth to prevent her histerical laughter before coughing. "All right, I'll see you sometime soon I presume?" the blonde asked, it'd be nice to see them again after all. "Say goodbye to Wanda for me, she looks a little busy at the moment and I wouldn't want to intrude on her phone call." Also if she went anywhere near the poor thing she'd probably start laughing again and that would be just rude.

August, still now surprisingly recovered and less melodramatic, was buying ehatever headache releif they had by the counter. He was absentmindedly nodding to whatever Aeron was saying with "You are sooooooo right" and "What was I thinking, mhmm" when there was a tremendous crash that startled August into jumping back like a cat.
And then sent him into a horri le laughing fit. He tried to supress it, but soon he was barely able to breathe. He made a half assed attempted to get over to Aeron to maybe help, but he couldn't stop giggling.
Snicker. "Hey... hey do you need help up?" Snicker. "I honestly can't tell if you're just laying in despair or what cause that shit was golden."

| Yes, she was indeed a lazy bum. And she was okay with that. "No, I won't." She replied to Aiden's confident remark that she would soon move. "I like it down here. 'M staying." She couldn't feel the wind as much down here, and really, the wind was the worst part of the cold.
She doubted she'd end up buried under a ton of snow. In her experience, winters on Nova Athenis were never that extreme. A few white flakes would fall from the sky, enough to get all the kids excited, and then it would stop. Zola had nothing to worry about.

Zola seemed intent on throwing him out for the wolves- or her overanxious boss as the case was. Any minute now some other passerby was going to stop and ask after her prone form and knowing his luck Aiden would probably be accused of trying to murder her through negligence- he wasn't that sure whether if that could be used in court, but he sure as hell wasn't going to stick around to find out.
"You know what; I'll go see about that first aid after all." well uh, actually not really. Zola was clearly fine and being her normal self, Aiden was just going to slip out quietly thank you very much.
Life however seemed to have other plans for him. His next step had him slipping on a small patch of snow and spilling all his shopping all over the street. His shopping of perishable food items. That there was a prime reason why Nova Athens shouldn't have any snowfall. For a minute Aiden thought of trying to save what could be saved, but instead decided to salvage some dignity and walk off. Okay he was just too lazy to go around picking everything up and tote it around in his arms. But even his tactical retreat was turned into a rout for as soon as he turned around he tripped in a quite undignified manner and fell flat on his back. Perhaps he should have gotten up and left now, but Zola seemed to have a good idea after all- he preferred to just sit here for a while, collect his bearings and all. Waiting until his damnable luck stopped acting so whimsical would be nice too.

This was utter bullshit. Aeron groaned as August stood over him laughing. Oh yes, this was completely hilarious. This is what he got, he thought, for being nice to this asshole. A broken arm and laughed at. "Yes you god damned fucking moron." he snarled, the shelf was still laying on top of him. He pushed at it with one arm but it wasn't quite enough.
The cashier had wandered over in a panic, she sounded like she was going to fall over from stress. Oh god why did this happen, she said, I just started working here. Aeron knew all too well how this could backfire on her, and for a split second felt bad. But then again here he was. Right now, as if there was any time, wasn't the time for sympathy.
All he knew was that he was going to fucking strangle that little shit.

you are the only you TILL NOW AND FROM NOW ON TOO - ZOLA BIRDSHELL & @bk201 - glad you didn't move on without me thnxs "It is not fine!" Tiena began shaking, not out of anger at Miss Zola's friend or at her own helplessness for not having the supplies she needed right now. It was partly due to the 'yes' of the blood and partly due to her getting worked up. She got stressed over simple things. Things that did not need to be stressed over. All that cheerfulness, bright jolly Christmas fun-time had vanished to be replaced with a basket case full of worry. She didn't yell at Aiden. It was more of a helpless cry. "a cut, any cut, can be deadly. It is a gateway to disease, to infection. The ground is dirty from everyone's feet. Dirt can easily pass into Miss Zola's wound. If we do not clean and dress it properly, she could get sick." Her hands reached out several times to try and turn her employee over, but she was scared of seeing the blood. She'd just pass out. The woman ignored Miss Zola and her friend's banter for the most part, until the man decided to go and get what had been requested. She sighed, turning back to the injured young lady when a whomp! startled her.
Tea just stared from the food to the two people. One on their face and one on their back. She had more tact than to laugh at their misfortune. Instead she wondered how this could come to be. The ice formed... that quickly? She remembered her own falls, but it hadn't felt like she slipped on anything. More like being pushed. Slowly, she got up from Miss Zola's side and ran into the pharmacy. Her luck seemed to be going better than most, for no more obstacles hindered her. So far. She was so focused on her own problems - the two people potentially injured outside - that she didn't notice the other people inside until one spoke up. The clerk was fussing about something and she went over to see. She recognized August immediately. She had given him a job at her inn. The second human being was under a shelf, but she knew the man somewhat by passing. Not formally though. "Oh my goodness! August, please help that poor man! I-I have to help the others!"
She had no prior knowledge of what had happened between the two men, but she was sure her employee would help out. She was sure of it! Flashing August a pleading look from her violet eyes, Tiena grabbed some therapeutic pillows, slamming down money on the counter before exiting. She added to the clerk to call an ambulance. The man under the shelf looked like he had broken something.
Returning to Miss Zola and her friend, she thrust the pillows at them. "Sir, this will help your back. Miss Zola, here... Use this. It should take the sting off your face. I-I have tissues inside if the b-b-bleeding is not stopping." She refused to leave either of them.

| Zola's eyes were just drifting shut when she felt a sudden pressure on her back. It didn't take longer than a moment for the pressure to grow worse. It felt an awful lot like someone...was stepping on her? Just when the pressure turned to pain, it disappeared completely. Twisting her head, Zola glanced down at her back.
Yes. That was definitely a shoe print.
Now she knew why people didn't lie down on sidewalks. Because some people were apparently blind.
Grudgingly, she lifted herself up from the ground into a sitting position, ignoring the blood dripping from her chin to her leggings. This was why she didn't go where people went. Because people didn't look where they were walking and stepped on innocent strangers just trying to get comfy.
