That shimmering entity drifting through the crowd, causing disturbances to those it touched, extended to the sky, where downy clouds scudded by. It drew them together and the sky darkened. A cold wind whisked through the street. A snowflake fell, then another, and another. They soon came down in torrents, sticking to the ground and in people’s hair. The entity watched, pleased with its work. But it wasn’t done yet.
The following participants have had numbers drawn: Aaron (8), Courtney (4), Zola (2), Tiena (10), August (1), Aiden (1), Wanda (10), Isobel (2), and William (9). Make sure your replies are affected by your rolls. Be creative!

A party? Well it might be fun, but while Aiden was good with people and generally friendly- he wasn't a social butterfly, after all that would take too much effort.
"I'll try my best to make it." Aiden answered it, trying not to commit himself for the future. Or was the party right now? Might make a good respite from all the shopping.
Thoughts of shopping though were soon driven out of his mind by the sight of snow falling from the sky. Snow? In Nova Athens? How rare...and troublesome- Aiden wasn't really a big fan of low temperatures. On top of that it was starting to come down fast too.
Aiden opened his mouth to comment on the weather- probably to get a monosyllabic reply from Zola- only to inhale a snowflake the wrong way. He spluttered for a bit before settling down, but the cough had tickled his nose a bit. He scrunched up his freckled nose, rubbed it a bit, however the itch refused to die down. Finally a monumental sneeze came out- loud enough to drown out the noises of the street for a moment.
Now if the psychologist had been in a movie or had cool comic book powers, something awesome might have happened- say blowing the clothes off everybody in a fifty meter radius. However, Aiden being completely mundane- it just caused his eggnog to splatter and soak his shirt.
"Peachy." he remarked dryly.

tacky Christmas lights are a sin | This wasn't surprising, he thought. Not even in the slightest. The man uncomfortably draped around him, in honesty Aeron was tempted to just carry him there and dump him on the ground. But he was kind of cute, like a kitten. Walking out the front of the store, he turned with his free side and locked the door behind him. How did someone get so hungover? He kept questioning this as the man clung to his side. ...He was getting needier by the second.
"I am not holding your hand." he said flatly. This was a favor, a little karmic boost if anything at all. He caught a glimpse of the same blonde woman he'd seen earlier, the one who hadn't yelled. A few seconds later the bag she'd been holding snapped and dropped everything to the ground in a heap. With a small snort he turned his eyes away again. Called it. he thought, stepping into the street.
He could've sworn his heart had stopped. A horn blared and two inches from him a car roared past. With a small stagger backwards he tried to catch his breath. Merry Christmas, mom! I got hit by a car! he thought. That would've been a lovely present for his mother wouldn't it? A coffin with your son inside, pretty red bow and all! Maybe that would set her head on straight, maybe he should've taken the next step anyway. Now wasn't the time to get lost in his head. With a shaken step he continued to guide the man across the street.
Hopefully he'd barely registered that Aeron had almost gotten them both killed.

William lunged forward suddenly and grabbed Isobel up by an arm until she was upright, then flicked off the imaginary dust off her shoulders and smiled eerily.
"I think something's trying to get you to stay with me! I mean, it is Christmas after all. We should all spend time together!" William clapped, headache gone suddenly but not questioning it. There was a lot of mystery in the world, none in which William had really made progress in answering.
"I am her brother, Miss Wanda!" Patting Wanda's fake stomach with a strange kind of glee, he smiled long enough for it to be a relief when he frowned at the voice calling his name.
He turned around once more, and was about to respond to the blonde woman who knew his name when white stuff started to drift down and he was knocked slightly by the wind. Fuckin' wind.
Swiping at his head, he peered at the white snow on his hand.
"What the fuck is this?" He blurted with a deep frown. He wasn't cold, then it mustn't be under 0 degrees. Logic was being tested, he realised.

Giggled as her belly was patted. Isobel's brother was adorable. Like that eccentric professor, Mr. Hiddleton, who had a big personality and easy mouth. She liked that easiness in people.
Wanda was fine with William tagging along. One more soul to enlighten with rich delights and he could only make the time more interesting. But Wanda knew the saying well: three's a crowd. There would be less freedom and less intimacy with a brother tagging along. The brunette offered a looked to Isobel, pushing up her glasses to hide her shrug that said 'i don't mind'. Another woman ushered into their circle, poshly done-up and with a professional, regal aura.
"You don't like snow?" she asked Isobel's brother as he frowned at the flake in his hand.
But with the arrival of the blond lady, and this scenario where everyone knew everyone except for Wanda who only knew Isobel, things had become mildly awkward. She rocked on her heels in the Santa Costume, watching how everyone interacted and feeling a little special that she could peer into another piece of Isobel's life. Still, she wasn't exactly a part of things...

August was about to start whining and giving Aeron crocodile tears about not holding his hand, but the cascade of events that surrounded the near-miss car accident overwhelmed his senses. He'd hardly registered they'd gone outside, except for the strange biting chill that seemed to accompany snow. August went rigid, sucking in a sharp breath from the now dry air and everything seemed to be spinning. Maybe he could hold it together- The jolt backwards was the hair that broke the camels back. August retched and quickly brought a hand to his mouth, doubling over as he spilled his lunch onto the curb. His head was flushed with the near fever that came right before puking, something he hated and made him gag all over again. Dammit. Dammit dammit dammit. August tried to say something, anything, but his throat felt like battery acid had been poured down it. He could only mentally kick himself in the balls over mortifying himself like that.

Post by ZOLA BIRDSHELL on Dec 23, 2013 0:30:17 GMT
| A bit of white fluttered down from the sky in front of Zola. Puzzled, she slowly turned her head upwards. Was that...snow? Yeah, that was definitely snow. Well. This was surprising. Nova Athenis wasn't exactly renowned for its wintry weather. Nice as it was to think that they might get a white Christmas on the island this year, Zola didn't exactly start jumping for joy at the sight of the snowflakes. One, because jumping required moving. And two, because while it wasn't likely that they would be getting a lot of snow, the weather might defy all their expectations and dump a ton on them. And who would be expected to shovel it all off the driveway? Zola. Who would be the one slipping on ice on the ground as she did so? Zola.
One snowflake drifted down onto her eyelash. Hopefully this wasn't the kind of snow that stuck her eyelids together. She looked back down at the sound of Aiden's sneeze. "Gross." She remarked in her monotone. She was about to go on and tell him that his germs better not have landed on her, only to feel someone push by her as they rushed by. Eyes widening ever so slightly in surprise, Zola tilted and then fell. She hit the pavement with a solid smack. If her hands hadn't been stuffed in her pockets, she might have been able to use them to break the fall. As it was, she scraped her chin.
Rather than getting up or freaking out about her freshly injured face, Zola just remained lying there, facefirst on the sidewalk. It actually wasn't too bad down here. heyyyyo |

OH SHE KNOWS WHAT I THINK ABOUT tagged, @will , @isobel , @wanda "Are you sure you aren't a saint?" Courtney replied with a smile, gratefully taking the bag and the tea from the server, handing her the money for the tea in exchange. "Thank you, you've been so helpful." the blonde continued, waving as she made her way round to the inn to get it brewed up.
It didn't take long, thank God, after all she was anxious she wouldn't be able to catch up with William and Isobel if it took a long time. However it was quickly placed in a transportable cup, scalding her hands slightly through her gloves but she didn't really care. She just wanted to catch up with her former siblings in law.
"That would be snow William, I'm sure you've seen it before." Courtney responded with a smile, glancing at the other woman Isobel was with, not recognizing her ... she'd just wait for some sort of introduction. "It's good to see you both, are you visiting Damien?" After all he was their brother, it would be a logical to assume they might spend Christmas with him. Not likely, but not out of the realms of possibility. CODED BY DUCKIE OF GS

Isobel had barely time to realize she was falling before a hand reached out to steady her, setting her back onto her feet. She gave William a terse smile in thanks. She nodded along when he announced himself as her brother - there was no skirting around it now. Isobel raised a brow at Wanda, who didn't seem bothered. Maybe she found William's eccentricity charming.
Before she could add anything, Courtney's presence had caught up with her calling. The woman swept into their odd circle, a cup in hand and a smile on her face.
"Hello Courtney." She said dutifully. "This is Wanda, my girlfriend." Introducing them to each other felt surreal, as unlikely as this situation seemed, that they'd all run into each other like this.
She could feel Wanda rocking back and forth beside her, probably confused and bored by this sudden reunion. Isobel cast a look her way, head tilting pointedly, silently asking if she wanted to leave. "This is Courtney, my sister-in law." Ex sister in law, but she didn't want to complicate it any more. "And Damien is my other brother." She added in explanation. She didn't think she'd ever told her girlfriend anything about her family - it hadn't seemed worth mention, only in passing.
"No, we've just run into each other by coincidence." Isobel couldn't remember the last time she'd spent Christmas with her brothers - it hadn't been for a long time, and it probably wouldn't happen again any time soon.
Somewhere during the conversation, snow had started to flutter down from the sky that had been cloudless moments ago. It didn't seem cold enough for snow.
Despite that, there were flakes fluttering down, settling cold on Isobel's hair and shoulders, and as she reached up to brush them off, gaze trained absently upwards, she felt herself jostled by a passerby, and then a burning heat down the front of her shirt - something hot and sticky soaked through the fabric, and she bit her lip to keep back a curse - she wasn't normally one to swear. Only a wordless hiss found its way from her as she dug into her purse for something to clean herself up with.

"Damien is what they call the 'lame' brother, in the American speak." William cut in. He liked the look of Wanda, she looked like a sweet, loving, acceptable girl. He wouldn't even mind if she married Isobel. Wouldn't be that bad, actually.
He stepped backwards to accommodate Courtney, but to be honest he'd rather not speak to her, because he'd rather pretend he didn't know who that money grabbing soppy blonde bimbo was.
William sighed dramatically.
"Did you know why I chose to migrate here, before you annoying sods minus Wanda who looks like a local came here following my luscious tail?" William folded his arms, voice oddly serious than his usually lighthearted, silly tone.
"Nova Athenis is practically best friends forever with the equator. The climate is warm here. Most of the time, annoyingly so. It should not snow. See, if everyone accepted everything civilisation will go nowhere. Plus, my shirt's not the right shirt for this god damn weather!" As if to shake the serious spell, he started shaking his fist to the sky.

tacky Christmas lights are a sin | There it goes, he thought. Still trying to calm his breathing, August broke away from him. He'd been in similar situations before, sure, but it wasn't as embarrassing with Marlene carrying him home. But with a stranger? It must've been mortifying, but Aeron didn't really care either way at this point. Aeron's hand drifted to his back and gently rubbed him just a bit before straightening back up. "You should've stayed in bed." he sighed.
He looked up as a flake landed on his nose, and he smiled. For god knows what reason it was snowing. Not a light flurry, but enough to eventually coat the entire city. Enough for him to smile and say his city was his favourite when it snowed. (Cliche, of course. But he'd been wanting it for awhile now.) In another place, at another hour even, he'd possibly be taking this other guy home with him. He allowed himself to think on it for a moment before going back to being annoyed with him.
Pushing open the little pharmacy's door, he tried to move August as little as possible. How mortified would someone be if they threw up inside of a store as well? Aeron would find it well deserved, he thought. Get drunk, stay inside, and deal with it on your own. Or, if not on your own, someone who cared enough. But here he stood, a stranger helping this man into the store. "And I thought I was bad, you're a wreck." he said, flatly again.

Zola was being mean to him so divine retribution decided to spare Aiden the trouble and give Zola the old one two- laying Ms. Birdshell out for the count. "Ouch." Aiden remarked, his tone still dry but with a tinge if sympathy creeping through.
He was about to help, but then his brain caught up to him. He had seen enough Sunday morning cartoons to tell that any attempt to help would lay him out in a comedic manner next to his old friend. No thank you, it was more effort than it was worth and Zola could hardly complain with her own attitude as it was.
The easiest way would be... Aiden turned towards Zola's boss, eyes big and obviously pleading for help. He gestured to his unhygienic hands and then to Zola's prone form in a mute plea for aid.

Shit shit shiiiiit why did he just throw up? Why? What did he ever do to deserve this? August let himself to helped into the pharmacy miserably, mostly hanging there like a limp puppet and groaning. It was just the icing on the shittiest cake in the world. And now he was just actually upset and wished he had just stayed in bed where at least only his head hurt, and not his pride. "Just leave me here to dieee," August whined, letting his head flop down and his glasses clatter to the floor, but straightened up a bit when he processed the last thing Aeron said. August looked rather offended, though still had a bit of puke on his chin so it was not very intimidating. "Even if I'm a wreck, its your fault for nearly killing me by running into a car," August sneered, seeming to forget why Aeron even went to cross the street and about really anything else that happened, "That was really careless. I think you need to get control over your life."

She waved off the older woman's words. It was the season for being helpful, wasn't it? Of course the shop she was volunteering for was trying to move stock, but she wasn't interested in just that. If you were proper to the customers, they would come back and expect the same treatment. People found it too concerning during the seasons. Long lines, impatience and name calling... She had not seen any of that today. For that she was thankful. Pocketing the cash from her sale into the fold of her apron, Tiena waved the woman off and turned her attention to Miss Zola and Mister... well, she did not know his name. It was only then that she started to realize the snow. Things could escape her notice now and again. She was so used to the island's natural order that she simply saw this unnatural occurrence as a speck of light upon her imagination. Perhaps she didn't want to see it at all, for all her inner wonder. It was unnatural. Strange she thought, staring up at the sky with a small frown.
While she was wondering if the snow would pass, or if it would simply melt due to Nova Athenis' tropical weather, Tea heard a spectacular whump! that shook her from her thoughts. She started like a rabbit caught in the headlights, eyes wide and body shaking. Goodness, this was an eventful day! But... no. Noooo. She almost cried. Cried. As in, beating her fists against her side like a little child, crying. She could handle herself getting hurt. It happened all the time. She'd cut herself on a knife or burn her hand on the fryer... Even slipping and falling down a few steps after she moped wasn't so bad. It came with the job. But no. Nobody screws with her staff. They are in her care. They are the delicate little bundles of joy that she holds close to her heart. If they break, she breaks.
"Do not just stand there!" Tea snapped at Miss Zola's friend as he, yes, just stood there and relied on her to do all the work for him. This was his friend! He should be helping, not sitting around like he had his foot in his mouth. She bent down, taking off her apron in the process. Miss Zola could have fractured something. She fell face first, but that did not mean she couldn't have hit a part of her vital head. "go to the pharmacy. Ask them for towels, soaked in hot water. Then tell them we need gauze and rubbing alcohol. Tell them to send the bill to the Inn on Main Street. Miss Zola... can you move? Are you bleeding anywhere?"
Her skin turned to ash, hoping that wasn't going to be a 'yes'. She hated blood.
