Sweat lingered on his face mixed with the grit and grime of oil and dust. The afternoon breeze blowing through the opened garage door felt great against his heated body as he worked, bent over the front of a car, hood up, and changed spark plugs. Afterwards, he would check the oil, refill wiper fluid, and rotate the tires. It was bullshit work, something that a ten year old could do. Honestly, he couldn't stand people who didn't know how to do those types of things on their own, the chores so easy to do. If they couldn't do something as simple as refill wiper fluid, then they shouldn't be allowed to own a car in the first place. All you did was open a cap. How hard was that? But hey, he was getting paid for it and couldn't really complain all that much. His favorite things to do were reconstruction projects. Nothing like rebuilding an engine.

Star doesn't come down to the south very often. Whenever she comes down, it's to check out the red light district if anything. She's never really checked out the area, which is actually what she's doing today.
She's sort of half dazed as she walks around, not really paying attention to anything specific, but paying attention to everything in general.
Maybe that's how she ends up in an unfamiliar shop. With the parts she can see, she assumes it's a garage of some sort and it piques her interests, she's never been knowledgeable about cars so she lifts her camera so she can gaze through the viewfinder and starts snapping away pictures.
She's pretty impressed with the store, not something she'd think to see down here. It's pretty cool.

At first he doesn't hear the sounds of the camera, the sounds of power tools too loud and echoing inside the metal building, reverberating off the cars and rims and other metallic objects. However, when he stopped to wipe his forehead free from sweat, his ears caught the subtle clicks behind him. Rocky made a face and turned around, confused as he tried to find the strange sound he'd never heard in the garage before and when his eyes landed on the girl behind the camera, he froze up and frowned, pulling his towel up and holding it over his nose and mouth as he walked his way over to the girl. "What're you doin'? Don't just take pictures with me in 'em like that," the brunette grumbled as he started to move his hand in front of the lens, successfully blocking her view. He pulled the cloth away from his mouth to more properly speak now that the lens was blocked, though he was still frowning. "I don't mean to be rude or anythin'; I just don't like my picture bein' taken without my permission.."ooc: No, no it's fine! Though do you want me to switch to present tense? I can if you'd like. :>

It's occurred to Star that maybe people don't appreciate her randomly snapping pictures of them, but she's always figured as long as she doesn't get caught there won't be a problem and her being caught record has been flawless.
Until now of course. He's a lot more calm than she thought someone catching her would be. It's almost surprising.
"What're you doin'? Don't just take pictures with me in 'em like that,"
Star only pulls herself away from her camera when he puts a hand against her lens.
That is a big no no to her, and now she needs to check her lens, and if it's dirty she'll need to clean it. Though, she doesn't have anything to clean it with - and no, she's not going to clean it with her shirt.
That means no more pictures if it's dirty, fuck.
"I don't mean to be rude or anythin'; I just don't like my picture bein' taken without my permission."
Star puts on a sheepish grin, "Na, you're in the right, probably. I should've asked before snapping away."
"It's pretty cool in here though," She says with a wandering eye. "I got sidetracked. Plus, it's not too often I get caught taking pictures so I didn't think about it."
"You own the place?"

Oh gosh, what a cute grin she had. Rocky was sure he felt his heart flutter. How could he stay upset at such a sweet face as that? He pulled his hand away from the lens and frowned just a little when she looked distressed at the state of her lens. From what he could tell, he did manage to get a little bit of oil on it from the tips of his fingers. "Ah... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get it dirty like that..." He took his towel and held it out for her to use. "Maybe this'll help?"His frown quickly faded and transformed into a broad grin when she started to compliment the shop. Working in the garage was his life. It's all he had. If he lost his job there, he wouldn't have anything. So to have her compliment it like she did really meant a lot to him. "Me? Own the place?"he answered, though with more questions, and laughed a bit afterwards. "Naw, I don't own it, but I'm here enough of the time that I might a well be a co-owner. When I'm not hittin' up the bars or goofin' off with my buds, I'm here at the garage."

"Ah... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get it dirty like that..."
Star's eye from whatever she was looking at, to her camera. She holds it up and so she can see the screen and lo' and behold, there a smudge on the screen. She exhales, hoping to exhale her anger with the breath.
"Maybe this'll help?"
Star shakes her head as she takes out the cap for her lens and puts it back on before any more damage is done.
"Na, I don't use anything but my cleaning kit on my camera, but thanks for the offer." She says.
"Me? Own the place."
Star guesses that means he doesn't own the place, especially by his laugh.
"Naw, I don't own it, but I'm here enough of the time that I might a well be a co-owner. When I'm not hittin' up the bars or goofin' off with my buds, I'm here at the garage."
Star smiles, "You sound pretty dedicated to this place."
She pauses to think about what he's just said to give her reply a little more thought.
"Actually, you sound a lot like me with art," She says. "Oh, by the way I'm Star." LAIKA OF GS!

He smiled sheepishly when she rejected the towel and explained why. "Heh...I don't know a thing about cameras. I tend t'use those disposable ones, myself." He rose up his hands and mimicked using a camera. He was kidding, of course. He knew how to use a simple digital camera, though he did't own one at the time. "Rocky," he replied. "Pleasure to meet you. What're yo doing out here anyway? You live around here or something? It isn't everyday we get photographers wanting to take our pictures."

"Heh...I don't know a thing about cameras. I tend t'use those disposable ones, myself."
"I would too, if they gave the kind of quality digital cameras do." Star says with a little laugh.
It was true, disposable cameras are great for on-the-go one time clickers, but Star isn't that type of girl. She isn't into fifty pictures and then toss, that isn't the kind of life she lives. Though she probably could if she wanted to. The bank would never say no to her.
"Rocky, pleasure to meet you."
"Pleasure to meet you Rocky." She says with a smile.
"What're yo doing out here anyway? You live around here or something? It isn't everyday we get photographers wanting to take our pictures."
Star shakes her head, "Na, I'm not from around here."
"I came down for a visit, see the sites, meet the people, y'know, that kinda shit? It's pretty interesting down here." She says, while letting her eyes roam the store once again. "What are you working on in here anyway? Anything big?"

His eyebrow perked at her response. Who would come down to South Nova just to see the sights? There weren't really all that many sights to be seen, unless you were into the shady kind of sights, which she didn't seem to be. He glanced around the garage and then back towards the car he was working on before she started clicking that camera of hers. "Nah, nothin' big right now. Just fixin' spark plugs. I was about to rotate the tires when I saw you.It wasn't a big deal; he wasn't mad that she'd interrupted his work. Hell, he probably needed the break, anyway. He pulled out his cigarettes and lit one, blowing the smoke away from Star, not wanting to blow it in her face or anything, in case she didn't like it. Who'd like a face full of smoke, anyway? "So, you likin' the sights? The people?"

"Nah, nothin' big right now. Just fixin' spark plugs. I was about to rotate the tires when I saw you."Star doesn't know cars, she knows people say it's a good idea to have some sort of idea of how cars work, but she's not one of those people. She doesn't even bother to pretend like she knows what he's talking about. Cars are for lamers. The only time she gets in a car is if she's forced to, or she's too drunk to walk home. Either way, Star's pretty sure her license expired a while ago, and she hasn't felt motivated to get it renewed. Star watches him as he takes out a cigarette and lights it. Cigarettes have never been something she's interested in, but she's tried them a few times. She prefers to keep her distance and just watch people smoke. There is something about cigarettes that she finds artistic, then again, she finds almost anything artistic. "So, you likin' the sights? The people?"
"The area is fucking rad, everything seems so much more, alive? Than how it looks at night, it also feels a lot friendlier in a sense." She says as a cheeky grin spreads across her face. "I'll tell you about the people when I've met more, but so far, they're pretty awesome.""You're around here a lot right? Got an suggestions for daytime hangouts?" Rocky let out a laugh, smoke drifting out of his mouth and catching on the wind blowing gently. "Yeah, I get ya, about the whole feelin' more alive thing. Those guys up on the northern part of the island are so busy with their money they dunno how to have a /real/ good time," he said with a nod right on the word "real," putting more emphasis on the word. Rocky took another long drag off his cigarette as he thought of places to go during the day. He wasn't all that aware of things to do during the day minus the default stuff. "Well, I'm sure there's an arcade somewhere, there's the theatre, the bar might be open around the afternoon time, but it's more of a night feature. Hell, when I get bored enough, I just go drivin'. Nothin' can beat that~" he purred, taking another puff.

"Yeah, I get ya, about the whole feelin' more alive thing. Those guys up on the northern part of the island are so busy with their money they dunno how to have a /real/ good time."Star chuckles because it's true. She's never been to, or maybe never been invited to, a good party up north. They're all stuffy and black-tie events and she thinks they're dumb. Everything is so much more wild down south. It's honestly fucking great to her. "Well, I'm sure there's an arcade somewhere, there's the theatre, the bar might be open around the afternoon time, but it's more of a night feature. Hell, when I get bored enough, I just go drivin'. Nothin' can beat that~"Star raises an eyebrow, she's never seen the appeal of driving. It's not something she's ever been interested in doing, she gets too bored and it's rather hard to do anything in a car without getting sick, at least for her. "You just drive, what, around town? That seems kinda, y'know, lame." She says with a little grin. He perked a brow and let out a chuckle, running his free hand through his hair. "Ah, but you haven't gone drivin' with me. I don't just cruise; I hit the gas. I speed through the streets and let my baby growl as she tears up the asphalt."Perhaps it was an American Southern thing, but it just felt so free. He clicked his tongue, pulled a drag off his cigarette, then put it out under his foot. "Just think about it, drivin' through the island, you with your camera... Just think of all the pictures you could take. All the sights you could see if you just took the time to not care about anythin' and drive. Hell, I can promise you that I've seen some pretty beautiful things drivin'. Vast fields look different when you take the time to relax, so does the sky, the sunset? Have you been drivin' around the edge of the island, where the cliffs are and the ocean crashes against the rocks?"He whistled as he imagined it, smirking wide, "Pull off to the side and park, then just look out at the ocean. Beautiful sights."Ah, but she probably didn't care about that, just from the sounds of her reaction to the parties; she must have been a party girl. In his defense, he was a party boy, but he was also a take time and reflect kind of guy, too. He supposed some people just didn't get that like he did. Perhaps he was strange in that kind of way.

star resists the urge to laugh, the way rocky talks about his car - or at least she assumes it's his car - is so funny. it's probably the same way she speaks about her art, where each of them is a person and has their own image, but it sounds funnier coming out of someone else's mouth.
"oookay," she says with a raised eyebrow and a smile barely holding back a fit of laughter.
however, when he starts to describe the sights he's seen when he's drive around. she almost looses herself in her imagination. the can practically see the sparkling, blue-green ocean and the soft waves brushing against the sandy shoreline. the green grass swaying in the wind in a field that goes on for as far as she can see.
she pulls herself back when she feels like she's gone to far, the images that she just put together in her head were breathtaking.
"that doesn't sound so bad, on a second thought." she says with a little grin. "maybe you should take me when you drive sometime, sounds like my kinda place."
well, parties and clubs were also her kind of place, but breathtaking landscapes are the same.

Rocky perked his brow at her "Oookay" and he frowned a little, pursing his lips together, feeling a little embarrassed. "What?" was all he managed to get out, unsure of what it was that weirded her out in the first place. "I'm serious, man! I bet you'd love it. We should definitely do that some time," he eventually continued on, smirking a bit towards the end. Caramel brown eyes traveled down Star, from head to toe, then back up again. She was rather cute, he couldn't help but notice, though he wasn't going to actually voice that. Along the way, he noticed the camera again and he rubbed his chin. "Also, uh... I really am sorry 'bout dirtyin' up your lens."
