The shutter came to life the instant the rustle of the leaves from a nearby tree sounded, capturing the scene of four birds taking flight into the clear afternoon sky. After the series of fast clicks stopped and the birds way too far out of sight, Luke lowered the camera from his eyes. Per usual, he was outside on a Saturday afternoon taking photos after his tutoring classes had ended and lunch already consumed. There was going to be a slight change to his usual routine today though. Someone was going to join him. He hoped that Lacie wouldn't be taking too long getting her. If her boss asked her to run an extra shift or do an extra errand, she better be able to decline. He was not going to do something like this twice. It was miraculous enough that he even thought about getting out of his way to make time for her as he was not going to be getting anything in return. Well, except for new pictures and practicing his skills. But they were not going to be useful for publishing because someone was too self-conscious. Which was what led to today in the first place. It was already one thirty. Just half an hour yet before she would be deemed late since he told her to come to the park before two. Scanning the area, he looked for something else to photograph as he waited for her call. He turned to his left - butterflies swarming a bed of flowers catching his attention. Walking forward, he stopped in front of them and lifted his camera up to replace his eyes once more. Once, twice, the shutter moved. He paused as the butterflies changed the formation of their dance around the flowers, and then pressed capture once more. Camera lowered, he was about to check the taken photos when an familiar outline intercepted his vision from nearby. He tilted his head up to see the person he was waiting for making their way across the park a few feet away from him. She hadn't noticed him yet. His raised his camera once more, zooming in on the oblivious girl. Once she was in perfect position, he copied her onto the device in his hands. For the next few seconds it went on this way - him following and viewing Lace through the creative lens from a distance, adjusting them and imprinting her onto the camera's memory. Every turn of her head, every step she took, every dance her strands of hair did as the breeze carried them behind her was recorded. Huh. Maybe Lacie wasn't too far off about him being a stalker. From the eyes of other people, he probably did look like one at the moment. He scoffed. But the truth remains that he wasn't. That was that. After two shots of her with her phone pressed against her ear, the phone in his pocket rang. He reached over to pick it up. "To your left," he said before ending the call and standing there as he waited for her to come over. |
