| The kitchen smelled absolutely heavenly. Big sister Livie always made the best dinners every time she visited. Tonight just so happened to be one of those nights since she called up her cousin seeing if she'd like some company for the evening. Seyka was the epitome of a kitchen hazard despite her wish to learn how to cook. Her clumsy nature and air-headed exterior plus the cooking vicinity was the chemistry of potential disasters. Sey Sey wanted to offer something nice for Olivia while she was busy making food for the two of them~
She opened up the piano in the living room neighboring the kitchen. The pinkette perched herself into the stool before lifting up the lid off of the keys. Perfect porcelain keys with ebony sharp/flat keys in between the pearly whites. Her finger tips barely grazing the surface of the finely polished keys. Music sheets were on the display. A smile danced upon her lips recognizing this classic piece. She situated the sheets together.
Once everything was placed the way to her liking, Seyka began to play the song. Her fingers gliding off to and from keys to form chords, melody and harmony to fill up the house with gentle music. Her eyes closed, head bobbling softly to the flowing rhythm. Her train of thoughts traveling across multiple topics she had to talk about with her cousin. But which one to start out with? There was the recent debut albums coming out of the market, the amusing blonde guitarist she met in the park, and the rest of the lady politics to discuss about~ So much to do, so much to say.

| It was always enjoyable to have the chance to cook for someone other than herself. Olivia enjoyed being in the kitchen nearly as much as she enjoyed teaching. If working at the university did not work out, then she could always follow her secondary dream to be a chef. She nearly snorted at the thought before taking the pan of lasagna from the oven. She was not making anything overly fancy tonight, which she knew Seyka would not mind. It was always nice to see her extended family when there was time. Olivia knew she missed her immediate family that still lived in Italy. She could always go back and visit whenever she wished to. Until then, she contented herself with her students and her cousins that also lived here.
Her lips curled into a soft smile when she heard the music echoing through the air. Seyka seemed to have found something to keep her occupied. Olivia loved her younger cousin, but she would never allow her to handle a sharp object in her kitchen. The mere idea spelled utter destruction and mayhem with how clumsy she could be. She leaned against the counter and listened to the soothing melody as the lasagna cooled. Seyka certainly had a lovely talent for playing the piano, and she did not doubt that a career could be made out of it. Her own skill with the piano was decent enough. Certainly not as wonderful as the younger pinkette, though.
Olivia shook herself from her musings after a few more minutes had passed. Pushing herself from the counter, she slipped on her oven mitts and carried the lasagna dish over to the dining room table. A small spread had already been set up beforehand. Chicken scampi, garlic bread, and now the thoroughly cheesy lasagna. “Dinner is ready, Seyka,” Olivia called out. Disappearing back into the kitchen, she returned with a pitcher of apple cider to pour into the two glasses set on the table. |

| Throughout her little piano performance she could smell the aroma of dinner floating up in the air. Her tummy growled quite audibly nearly breaking her concentration on playing River Flows in You. By the time she reached the conclusion of the song, she let the last remaining chords of the melody hold until it faded up into the air. Nothing felt more refreshing than playing a good song on the piano. Her slender fingers leaving the keys just in time to hear big sister call out telling her dinner was ready. A smile graced upon her lips.
“Coming, Livvie!” she exclaimed happily. “Good timing! I'm starving. I think I could eat fit for three days straight!” She watched Olivia leave for the kitchen to get a pitcher of drinks. As her cousin did that, Seyka pulled out the chair for the sociology professor then went over to situate herself in her chair. “It smells so good,” she exclaimed ecstatically. “Is this one of your secret recipe dishes?” Every time she visited big sister Livvie for family gatherings, the little pinkette was never ceased to be surprised with all kinds of warm, loved filled dishes that were provided for dinner. This was no exception either~
“How are you liking Nova Athenis?” she asked sparking conversation at the table. “Everything ok? I'd like to take you out around town one of these days~” She was about to reach for the knife to start cutting the lasagna. Though her train of thought quickly sent red alert signals. She flashed a sheepish smile before pulling her hand away.

| Olivia sometimes worried that Seyka was not getting enough to eat with comments like that. Did her mother cook her an Italian meal like their family had always taught and enjoyed doing? Well, her door was always open to the younger girl, and her spacious apartment had more than enough room to accommodate another person that wished to stay for a night. Sometimes she almost wished that Seyka was her own, since the younger girl came over often enough. It was nice to have a night off from grading papers or typing up a syllabus for the next semester. Her work was a big part of her life, but everyone needed a break sometimes. The scent of the food was enough to have her close her eyes to enjoy the aroma.
“Hardly a secret recipe, Seyka. It was one my mother often made when I was younger. Younger than you,” she mused with a slight smile. Twelve years ago, she had been Seyka’s age and now she was thirty. Olivia wondered at how time could pass so quickly. Many of those years had been spent in college or traveling, and now here she was settling down at last. Well, not completely. She settled herself into the chair Seyka had pulled out for her with a content sigh. It was nice to rest her slightly aching feet after a long day. Hopefully it was not a sign of her getting too old now.
“I’m enjoying Nova Athenis so far. Most of my time is spent at the university, so I haven’t taken much time to explore the island.” Her brow quirked when she noticed Seyka reaching for a knife to cut out a piece of lasagna. That would not work well with her asking so many questions. Olivia reached out for the knife and smiled slightly at her younger cousin. Even a butter knife could be dangerous for her to use if she did not focus completely on that. “Let me serve dinner. I’ll teach you how to use the cutlery afterward,” she teased. A large portion of the lasagna was settled onto Seyka’s plate along with two pieces of garlic bread. |

| “Thank you,” she said appreciatively. Her eyes went wide when she was given a pretty good piece of the lasagna with two garlic bread as her sides. If she didn't know any better, Sey Sey would think that Olivia was trying to put more meat on her bones. She wasn't super thin, but she did try to watch what she ate. The little pinkette pianist spent more time playing music than she did on other things. Sometimes she did forget when to eat until her tummy was roaring at her to be fed.
“Which is exactly why we need to take you out on your next day off! To see the sights,” she exclaimed with a affirmative nod. “Who knows... you might snatch a boyfriend on this island.” She did nothing to hide the teasing grin plastered on her lips either. Livvie did deserve someone to be by her side. Especially at her age as well~ The age of getting ready to marry. She took the silverware into her hands, and began chowing down on the meal presented to her.
Rich saucy blend with melted cheese and pasta mixed all dancing on the tips of her taste buds. She winced slightly though from the heat. It was still a little hot but the burn was worth the flavor. She swallowed it down then washed the burn with apple cider in her cup. “Mama wanted me to tell you that if you run into any problems here then feel free to call us. We're more than happy to lend you a hand.” she mentioned after she swallowed down the two gulps of cider.
“Say Livvie, where was the last coutry you've visited before moving here? What was it like?” she asked with bright, bubbling curiosity. The eighteen year old loved hearing stories from other countries from her older cousin.

| Olivia really did not have the time to go out and socialize with lesson plans to make, papers to grade, and devoting most of her free time to helping her students that were struggling. Most of the time she came home rather tired and remembering the endless years of college when she had been the student. Being on the other side of the desk was not that much better. Olivia had once considered a few of her own professors evil for the work they gave, but now she sympathized with having to grade such work. At least she remembered to go out and buy food, but her habitual need to cook could not be ignored for all that long. Her apartment was becoming her entire world at this point if she did not count the university.
Her brow quirked at the teasing grin Seyka sent her way. A boyfriend? Olivia snorted at the thought and merely shook her head. “I know I don’t quite look my age, but I’m not a boy crazy teenager, Seyka. That’s something girls your age worry about,” she replied dryly. It was an outright lie, but she would never admit it. Nearly any woman of any age worried about a man if she did not have one, unless she was interested in women. That certainly did not apply to her, but Olivia did not need a man to feel fulfillment. Her mother would be shouting at her right now if she could hear her thoughts. She did wanted what her parents had eventually. Her career was more important right now, though.
She cut off a small piece of her helping of lasagna to eat. The burn was hardly noticed by her, since years of cooking had made her immune to too hot food. “Thank you. Neither of you need to worry too much about me. I’ve been managing well enough so far.” Olivia sipped at her apple cider idly before she glanced back to Seyka. Her lips quirked into a slight smile at the question. Her cousin had such a young heart when it came to stories. “The last country I visited was back in Italy before coming here. That was where your mother and I grew up. I would like to take you there someday. Rome is beautiful with all of the ruins and historical sites to visit. Or at one of my father’s beach houses to see the ocean.” |
