@claudia A you're welcome went unsaid, as Caeden wasn't really one for acknowledging politeness. He refused to, it wasn't like he bothered much with them to begin with. Claudia, on the other hand, seemed to be careful to do it. It was nice, though - a contrast from what he was used to.
That and he was doing Biddle a favor.
He gladly took her wave to follow her as a direction, and started off at her pace, matching her. Step for step, he was careful to stay somewhat next to her, close enough that it would be generally obvious that they were walking together. made by CAPTAIN of GANGNAM STYLE

He seemed to hesitate a bit, pausing before he spoke, but Claudia didn't think much of it. Sometimes she needed quite a while to think before she spoke.
He fell into step beside her - somehow, without either of them making a concerned effort, they ended up matching strides, which Claudia noticed with a small smile.
"Do you live... close?" She asked, deciding that ten minutes would be an awful long time to spend in silence, especially when there was so much they still had to learn about each other. Even if she never saw Caeden and his cat ever again - though she hoped she would - Claudia was eager to know more. | @caeden | CODED BY ELECTRIC OF GS

@claudia He hadn't noticed the matched stride, how he had synched up with her while they were walking. The purring of Biddle started to grow silent as well, and Caeden assumed the cat just ended up falling asleep in her arms like he tended to do. Like the adorable ball of fluff he was.
"Close enough. Just a few minutes down the street, so your house is somewhat on the way." On the way, past the way, it didn't seem to matter much now. While he doubted that he would ever see her again (despite her working in the same diner he really liked to visit), it was actually nice to have company. It was surprisingly comforting, be able to talk to someone that didn't think he was completely rude. At least he hoped not. made by CAPTAIN of GANGNAM STYLE

She nodded as he spoke to show she was listening, because she didn't answer for a moment, piecing together the words. The cat was still and warm in her arms, and she glanced down with a smile at its sleeping face.
He didn't seem very interested in conversation, at least not prompting it. He didn't seem opposed to answering her questions, the stock getting-to-know people kind from language guids. "Are you working?" | @caeden | CODED BY ELECTRIC OF GS

Yet again she took a moment to respond, of which hee was certain was Claudia's attempt at piecing together what he had said. If she had asked for a clarification, he would have been more than willing t give one. Especially with her lacking in the English language. Biddle didn't seem to mind.
"A bartender, in town. I ended up getting stuck on the late shift again." Like usual, since no one else liked dealing with the late-night drunks. Caeden at least had a system, kicking out anyone who was a too wasted before things got bad. "What about you? Are you a waitress?"

She nodded - a bartender sounded like an interesting job, though she'd never really gone to any bars here. While walking alone at night she could do, going alone to a bar in a different country was just plain scary. But it was definitely something she'd do, as soon as she improved her English.
"No, not waitress yet. Bus tables." She smiled. "I hope to be waitress, when my English improve." She added with a light laugh.

It sounded like a boring job, and not one quite worth the pay. Caeden hated his job, thought that didn't seem to be much of a surprise once he would got to know someone. Then again, Claud (he decided that was what he was going to call her) didn't know him.
Plus, he couldn't help but wonder if her english was going to get any better, because to him, it didn't seem like it. Of course, he didn't voice that. "Good luck, then. I hear waitressing is a lot of fun." He also had heard some pretty not-so-fun stories about waitressing, but again he decided he wouldn't tell Claud. She seemed excited for it and for some reason, he didn't want to ruin that.

"Thank you!" She said - if he didn't mean it genuinely, she didn't catch on. Of course waitressing wasn't her dream job - she had no idea what her dream job even was - but it was a step up from bussing, and it was some sort of progress. It was a step closer to a place of her own.
"Are you er, born here?"

He shrugged, figuring that she wouldn't have caught sarcasm even if he took it and dangled it in front of her. Then again, he wasn't sure if she really understood much of what he was saying - it wasn't like she was making a lot of sense. Caeden didn't really care, but he did enjoy the fact that he wasn't walking for ten minutes in complete silence.
"Yes. I'll assume you weren't?" It was obvious, he knew, but he wasn't sure if she would have caught on. "Where were you born?" He wondered if his original guess of south america would have been valid.

"Nova is very beautiful." She said, assuming that a compliment to his native island would be like a compliment to him.
Claudia giggled - at least she understood that was something of a joke, that nobody could really mistake her as a native. "Brazil." She replied.

Another shrug, he had a feeling that he was shrugging an awful lot. It was like his second way of conversation. "It's okay."
Brazil, he had never been there. He didn't even really have the money to leave Nova, let alone go to Brazil. "Is it as nice as I've heard?"

She was beginning to see that he wasn't very enthusiastic about much, but she still thought Caeden was nice enough, offering to walk her home and all.
"Ah," Claudia liked Nova better, or at least the freedom she had. Things were less than ideal, but she was sure they'd get better. It was a beautiful island. "It's okay." She mirrored, smiling. The grass is greener. She might have said, if she could remember the phrase.

Whether the noise he made was a chuckle or a scoff was to be taken by Claudia, as Caeden did his best to cover up the almost-grin from his almost-amusement. Sure, she was cute, and he had a feeling that she was just being casual in her peppy foreign way.
Curiosity started pricking at the back of his mind. "Do you live alone?" For some reason, he found himself really curious about her, and it came as a shock to him considering his indifference to everyone else that crossed his path. "Or are you living with a friend?"

Claudia was looking between Caeden's face and the sidewalk in front of them - it would be embarrassing to trip, or get them lost, but she was doing well on both fronts so far.
She shook her head. "Family friends." It was a favour for her mother, who had been opposed to Claudia leaving at all, until she wore her down and promised she would work hard and come visit. "I'm saving up for apartment." She added.

Caeden nodded, understanding most things. It made sense, a busgirl from Brazil living with family friends. Meanwhile, his only companion was Biddle - who was still curled up comfortably in her arms - in a small apartment.
But he nodded none the less. "There's an open apartment a complex down from mine." Would she notice if he visited the diner more often? Left maybe a bigger tip - except she wasn't a waitress so it wouldn't have worked out like that. He still wondered if she'd notice such a thing.
