As much adventuring as Ellie liked to believe she did, she didn't actually do all that much. Maybe that's why she's sitting outside the Police Station crying her eyes out. She's too scared to go in - for fear of the fact her daddy would be in and see her crying, god forbid he sees his seven year old daughter crying. She doesn't want him to see this side of her, the weak little girl side.
So, she's taken up sitting outside the station until a nice enough police man (or woman!) comes to take her home.
Though, if she were asked, she has no idea where home is.
Maybe that's how she got lost in the first place, whoops.

Jobe sees a lot of things coming into the station every day, but a small girl crying hasn't been one of them. Still, there's a first time for everything.
He does what any person the force would - or should - do, and approaches the girl, leaning down so as not to completely tower over her. Clears his throat, asks, "Are you lost... miss?" He's not really sure what to call her, as little girl would probably make for a bad first impression.
Well, she's sitting outside of the station, so chances were she's lost or looking for someone. He'd be willing to bet on both, given that he couldn't think of any other reason.

Ellie sniffles, and looks up. She sees a man who she doesn't know, BUT, he is in a police uniform, so she assumes she can trust him.
She nods as she wipes away her tears, "Y-Yes, I..." She sniffles again. "I don't k-know... how to get home.."
"Y-You... can he-help right?" She asks, tears still streaming down her face.

The girl's features look familiar, just slightly, but he can't place ever seeing her before. The thought is out of his mind just as quickly as it was in.
Jobe nods, gives the girl a small smile that feels awkward on on him. "It's part of my job, so I'm sure I can." He looks around, searching for some kind of mother or father figure that might be searching. Finding none, he turns back to her. "Can you tell me your name?" If worse came to worse, they could always wait until a parent came to the station. In a panic, no doubt.

"A-Are you sure....?" She asks a bit hesitant.
She doesn't know many police officers, but she knows her daddy is one. He's not a very good one from what she's heard, so she doesn't know how much faith to put into the police officers in this city. They're probably better than her dadddy - most people are - but she still can't help feel all hesitant to trust him.
Even if his uniform is all prim and proper and nicely done up.
"I-I'm... um, Ellie... Ko-Korta... Kortajarena," She says, struggling to say her last name, again. "B-but um, my daddy has a different last name than me...!"

Jobe nods, just once more. "I'm sure." He's just thankful that this kid isn't completely hysterical - he's seen it, and doesn't wish to ever deal with it. Which isn't to say that he doesn't like kids, because he does like them. The quiet ones.
He notes her struggle to say her last name, and doesn't blame her. Maybe her parents are divorced... But that hardly should have mattered right then; what was important was getting this girl - Ellie - home.
"So I'm guessing you live with your Mother?" It wouldn't hurt to clear up that detail, at least. "Can you tell me how you got lost?"

Ellie nods, somewhat believing he can do his job. She's still a little hesitant though, but she feels like he's an okay person and he's okay enough for her to believe him! She sniffles once, and then twice before wiping away her last round of tears with her sleeve.
"Y-yes, I live with my mama and my sister." She says.
How did she get lost? Ellie thinks about it for a while. Too many buildings, too many tall people, too many places she doesn't know, but she doesn't want to say that outloud. She's a little embarrassed over the fact she got lost.
"We-well, um... I was out for a walk because I just finished my h-home school work and um," She explains. "W-well, I know my daddy works at the police station, so... so I walked here because I got lost, a-and then I didn't want to go in because I didn't know if he was here or not.. "
Ellie glances down at her feet for a while before looking up at the police man.
"H-His name is Raul, and I don't think he likes me very much, so... I didn't go in, in case he doesn't wanna see me... if he's there..." Ellie sniffles a little bit.

Jobe is patient, waits for Ellie to think it through. When she finally answers, he frowns a bit. No kid that looked her age should be wandering around town alone, even if she was looking for her Dad.
But that fact that her Dad works here is intriguing to him. He wonders if the man is anyone he knows. If so, he could probably take her inside to find him right then. But then he hears the name Raul, and his face drops to a blank slate.
Not that Raul. He prays, to any God really, that it isn't that Raul.
Jobe clears his throat, hesitantly asks, "What's your Father's last name, Ellie?" He swears to himself that he'll get her home. He just wants to make sure that her dad isn't Coelho.

Ellie tilts her head curiously.
Maybe he knows her daddy, oh, but what if he tells her daddy that she was crying! Her eyes start going a little watery again.
"A-Are you goona tell my daddy I was crying?" She asks.
She sniffles once, before rubbing away the tears threatening to fall.
"B-but um, I think... I think my daddy's last name starts with an, um, C... or something," Ellie says, sounding extremely unsure. "Co-coelho..? I think."

"I-" Jobe pauses, inspects Ellie's expression. She looks like she's about to cry again. Judging from that, he shakes his head. "I promise I won't tell him, Ellie."
Even despite Ellie's lack of clarity on her father's surname, it's clear to Jobe who she means. This fact in itself makes him want to shake his head and sigh. As far as he knew, Coelho wasn't married. But knowing him, it wouldn't make a lick of difference.
All he could think was, poor kid.
"Alright, Ellie, I'm sure your Dad isn't in the station right now. We can contact your Mom and get you home, alright?" At least, he was fairly sure Raul wasn't in at the time. He'd never say that out loud, though.

ellie's face lights up with a smile, "o-oh thank you mister... um, police-officer!" she says.
ellie thinks for a seacond and realises that she doesn't know this man's name. it's very rude not to ask for someone's name. she figures that she'll ask for his name later, maybe when they've called her mama or someone to come pick her up and they're waiting.
"o-okay..." ellie says, before standing.
she brushes off any pebbles and dirt off her pants before straightening out her shirt and fixes her socks which were making her feet feel uncomfortable.
"d-do you think my mama is goona be mad, mister...?" she asks after she's done making sure she looks presentable.
