It was Friday night, classes had ended late, and Isobel was going to spend the rest of the night drinking. Not getting shitfaced at a club or party, probably alone in her apartment. Briefly she entertained the idea of heading out to a few small bars. Very briefly.
Her school bag pressed against her hip and dug into her shoulder, and she couldn't wait to get back to her place. A hot bath, a glass of red wine.
The stores along the streets were closing up, shutters sliding into place and open signs flickering off. It was quiet; in an hour or two the streets would come alive in a distinctly different way, though Isobel planned to be home before the masses were out.

The bookstore was dim as Theia exited, dark when she turned off the remaining lights and locked the door on her way out. Upon entering the alley adjacent to the brick building, she held her bag all the more tight under her arm. It wasn't uncommon that she closed up shop alone, but her mild fear of the dark and what - or who - might lurking in it would never change. She supposed she didn't have too much reason to be afraid anymore; but, taking note of her pepper pepper spray while searching for her car keys, it never hurt to be extra cautious.
She fast-walked across the street, finding her keys and pulling them out. Looking up in search of her car, she found a familiar face instead. "Isobel?" More of a question than a greeting, but she could more or less guess why the woman was out so late. Theia's expression held a friendly, easy smile.

She did carry a little cannister of mace, out alone at night, as any young woman might; but she'd never had cause to use it. She was eerily calm with most things, and she didn't look the least bit uneasy. It was only some blocks to her flat from here.
There were footsteps crossing her path, and she recognized the direction they trailed from before she did the person, both of which were a pleasant surprise. She stopped walking, hitching her back up on her shoulder with a rare smile. Not so rare around Theia.
Isobel was no socialite, she chose her company carefully, and she liked Theia. They were probably little more than acquaintances - really they didn't know much about one another, just that they had a similar interest in literature, and that they got on fairly well.
Well enough that Isobel had stopped for a chat. "Evening," She said lightly, following Theia's path to the bookstore, shut for the night. "Off work, at last?"

She didn’t know Isobel all that well, but she was easy to talk to, and Theia found that reason enough to like her. Running in to her this late was unexpected, but certainly a nice end to a long, and admittedly a bit boring, day.
Nodding confirmation, her car keys jingled as her arm rested at her side. ”Mhm. I had to organize the storeroom before I got off.” Even now, she could have sworn there was still dust somewhere about her person. Her nose tickled, on the verge of a sneeze, but it went away when she shrugged as if to say what can you do.
”What about you?” She inquired. She knew that Isobel was in college, but didn’t have much of an idea of how much time elapsed for each class. Was it precise? Did it vary? Had they been more familiar with each other, she might have asked; but even then, an evening street was no place for a long conversation. Still, Theia was glad she had someone to chat with before going home.

Isobel wasn't normally one for small talk, probably because she had little interest in mundane details about most psople's lives. But when it came to someone whose company she genuinly enjoyed, it was a different, and entirely pleasant, matter.
"Evening classes." She said in way of explanation. She didn't particularly mind, staying late on Friday evenings, she liked her classes and she didn't usually have much in the way of plans either.
"Heading home?" She nodded towards the row of cars parked along the street, not sure which one was Theia's. The night was still young. Theia didn't seem like the type to go out clubbing and drinking, but Isobel didn't like to assume.

Theia nodded; she didn’t typically go out drinking or clubbing after work. Most of the time she was either too exshausted or simply didn’t feel like it—besides, it wasn’t fun if she was alone.
She nodded to her car, standing out like a white beacon among the other dark cars. ”Yes, that’s it over there.” A pause, in which she drew in a small breath, before she stuck her thumb out to the vehicle. ”I could give you a ride home, if you wanted.”
Truthfully, Theia didn’t want to go home right away. Offering to take Isobel home almost felt like an excuse just to keep talking to her.

Isobel looked to the direction Theia indicated, towards the parked car. She shook her head with a polite smile. "No, it's alright. I'm not far from here." She nodded in the direction she'd been headed. She didn't want to be an inconvenience. Besides, Isobel didn't mind the walk, it cleared her head.
"Wouldn't want to keep you." She said, realizing that she really didn't know what kind of plans Theia would even have. They hadn't spoken about much apart from books.

Theia hesitated, unsure of whether she’d be bothering Isobel by asking her anything further. She reasoned that there wasn’t much to lose; they would probably part ways soon anyways. ”Actually, Isobel, I was thinking about getting a drink, but it’s not really fun alone. Would you like to come with?”
It didn’t hurt to ask. Besides, she wanted to get to know Isobel a little bit more, even if over a couple drinks. However she wouldn’t blame her if she refused the offer; it was kind of late, after all.

It wasn't in her nature for Isobel to seek out company. She had settled into a comfortable solitude, but being drawn from it wasn't always a bad thing. Truthfully she was a bit worn from the day of classes, but it was a Friday, and she didn't find Theia to be tiring company at all. She was pleasant and interesting, and Isobel gave a warm smile.
"That sounds lovely." She replied. "I was actually planning on having a few drinks myself."
