BLUE LIPS, BLUE VEINS | [attr="class","follwr"]The grip on her suitcase was tight. Her nails dug into her skin, as Yin dipped her head down when another western male decided to try and disrupt her path down another dimmed street.
She could be fine with mice and dirt and blood and grime, but not people. Never people. People were never good news, Fangyin had enough experience. But now, all her aimless searching was over. Her grip tightened more so, but it was as if she felt no pain.
Walking up decaying stairs and rickety platforms, she reached a door with fading paint. She had spent all night searching for this door.
All of a sudden it felt, struggling, breathing- As if someone was grabbing onto her heart and not letting go. Squeezing her eyes shut, she knocked suddenly, squeaking to herself and calling: "Brother? B-Brother... a-are you there?"

| He didn't go out much. On business, for groceries. Minzhe liked it better here, though it was none too glamorous it was all his own space, cluttered with journals and little bits and parts of mechanics. It wasn't dirty so much as messy, cluttered but not unclean. A handful of screws on the coffee table, a finished sudoku with equations scribbled outside the grid. Stir fry sizzling on the rusted oven.
A knock permeated the makeshift-silence.
Minzhe didn't get many visitors, and he didn't move for the door until he recognized the voice on the other side. He blinked, wiping his hands on a dish rag as he came from the kitchen. For once it felt like there wasn't a thought in his head as he drifted to the door and fumbled with the sticking knob.
"Fangyin?" it came out flatly, and it was caught somewhere between question and drifting statement. He hadn't told anyone where he was.

BLUE LIPS, BLUE VEINS | [attr="class","follwr"]Her breath hitched, head slowly craning up to see the face she hadn't done so for so long. She'd count the days, forget, and count again, all with loneliness and bitterness in mind, and, and-
Her suitcase was placed in front of her chest as if to protect it. Her fingers clenched, voice still not quite finding itself. Yin's face didn't know what expression to morph into, either, so she watched him, her dear brother, and the contours of his face, the dim glow of his eyes, the softness only she could find in his expression-
"Minzhe." She chocked out. "Minzhe-"
The petite Chinese girl burst into tears, albeit without a sound, save for near inaudible gasps. She was used to crying.

| He had long come to realize he was set on a different wavelength than most people. Their smiles didn't brighten his day, their tears didn't darken it. He was in his own world and there was only one other person who was admitted entrance. There was only one person that he would never see cry.
There were plenty of questions to ask. But more important that the facts was the fact that Fangyin, his dear sister, who had come all this way, was crying. His lips parted, uncertain, as if he might offer some sort of words of comfort.
Instead, he closed the distance between them with half a step and wrapped his arms around her. He pulled her close, to his chest. The suitcase was a solid block between them, all there was between them.

BLUE LIPS, BLUE VEINS | [attr="class","follwr"]Her grip on the suitcase loosened without her even noticing, so that her own arms could wrap around her brother's. It was like an automated response, something she didn't even have to acknowledge for a split second. Her heart was heavy in her chest like a solid lead weight trying to cut through her stomach; letting the acid ruin her insides.
Lips wavered, trembling, as if trying to murmur words that meant more than she knew. Yin took in Minzhe's scent carefully, wondered how he spent the years alone, and put a mental final chapter for the days gone, spent alone with four walls boxing her in.
Her breathing evened out, fingers softly crawling against Minzhe's back, as if trying to find her way into him; so solitude would never have to be faced again.
"Minzhe..." She tried to say a million words, but only one came out.

| He could feel his shoulders loosening, a tension unravelling. Relief. As if he'd been waiting and worrying all this time. And he had been. He was tall, almost bent double in the hug, feeling her fingers bunching in his shirt and holding on to her just as tightly, resting his chin on the top of her head. Minzhe didn't know how long they stood like statues, before he pulled back to look at her at arm's length. She hadn't changed.
Minzhe gave her a rare smile, freeing up a hand to pick up her dropped suitcase, to beckon her inside. It felt uncomfortable and vulnerable to stand in the hallway, there was no question where Fangyin would stay.
He spoke softly, but barely stuttered with her. "How did you find me?" Tenacious, clever girl. | @f |

BLUE LIPS, BLUE VEINS | [attr="class","follwr"]Her eyes were still watery, so she wiped the tears with an unsure, hesitant movement. She looked up to see Minzhe's properly, and managed to form a small smile. It was good to take in his scent again, to know in the back of her mind that he was in reaching distance, that she didn't have to be lost and aimless and sad any more.
Her footsteps were slow like a child's, as she stared at her feet and the path before her.
"Nothing is impossible, if you have the means and the skills." Fangyin's lips curled into a proud smile, taking her brother's words as a compliment.

| He shut the door behind her, shut and locked it.
"I hope it wasn't too easy a trail to follow." Minzhe was always careful and calculated. But blood was thicker than water and it pooled at his feet and must have left a trail to follow.
Something rippled in the pool, now. Everything in his apartment looked the same as always, but seemed entirely different, less forlorn, more cozy, more like home when she stood among the ratty couch and chipped coffee table. The suitcase looked part of the décor, by the door where he'd placed it.
He bent over to see her eyes glimmering with tears, snatching a tissue from a box and pressing it beneath her eyes. "You're here now." He reminded her, pressing the tissue into her hands.
"Are you hungry?"

BLUE LIPS, BLUE VEINS | [attr="class","follwr"]"Of course not, brother." She arrived a month ago, and that was testament enough.
She was staring at her feet, her shoes in particular and how they shone in the dim light in particular, to stop herself from following her brother with her eyes. She'd been told it was um, 'creepy'. Fangyin didn't really want to be um, 'creepy', towards her brother, of all people. It'd been so long, after all. She had to be on her best behaviour.
Her head rose, still brimming with tears when he stood before her, wiping the rest of the tears away. Oh, how shameful. Despite all her experience, tears weren't as easy to stop as she thought they were.
So she nodded timidly, trying to swallow down the stones in her throat and the light headache that was wanting to come and knock on her door.
"Uh." She chocked out, in truth wanting a shower more, but that would be rude. She'd been searching all day and was tired, so Yin nodded.
"Can I... s-sit down?"

| He was paranoid, he was terrified of being found out. But if it was Fangyin, it would be alright. At least here he could watch her, protect her. He could try to protect her, but he was hopeless at comfort.
Minzhe shuffled to the kitchen to dump the slightly-overcooked stir fry onto a plate. He had cooked for one, but he stuck a fork in it and carried it back. Carefully he shifted a few papers around for a place to put it.
"Make yourself at home." He said, averting his eyes, staring a speck on the wall. She seemed uncomfortable. It had been a while.

BLUE LIPS, BLUE VEINS | [attr="class","follwr"]There was a sense of comfort that blossomed in her chest; so much so she didn't know if she could take it, so she squirmed a little in happiness, a smile spreading across her face.
"Thank you, brother." Her eyes weren't as jaded as before, but she ignored the fork in the stir fry and picked some up with her fingers instead.
"Why won't you sit with me— or do you not want to?" She asked, tilting her head, after she had swallowed her fingerful of vegetables. Yin had to prove she hadn't forgotten her manners in front of brother. It was brother, after all.
She then placed her two hands in her lap, now sitting down on the sofa, nerves pilling up together again. Was it her? Did she do something wrong?
Fangyin was so confused.

| Wordlessly, he took up a seat on the couch by Fangyin's side, glancing sidelong at her. She looked the same as ever - he's committed her face to memory, even if he hasn't drawn up its contours in his mind since he's left. Maybe he had, at first, but eventually he'd settled into being by himself. Of course he worried, but he was very good at being alone.
He cleared his throat, fingers linking and unlinking, fidgeting. "I'm sorry." Fangyin doesn't seem angry, but he left and he never said a thing to her, he left her on his own when he shouldn't have. | @f |

BLUE LIPS, BLUE VEINS | [attr="class","follwr"]All of a sudden very aware of his gaze on her, Fangyin wordlessly picked up the stir fry from the table with one hand, so she could pick at it with her fingers on the other hand.
Without asking for permission though, her head leant on Minzhe's shoulder for a moment, then turning to whisper in his ear.
"It's okay now. I'm okay. I don't have to be alone any more." She smiled, still leaning on his shoulder and licking the oil from her fingers.

He wasn't hungry anymore - Fangyin was eating, he was feeding her, and that was a comfort. That reminded him that he could take care of her now. She was the only one who made him feel something more than helpless victim.
He didn't recognize what was and wasn't normal any more than she did, and Minzhe's lips twitched into a smile. Staring straight ahead, his arm wound around Fangyin.
"You're here now."

BLUE LIPS, BLUE VEINS | [attr="class","follwr"]She sighed longingly, feeling the chill in her bones from the night air evaporating through her brother's kindness.
Sucking on the end of a finger as if trying to get the flavouring under her fingernails, she suddenly took it out and spoke instead.
"Ah, I have something for you, brother." She smiled, balancing the dish on one leg and pulling a small box out of her pocket, and handed it to him.
"Grandmother said this jade necklace will bring you prosperity, and good luck." She snuggled closer to him, taking in his smell.
