| “so, winnie.”
the whisper over the counter was close to conspiratal. eoin liked it that way; it kept the suspense up. never mind this was a bakery, never mind he was still in his school uniform, never mind it was 6 pm on a wednesday in nova athenis with that kinda tone eoin was sure he was creating a total detective noire vibe here. y'know, minus the vocabulary in the next sentence, “your shift is over soon, right?”
shift could mean anything in the world of noire; winnie just had to be creative and dig the whole mysterious vibe he was trying to give out here. he had to work with the name 'winnie' after all - what kinda noire name was that??
still, eoin could work with what he had and what else he had was in the courier bag, bulking uncomfortably as he clutched it close to him. a nervous tic of clinging it close was the only thing that didn't seem excited, though, or his “attempt at noire”. it did lessen down as time went on and he grew a little more conscious of himself, though, “i should probably buy something. huh.”
eoin had waited in a line to get to the counter, he guessed. edging back a bit so he could actually at the selection at the bakery, “i mean, what do you suggest?”

Winnie stared at him blankly before glancing over his shoulder at the growing line of customers. For some reason, ever since they met, she could just not shake him off. It wasn't horrible, the company, but she wasn't used to his way of... interaction. "So, Eoin." She cleared her throat and plastered on a smile like always.
"Shift yes, my shift. It should end after I get all these customers squared away." Her voice was tinged with an impatient tick, her eye twitching slightly at him wasting her time. (Which she secretly wouldn't mind if there weren't so many anxious customers backed up.) The apron she wore crumpled in her hand with a squeeze as she thought of something to give him.
First thing to come to mind was a muffin, that should do it right? He didn't want some weird mind link suggestion where he'd laugh and tell her thats not what he was thinking... right? Never being able to tell with him, she sighed and grabbed one from the display to her left, promptly bagging it. "Ok here, enjoy, I think you'll like it." A full set of teeth showed as she shoved him his purchase and waited(not without a tap of her foot) for the money.
