This wasn't what Aster had expected. She wasn't naive enough to have some sort of big city dream, but could you blame her for expecting more than this? More than standing on a streetcorner holding a sign. Aster was hardworking, she was the type to give her all, but there wasn't much you could fuck up here. Her posture was slouched, reflective of how enthusiastic she really was about this job.
Not at all.
She was certain that more people were looking at her boobs than they were at the sign. But that wasn't really her problem. She just had to remind herself that this was only temporary. This was getting her money. She could move out. She could take some college classes. She could do better than this. | @someone PLZ |

KEEP THAT PERFECT BEAT BOY
| Classes today were horrendous, and all Vivien wanted to do was go home. But no, no, he had supplies to buy and a professor he wanted to strangle repeatedly with a very thick vine. Luckily, he was almost done. The Manager at his usual workplace told him to come by, so he went to see him, and he ended up leaving with two cups of ice frappes. There was some kind of special 'happy hour' going on, and his boss insisted he took two because he 'felt weird otherwise'.
Ugh, sometimes he seriously hated people. The Manager was nice and all, but now he had carrier bags lifted up by the joint of his arms and looking idiotic as fuck.
So he stopped by this big breasted pinkie who was holding up a sign. He took a second to look at her face with a bored expression, and handed her a drink.
"Happy hour. Take it. I don't plan on drugging you and raping you, so just take it." Vivien narrowed his eyes, holding out the plastic cup with bags barely balancing on his arm.

Most of the time, Aster couldn't give less of a shit about other people. She looked after herself and cared for nobody else, not even in the casually interested way. She didn't follow celebrity news, she didn't like small talk though she often put up with it. She could pretend to care, but that was very different from actually caring.
But there wasn't much she could distract herself with, nothing but people watching. She had learned to stare into the distance, because eye contact implied interest and and interest was the last thing she wanted anyone to think she had.
It wasn't unavoidable. Her gaze flickered to the blonde boy - he was still a kid as far as she could see - holding an array of bags and two drinks. Her lip curled.
"Do you plan on asking me out, then?"

KEEP THAT PERFECT BEAT BOY
| "Either you've been standing out here for too long, or there's something wrong with you. I just don't want to waste a perfectly good iced coffee." Vivien shook his head. Maybe he was thinking too much. His hand was still outstretched and this was getting more and more awkward by the minute.
"Are you taking it, or not? My arm hurts." Vivien blinked twice. He hadn't looked at this woman properly, only stopped to hand this to her because deep inside, he felt a stretch of sympathy. In fact, noting her long pink locks and her pale, but not chalk like white skin, he now realised why she behaved that way.
But unlike most people, Vivien wasn't interested in... most people. She may be bright and pleasing to the eyes, but he would wonder whether or not her personality would be as bright and pleasing. But he wasn't looking for people to kiss his wounds.
"If I wanted to ask you out, I wouldn't go about it in such a shitty, cowardly way."

Aster wasn't vain, she just didn't see the merit in humility and discredit. She was from a small town, but she wasn't a small town girl. She already knew that not every man was a gentleman and that not everyone liked her for her pure shimmering soul. She already knew that most guys attention didn't go much further than her chest, and she already knew that they weren't nice for the sake of being nice.
She didn't assume these things because she was arrogant, she assumed them because she was cynical.
The guy was obviously having a hard time holding everything at once, but Aster didn't offer to help. She was being paid to hold a sign, not his things.
"Well thank goodness." Her tone was biting as she scrutinized him for a moment longer before letting it drop, and reaching out to take the drink. He did seem a bit too rude to be hitting on her. He seemed like someone who didn't have much experience with random acts of kindness.
"Thanks." her tone was clipped and her thanks weren't particularly genuine. She could be charming when she liked, but he hadn't given her much reason to be.

| It didn't need to take a genius to fish out the resentment in her voice, possibly one that was cursing the fact he was talking to her right now. If that was the case then... Vivien thought he was looking at his soul mate.
And perhaps someone he could use to get... Junjie off his tail. After that well, kiss, it was painfully obvious what Junjie wanted from him, and he didn't like it, not one bit.
Compared to that, standing in front of a random big breasted pink haired stranger was child's play. And Vivien always took the easy way out.
"So uh... would you go out with me?" There was a breathlessness at the end of his sentence. "I can't promise you anything fancy, I'm but a poor working student, but... I have an apartment with a spare room that's decent... enough? I'll even let you touch my games consoles." He never let people touch his games consoles, but he didn't know what else he had to offer.
So he decided to stare at the coffee he gave her. Perhaps that's gonna end up back in his face. Maybe.

Aster didn't mind talking to people. It was the people themselves she had little patience for. She liked a very particular kind of company that she had yet to find. She didn't talk to people unless she had to, and the blonde didn't seem to be making any real effort to charm her. Her attention flitted away, partially. She had a feeling that there was something more than just handing her a drink.
When he spoke up again, she turned to look at him, lips pressed together in a flat line, a brow quirked in mock surprise. At least she heard him out - then again, she was still working, she had no choice but to stand and listen to him talk.
She considered the offer, and she wasn't quite sure why. Maybe she liked his earnesty more than she'd admit. Maybe she was just bored.
Her fingers drummed against the flimsy plastic of the drink he'd offered. The drink that she'd accepted.
"My shift's done in five minutes." She told him.
"Are you looking for a fuck buddy or a girlfriend?"

| "A girlfriend." He half muttered quickly, not really realising the mistake in his words but finding the idea of a 'fuck buddy' embarrassing. He never even considered the idea before.
"Why, is that a yes that I can't hear?" He placed the bags on the floor for a little while. "Then fine, I'll wait."

He seemed even more childlike when he gave his answer.
Did his answer make any difference to her? She wasn't know to sleep around, but just because she didn't make a habit of it didn't mean it never happened. Didn't mean that she wouldn't have agreed to either.
Aster wasn't sure what to think of him. It was a sort of bravado that she hadn't see before. In the back of her mind, she couldn't help but wonder just how long he'd wait here, but she didn't care to stand around any longer than she had to.
"Okay, take me out." There was a bit of challenge in her voice. Impress me. It was just a date, if he didn't stay as interesting as he seemed now, then that would be the end of it. She felt more like she was humouring him than anything. | @viv |

| He was secretly happy that she had agreed, but he'd never smile or otherwise say it obviously. However, it was caught in the slight wavering of his voice.
"Uh... alright. Well, d'ya mind coming to mine? I could make dinner and we could play video games?" He shrugged, not having much experience with dates. He'd had a few back in Italy where his father could pick up the bills, but here, he had to be careful with every penny and he wasn't going to go broke just to impress a... lady with nice hair.

She noticed the way his words caught a bit, as if he hadn't really expected her to agree. She hadn't expected to agree either, but here they were.
"Sure." Aster brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. It didn't sound too impressive of a first date, but it was something. Better a date with a cute boy than spending the evening sulking at her mother's place.
The guy didn't seem to know what he was doing, as confident as he was pretending to be.
"You never told me your name." She pointed out. She was trying to help him out, though her tone wasn't quite gentle. | @viv |

| His tone returned to his usual settings - the cold, apathetic tone he reserved for no one and offered to everyone.
"Vivien. Vivien de Luca. I'm from Italy." It was the most impressive introduction he'd given himself in a good while, he thought as he ran his hand through his hair and itched the spot at the back of his head absentmindedly. "And you?"

There was something new. Aster had never gone out with an Italian boy. Not one straight from Italy. She'd probably never gone out with anyone so much younger than she was either, though she hesitated to ask his age. She didn't even want to know.
"Aster Gardner. From Nevada." She replied in a tone just as flat. She didn't come from anywhere particularly interesting - not even Vegas.
Frowning, she heaved the sign that she held down, propped it up against a lamppost so she could free up a hand and work her phone from her pocket.
Done. Finally. "So, are we going or not?" | @viv |

| He watched her remove her sign, not asking the question that came up in his mind. (Is it okay to just leave it there?) Because Vivien was more than certain she knew what she was doing.
"Let's go, then." He replied with a tiny nod, evidently not knowing where Nevada was. Probably America, was his best bet.
After that, he began to walk off slowly, heading in the direction of the train station, knowing Aster wouldn't be far behind. Aster, huh? Not a very feminine name.
