Inherited these ways and they came with seven claws Like the terror that remains every morning in the dark And the tethers that you lace only tie you in a knot Don’t fall for all the blame, don’t rely on the applause He hated the quiet. In the penthouse below, canned laughter piped from a sitcom he'd set for background, but that felt miles away, as far away as the dots of people marching like ants below, as far away as the pavement. It was a dizzying height. It was in the middle of things.
If he fell facefirst, would his body still be beautiful? His face, that was a lost cause anyways, but he was still young and skinny and blonde. He wondered if he'd end up in the news. A falling star, a comet.
He pushed himself back from the railing, back from the edge and back from those morbid fantasies. Angel didn't think about death, didn't acknowledge its nails hooked into his skin. He raked his fingers through his hair. Even up here, the air felt heavy and stale.

Laughter bubbled up from the emptiness in the upstairs room, louder than the faint murmur of the noise lifting up from below. The sound grew from a quiet titter to a raucous guffawing. Mocking and childishly cruel, the noise swelled until its echo bounced off ever wall of the quiet penthouse. A pair of eyes appeared in the gloom behind the blond, followed by a face and finally a black clad body. “You’re in denial again.” A discordant voice replaced the laughter, grating on the eardrums and almost penetrating the skull as if it were being projected into the thoughts. "Denying things just like your friend. It’s hilarious how your similar your minds work. He denies knowing what you do when he isn’t home and you deny everything, like how you feel about him and how you want to die right now because you scarred your perfect face. It’s truly amusing.”ANGEL ALESSI

The laughter sounded like something from the TV, before it split off into something louder, sharper, deafening. Angel stumbled back, yelping, almost right into the stranger. He had loved noise, once upon a time, but now he had learned to let the dust settle on his shoulders, to let the silence fill him up.
It felt like all the peace, as much peace as he could have, all the silence and self-pity, was shoved from his lungs when he turned breathless to face the the dark man.
"Get out." He didn't know if this was real, if he'd finally lost his mind, if someone had broken in. But he knew he didn't want to hear any more.

“ You’d like that, wouldn’t you? But where is the fun in that?” Creation looked Angel over, taking in the scar then his thinner, bonier figure and his disheveled hair. “One little scar and you’re completely undone. How fragile. I thought you would be more amusing than this.” Mocking the blonde wasn’t his reason for the visit. His remarks were a test, a way of seeing if there was any fire left in the once arsonist, once prostitute, the now broken and pitiful husk. “What would you give for that scar to disappear from your face?” In his palm, from a whirl of golden light, a fruit appeared. “Do you want to be beautiful again? Then eat this fruit.”ANGEL ALESSI

South Nova, Angel's crowd - he'd seen all sorts of people, his friends and lovers were freaks and criminals. But this man, he made the hair on the back of his neck prickle, made his palms sting when he clenched his fists.
Maybe it was stupid and vain, but it was the truth, that Angel wasn't worth any more than his good looks. Angel had passed through life like a noisy ghost, one that might bang on the walls and move the furniture, but one that faded eventually. He didn't want anyone to see him now, anyone to remember him like this. He had disappeared, and they could think his liver failed or he had been gutted in some motel room, they could think anything as long as they thought he died beautiful.
He watched with narrowed eyes, glancing down as the fruit materialized. It wasn't like any other he'd seen before, but it looked delicious. Ripe and juicy and fresh and sweet and he unclenched his fists and met the stranger's eyes with suspicion. It was funny, almost. Don't take candy from strangers, and certainly not fruit, he remembered. But he'd taken so much more from strangers - why the hesitation?
It flickered a moment, before he reached out and snatched the fruit. It was smooth and heavy in his hand, and he gripped it tightly, feeling its flesh give beneath his fingers. To be beautiful again?
This felt like a dream, this man who knew so much and revealed so little. And if you die in a dream, you wake up in real life, and maybe you wake up fresh-faced and pretty with his arms around you.
The snake and the witch and the goblin is watching him, and Angel bites into his fruit. Angel is long immune to any poison.

He is like the serpent that tempts the unwitting mortal with the forbidden fruit and who watches as everything changes. Their decisions have no effect on him, only themselves as they are robbed of mortality. He gives them a new life, and watches it destroy them. He’s seen it happen more times than he can count, yet he continues to give it out. And they take it, just as Angel does. The change begins almost immediately. He has noticed how differently some experience it. A searing pain, a warm fuzzy feeling—it always starts differently. Creation doesn’t stay long to watch. He fades into the shadows as if he were nothing more than a hallucination. The fruit melts away after the first bite as well. Did he eat it or didn’t he? No one remembers, but they recall that something has changed inside them. Then they realize their new gifts. AS time passes, they discover they no longer age. Time doesn’t move for them anymore. Everything changes. Is it a curse or a gift? ANGEL ALESSI
