She really couldn't go to the police, that was really the whole point. But, by now it was obvious she couldn't find dumb ol' Zeke on her own so here she was, a small girl in front the large door to a small office.
She had called earlier to make an appointment with Mr. A. Holmes, her brother would have liked that name, he tended to like coincidences like that. She? Well, she was more practical with her reasons.
2:59, exactly one minute early, Bennett straightened her clothes a little bit (the one blouse and nice pair of jeans she had), reached up a little and gave the door three solid knocks.

His secretary had informed him that a Miss Lowery would be coming by to see him at three when he came in for the day. It was just another appointment with another client, just like any other day. Ash was sure it would be something petty as well. Everyone on the island had such trivial matters they wanted him to look into. It was no wonder his sister treated his career like a joke. Of course, he did get his share of cases that she might be jealous of but he kept those to himself. What business did she have knowing that? None. Sighing, he cupped his cheek and stared at his computer screen. A minute before three, he heard a knock and perked up. “Come in.” He called out, not bothering to get up. Please be worth my time.BENNETT LOWERY

"Come in."
The girl pushed the door open, quickly taking in her surroundings as she bee-lined to the seat in front of the desk. It was small, but well organized and hell of a lot nicer than her family's run-down, shit-stained excuse of an office.
"Mr. Holmes?" she asked, holding out a small, calloused hand for the man to shake before moving to sit down and place the thin manila folder she brought neatly on her lap.
She needed to be smart about this. Obviously, she wasn't the "typical" employer, Zeke really didn't give her a lot to go on and to add to the pot, her fucking cheapskate parents barely gave her enough to buy groceries let alone a PI. Ugh, how did she always get in these messes?
"I need you to locate my brother."

He lifted his gaze from the crisp white sheets of paper spread out over his desk. The girl who took up the chair on front of him was certainly not what he expected for his 3 o'clock appointment. Was this some kind of joke? He eyed her hand skeptically before taking it for a gentle shake. "Miss Bennett, I assume?" Could his career fall any lower? This was ridiculous. A child was his next client! But his ears perked up when she revealed why she came. He would give her a chance to explain herself. "Your brother? And when did he go missing? Have you reported him as missing to the police?" BENNETT LOWERY

He seemed to take his precious time when it came to shaking her hand and for once in her life, Bennett had to try to fight down nerves. There were most likely other investigators on the island but finding them would take precious time and there would be no guarantee they'd be any different than mr Holmes. She let out an internal sigh when he finally shook her hand, gentler when she expected.
And he did't outright say no either! Good signs, good signs. "My brother," she nodded opening the manila folder to reveal a handful of photos of Ezekiel Lowery, a description of him, transcripts of their last few conversations and a few other small papers. "It's been two months since since I was last able to reach him," she started, talking faster than she expected to "and he stopped withdrawing from our account one month ago." And now came the kicker...well more of the kicker.
"I uh," she bit her lower lip a little "actually haven't contacted the police, I don't want to get our parents involved..." She finished with a nervous, embarrassed and half hopeful smile.

He listened to her talk, unsure of wether this was some practical joke or not. The girl seemed serious enough. Even the contents of her folder seemed legitimate. "Do you have the bank statements up until he stopped withdrawing money from your account?" If he decided to take the case, the bank statement was a good lead. His eyebrow raised. "Where are your parents?" The question had been on his mind for a while. If this was some joke, he would like to know how to contact her parents. Something about her demeanor suggested she was serious though. His instinct wasn't often wrong. BENNETT LOWERY

Well he didn't throw her out yet, so Bennett assumed she was doing something right. "No but I can get them," she nodded "we share an account so I've been using it too." But in retrospect she guessed it would be pretty easy to subtract what she was using.
"My parents?" she started, "Well, we um recently ran into a bit of money and they took a two year cruise." Truth be told, though she wasn't fond of snitching and really didn't want to interrupt their well-earned vacation..."I'm more worried about child services" Leaving your fourteen year old daughter alone under care of a now-missing twenty four year old really didn't look the best on paper.

The detective merely listened as she supplied him with answers to his questions. By the time she finished, he had an idea of what he was dealing with. He dropped his forehead into the palm of his hand, hair spilling through the gaps in his fingers. Ash couldn’t believe what he was hearing. What irresponsible parents this young lady had. “Get me the bank records.” He didn’t want to get involved. He was intrigued however. He didn’t often get cases like this, and it seemed real enough as well. “I’ll take your case.” Ash hoped he wouldn’t regret this decision like he did most others. “Do you have a place to stay? I assume you aren’t from this island.” BENNETT LOWERY

His head fell into his palm and Ben made a nervous grimacing face and somehow found herself feeling defensive against the detective's judgement. It wasn't like she and Zeke couldn't take care of themselves, they were fine until he got it in his brain that he could get away with traveling here...
She opened her mouth, about to voice her protests when Holmes told her to get the bank records. Wait, this meant, "I'll take your case"
"Oh thank god". Bennett found herself sighing in relief as she slumped back against the chair. A detective was found, her brother had to follow suit soon, it couldn't be that hard to find him, could it?
Holmes' question was unexpected and Ben bit her lip. I uh...I've been managing." she said, not really falling into the specifics. She was a customer, after all, not a charity act.
