It wasn’t often that the young detective ran into old acquaintances, especially not ones he had worked with before. He picked at his spinach and artichoke grilled cheese as he considered his encounters with the woman he planned to meet. He had several cases where he was privileged to work with her and her partner. As a detective, he only helped them by giving them as much information and evidence as he could. It was hardly anything exciting. Nevertheless, he remembered her fondly. He looked up from the golden, flaky sandwich on his plate. Would she be arriving soon? DESIDERIA JONES

She hadn't seen Ashton since before her partner had died, and since she wasn't really looking forwards to seeing someone that had known them both, she couldn't help but be happy about seeing the Ashton. He was nice enough, if you didn't comment on his height, And Desideria wasn't one that normally judged someone by something like that. She wasn't tall herself, and she normally never wore heels, so Ashton was a perfect height for her to associate with.
A sigh escaped her lips before she moved into the cafe, spotting the detective easily and wandering over to him, her collar of her jacket pulled up in case someone that knew "Maria Finley" came around. She didn't want to put Ashton in jeopardy. That was something she couldn't do again. A shiver passed over her before she took her seat. "Long time, no see Ash" She said with a soft smile, her voice just as quiet.

Height was a sensitive issue with the tiny detective. Desideria had been one of the few who hadn’t poked fun at him. She was a respectable woman, who he enjoyed working with. It was great to see her again after so long. Ash set the sandwich down on his plate and cleaned his hands on a napkin. “Desideria, it’s been too long. How have you been?”DESIDERIA JONES

"I hope you haven't been waiting long" Desideria said as she sat down, taking a sip from the glass of water already set up at her spot. Her gaze moved around the small cafe before resting on her companion. Ashton had always been one of the few she trusted in the department, and one of the few that actually knew how deep her and her partner had gone into the Martinelli family. Her arms rested on her lap as she once more averted her gaze from Ash. It wasn't that she didn't want to look at him, but since the accident, she'd been on edge around everyone, like the department was still evaluating her. She glanced down at her hand, pulling off the ring that she wore while under the guise of "Maria" and dropped it into her pocket.
She smiled softly, a bit hesitantly. She'd been avoiding Ashton since she got back, simply because of the closeness he had with her former partner, the fact that he wasn't around anymore, and that it was partly her fault, wasn't something she wanted to talk about. So when he asked how she was, she shrugged slightly. "I've had my better months" She commented simply, trying to give a convincing smile that she really was alright. ASHTON HOLMES

Ashton had been too busy dealing the idiocy of people to really notice that Desideria had been avoiding him. For all he knew, she just hadn’t had the time to come by the agency to pay him a visit. Nevertheless, he missed the work they did together. It was much better than following wealthy people’s spouses to catch them cheating. His time was worth more than those petty investigations paid. The brunet almost sighed, but managed to suppress it. “I wasn’t.” He answer, glad for the distraction in her presence. Something seemed to be troubling her though. His pick up her anxiety from her wondering gaze. It was like she was looking around for someone, but at the same time she couldn’t bear to look at him. “It looks like it. You seem troubled. Want to get it off your chest?”DESIDERIA JONES

Desideria smiled at her friend, If it was anyone else, she'd stay professional, but Ashton had been one of the people that her and her former partner had hung around with. The first person she'd talk to when she returned had been Ashton. Funny how most people under estimated a person like him, someone as short as he was. But Desi never judged him, she knew him for a good person.
Her eyes had wandered away for longer than she wanted, and she almost missed what he said. She blinked for a moment, before clearing her thoughts. "I'm always troubled. I always think of what I might have been able to do for Tony if I had just been in the right spot, and not snooping around" She said, with a flinch at the end. It was still rather painful to talk about.

Her partner's death still haunted her. As much he would have loves to ease her suffering, he couldn't reveal the truth to her. It would ruin Tony's cover. Ashton hated lying though, even if it was for the greater good. "Its no use beating yourself up over things you can't control." He reached out, placing his hand lightly atop hers. "Have something to drink. They have a really good selection of teas." How he wished he could tell her. "We have much to catch up on." DESIDERIA JONES

Desideria hadn't been a tea drinker, until she started working at the department, that's when Ashton got a hold of her, and started showing her how teas could help some of the stress she had in her life go away for a time. She smiled at his words, shrugging her shoulders. "I guess I'm coping worse than I let on" The raven-haired woman said as she glanced down at the menu. Of course, this was one of the best places for tea, she was sure that was the reason her friend had picked this place.
When the waitress came back the second time around, Desideria ordered an herbal blend of tea, and a side of honey. Whenever they put the honey in, there was either too much or too little to her liking, so putting it in herself was always the better choice. She smiled at the waitress, before turning her eyes back towards Ashton. "So tell me, how much have I missed while I was away?" She questioned him, toying with the ring on her left hand. She glanced down at it before sliding it under the table, then slipping it off. She wasn't posing as Maria Finley right now, this was her true self, Desideria Jones. She did, in fact, have a ring that she could wear there every other day, but that was located on a chain around her neck, the last object she had of her lost partner.

“Nothing gets past my eye,” he remarked with a light smirk gracing his thin lips. He unfolded the laminated menu laid off to the side of the silverware. Ash already knew what he wanted, but he didn’t mind taking another glance at what they had to offer in case there was something else that caught his eye. There was nothing. Ordering their spiced masala chai blend and a crepe, he handed over his menu to the waitress and turned his attention back to Desideria. “Not much, really. It has been fairly dull as of late.” He cupped his cheek in his hand, balancing his elbow in the table. “And what have you been up to?”DESIDERIA JONES

She wasn't overly hungry (or hungry at all, to be honest) so when the waitress return, she simply ordered a salad, handing the menu over. Desideria knew that Ashton kept an eye on her. On top of her and her partner being close, Ash had been a longer friend to her partner than she had. There was no surprise that he might be keeping secrets from her. "You guys always watched too intently. But It's nothing I can't manage, I promise. I have two pesky siblings to watch over, anyways" The raven-haired woman said, laughing softly.
"You know the mafia case I've been following for months? I've gotten myself married to one of them. I'm sure he's rolling in his grave about it she didn't need to specify who she was talking about. Her friend knew better than anyone. "I also have a new partner, if you haven't heard about that" She shrugged slightly, toying with the glass of water in front of her. ASHTON HOLMES
