If Harper's honest, he'll admit - as he absent-mindedly draws little shapes on the kid's colouring page he requested from the waiter - that he remembers nothing about the movie he just saw with Jamie. It's not as if he spent the entire movie watching Jamie like it happens in cliché romance movies, he just couldn't focus solely on the movie. He's a little sad, he has to admit because he was actually sort of looking forward to seeing it, but he figures he'll just see it another time. Without Jamie, probably.
He glances down at the colour page before scribbling out the shapes he's drawn before anyone else can see them. He then looks at Jamie and smiles a bit awkwardly. "Uh, what did you think of the movie," he asks before turning his attention to the menu. The adult one, not the kids' one mind you. By the time the movie is finished, it's dark out, and the car ride is another silent one. Jamie isn't sure if either of them really paid attention to the movie - the past hours they've been sitting in the theater don't quite register in mind, and neither does the fact that they're on a date.
Then they pull up to the restaurant. It's an expensive one, but there isn't much need to bother with 'you shouldn't have's when Jamie knows even such a pricey reservation must be nothing for Harper. Still, he can't believe that Harper took this date so seriously - or maybe not, he thinks as he sits across from him watching him scribbling on the kids menu. Jamie's hands are folded in his lap, and he's staring down at the tablecloth's pattern, watching them ripple.
He glances up with a start when Harper speaks up. Jamie stares back at him in silence for a few seconds. His mind is blank. He sees Harper picking up his menu and does the same, scrambling with shaking fingers to pull it open in front of him, eyes flickering between the shifting letters and Harper's face a few times before they come to rest on the latter. "It was good." He says noncommittally.

Harper nods, agreeing with Jamie's statement despite not knowing if it's true or not. His eyes scan across the menu, but he already knows what he's going to eat. He's eaten here before, a few times really. It's the only reason he'd take Jamie here, he wouldn't take him to a place he doesn't know after all. That'd be dumb in his opinion.
He glances up from his menu to Jamie before glancing back down. "Do... do you know what you want to um, order?" [newclass=.h-tags]width: 300px; border-bottom: 1px solid #f56c04; text-align: left;[/newclass][newclass=.h-tags a]color: #f56c04; font: italic 15px georgia;[/newclass]

He's made nervous by the question. Looking at the menu again, he isn't sure how to tell Harper about the jumbled letters that seemed to dart across the page, always just on the corners of where he focused. That the menu is alive and it won't let itself be read.
He shuts it and looks up to Harper, across the table. "Do you know what's good?" He asks hopefully, opening the menu again in hopes it is better behaved now.

"The better question would be what's not." The words and the confident tone slip out before Harper realises he's said it. It's not a lie though, most of the things on the menu are good. There are a few things that aren't so great, but mainly because they don't fit Harper's tastes. He's not really a fan of fish.
"But... uh, the soups are really good, and uh, the steaks are pretty good as well...?" Harper doesn't know what Jamie likes, so he's going off of his tastes. He favours their soups over anything though, he has a thing for good soup. There's also the fact he chews really slowly and soup minimizes the chewing factor, but that's a story for another day he guesses. They're underdressed and well under the age of the rest of the clientele, but Jamie doesn't mind. He's more concerned with Harper than anything around them. He's never been on a date though, and he's not quite sure how things are meant to go. All the dining etiquette he'd been taught seemed to have dissipated as soon as he took his seat. At least he keeps his elbows off the table. He rubs at his eyes, nodding along and squinting down at the menu. Still blurry. Reaching for his water, hoping the cold will wake him up, make him more of a functioning human being because Harper deserves at least that much. He needs a refill. He really needs a drink. His throat is suddenly a desert and he'll die, he can't stand to wait for a refill. "Um, can I..." He mumbles, reaching for Harper's glass. HARPER PHOENIX

"Uh..." Harper hesitates, he doesn't know why but he does. "...Y-yeah sure, that's, uh, fine."
Harper's eyes glance up from the menu towards Jamie and then back again. He's not looking at anything on the menu specifically, but he's keeping his eyes distracted so he doesn't just stare at Jamie the whole date. He glances around for a waiter, but doesn't see one. He glances back at Jamie, "H-have you decided what you'd like to eat? O-or, um, should I just order for you...?" Swallowing down water like he hasn't drunk in weeks, Jamie avoids Harper's eyes as he sets the glass back down, on the table between them. He isn't sure if he should put it back on Harper's side of the table, or it might be rude to keep it on his own. Something in the back of his mind reminds him they've already kissed, sharing drinks shouldn't unsettle him the way it does.
There's a rush of relief, and Jamie nearly slams the menu shut, nodding. "You can order. For me." His gaze flickers to Harper and the corners of his lips twitch upwards, faintly, fleetingly.

Harper smiles a bit when Jamie says he can order for him. He figures he'll just get them both soup. The soups here are good, better than good in Harper's opinion. They're filling and hearty and are far from plain like most soups are. Or at least, out of the soups he's had. He waves over a waiter and orders for them, the waiter takes the menus from them and walks off once Harper's done.
He turns back to Jamie and realises that he's got nothing to say. He fidgets for a moment before attempting to start the conversation again. "So um, uh..." He trails off like he had something to say, he's at a loss for words so his brain kicks in and he does what Harper does best.
Embarrass himself. "The alphabet has twenty-one letters... right?" He pauses for a beat before answering his own question while red in the cheeks. "Wait no, sorry, I forgot U, R, A, Q, T." He forces a smile, but doesn't apologise because half of that was said knowingly. He still feel embarassed it was so random and out of place, but he figures it's allowed right? Or maybe he should've just told Jamie he looked cute, he feels like it would've ended up badly either way.

Jamie slips the menu onto the table and his hands slide into his lap. He looks down as Harper orders, fingering the table cloth. When the waiter is gone, Jamie finally raises his head, nods in thanks to Harper.
He stares for a moment before realization hits him, slowly as it often is. He meets Harper's eyes and he smiles. Harper says his pick up lines to everyone, but it sounds different this time, not quite so sheepish. More earnest, and he doesn't scramble to take back his words. Jamie's grown used to them, but he still feels a bit of colour rising to his cheeks.
Jamie clears his throat nervously. "Thanks."
