facing worlds that I've never seen @theia / ♬ queens Jenny had been to the book store before, various times, but never thought that it could actually benefit her work, until one of the workers there approached her. It was a shock. She'd actually been asked to write an article without having to work her ass off, desperately looking for someone who would agree to an interview. Theia, who had asked her, was more of an acquaintance than anything, but Jenny liked her a lot more already. She'd gotten her a lead.
"Shit. Nope-" Jenny's thoughts were interrupted and she cursed more at her car, which had lurched forwards and nearly smashed into someone's fancy BMW in the spot in front of her. She put it into park and shut it off, the entire machine sighing in apparent relief. Most of the money from her articles nowawadays were going towards a nicer car - one that preferably wasn't from 1989.
Getting out, her gaze fell onto the familiar building that held the book store, and she headed to the door, journal and pen tucked under one arm. She'd been told Theia would be in today, but it wouldn't hurt to walk around and jot down some notes about the place, anyway. It was certainly cute. Cozy, Jenny thought to herself, briefly holding the door open for a customer who was leaving before stepping inside.
She walked to the counter first, and paused, glancing around. She didn't see anyone yet.
"Uh... Theia? Are you here?" she called, casting a brief smile to a man nearby who looked at her over his shoulder.

Theia had been a busybody around the store all afternoon, taking turns between looking out the windows and working near the back isles. Asking Jenny to do the article had taken some courage, but was made easier because of the girl's friendly disposition. Since coming in, she'd almost become a workaholic to get her mind off of how nervous she was. But there was no missing Jenny's voice from the front, and Theia hurried from the back to greet the other woman.
"I'm here!" Theia called, coming around and corner and putting on a smile. It wasn't an effort, though. Jenny was easy to put on a smile for, and Theia wanted to make a good impression. "You're here for the article, right?"

facing worlds that I've never seen @theia / ♬ queens Jenny glanced to the side as she heard Theia's voice, and smiled back at the girl.
"Yep," she replied, lifting up her journal and pen. "Are you good for chatting now? If you have something to take care of, I can look around first." She'd been in the store at least a couple times before to buy books or gifts, but never on the job, and for an article like this she would need a better idea of what the place really looked like. Jenny glanced around her, still smiling. It really was a cute store.
"Otherwise though, I mean, if you're good to go, so am I!" she finally added, looking back to Theia. It was refreshing to interview someone like her, someone young, relatively easy-going, normal. Definitely a welcome relief from the businessmen or cocky band members.

"Oh no, I can talk now." Theia replied. "We can walk and talk if you want." Theia was more than a little nervous; she'd been sprucing up the store bit by bit today, between working and stocking in the back. Heaven knew that they needed the customers that the article could bring in, and she didn't want the place being dusty everywhere.
"Um, do you have any questions for me?" She asked. She wasn't completely sure how to act during interviews like, these. But then again, Jenny did, and then she mentally chided herself. Theia didn't need to ask questions; of course Jenny was going to.

facing worlds that I've never seen @theia / ♬ queens "Great!" Jenny replied with an eager smile, taking a couple steps further into the store, before looking down at her clipboard.
"Just a few..." she muttered, flipping through pages and then finally finding the set of questions she wanted. It wasn't like she could follow them to a T - an interview had to feel more like a conversation than anything - but it was a general skeleton for her to follow, a few key facts she knew she wanted to get. She glanced back at Theia.
"Do you know how long the store has been here? And how long have you been working here?" she asked, peering back at her clipboard momentarily. It would be pretty hard to make this place sound bad, unless of course Theia happened to trash the place, which Jenny highly doubted, considering she was the one who asked for the interview. Speaking of which... "Oh, and is there an owner? How long have they owned it; did they start it?"

Theia matched Jenny's pace, folding her hands in front of her. She waited patiently for Jenny while the redhead flipped through her notebook, musing about what kind of questions she'd be asked.
"I'm pretty sure that it's been here as long as I can remember," She searched the cobwebs of her brain for more information. "I remember seeing it as a kid. I've been working here since I've been out of high school... which might be about a year and a half." Remembering her first weeks at the bookstore as a new, awkward employee made her shudder. "The owner is a sweet man. He's older, and he's had it for a long time. One of his parents owned it before him, I'm sure."

facing worlds that I've never seen @theia / ♬ queens "Oh wow," Jenny replied as she listened, nodding as she jotted down a sum-up of what Theia had just told her. "It's been here for a long time, then. That's so sweet." She couldn't help but smile when she took another look around. There was something impressive about a long-lasting book store, especially among the big-box book stores that popped up everywhere. It was really a part of the community on Nova.
"I guess you guys have a lot of loyal customers, then?" she asked, thinking that it was a relevant transition to make. If it had been here for a while then it only made sense that some people would stick to it, but at the same time, it wan't easy to keep a store going. It wouldn't take much for a tiny bookstore to go bankrupt, but if they had return customers that would be one thing keeping them afloat.

"It really is," she agreed. The bookstore was a little corner of Nova that hadn't changed in the time that Theia had lived here. She was very thankful that it was still standing.
"We do." She nodded. Taking a brief look among the shelves revealed some of their said customers, and Theia gave a little wave as she met eye contact with them. "They come around pretty often, and some of them bring their kids. It's not quite a family, but everyone knows each other pretty well." And hopefully the kids would continue to come in as they got older. Theia would surely still be around to see it.

facing worlds that I've never seen @theia / ♬ queens Jenny watched Theia as she greeted a customer, noticing the smiles on their faces as she listened to what the part-timer had to say. I need to come here more often. She was a writer, after all; no good writer came from someone who never read, and just because she was a journalist... well, that was a lame excuse. Jenny scribbled down "loyal customer base" with a little crappy smiley face, and then paused. There was nothing left on her clipboard, but she knew there had to be more that she'd meant to write down, and had forgotten.
"How has it been competing with bigger companies?" Jenny asked, thinking fast. "And what do you think? I mean, personally I like stores like this loads more," she admitted with a smile. "It's got character. That's what books are all about, right?"

Theia held back a sigh as Jenny rang off the first of a new set of questions. She didn’t like this question particularly well. The store wasn’t doing good as of late—that’d pretty much been the whole reason she’d invited Jenny to do the article. ”...It’s holding its own.” She worded carefully. ”I like to think that we have an advantage considering a recurring group of customers.” They could just barely hold a candle.
She smiled at Jenny’s comment. ”Yes, it certainly does. Maybe I’m biased, but I like more reclusive ones like this. I’ve found that it’s a lot quieter than some of the bigger ones.” Never mind the size, but it was easy to find a comfortable spot to read.

facing worlds that I've never seen @theia / ♬ queens "Oh wow. I suppose that makes sense," she replied, though Theia hadn't said that the store was particularly thriving, either. The recurring customers were probably their last hope at this point, but at least, as far as Jenny knew, they weren't doing too badly.
"Yeah, I totally understand," she added, finally finishing jotting down what Theia had said. "I agree. It's just so cute." And it really was. A well-taken photograph of this place in the article would probably bring them more business. Something heart-warming about a small store holding it's own among the big-box competitors; people loved that sort of thing. It wasn't like their prices were all that different, either.
"So, I'm thinking of writing something along the lines of like... this little store, doing well despite big competitors, something sort of heartwarming like that. Do you think that would be alright? I want to make sure you're 100% with whatever I'm putting out there," she added. This wasn't necessary, not something a lot of journalists did, but Jenny liked Theia, and she liked the store; input from the girl who worked there couldn't have been bad.
