His fingers were long and calloused, curled around the glass against the humid heat of the air. There was nothing left in it but semi-melted ice and water pooling at the bottom. This was his third drink, and adult sensibility told him he should ease off, at least until his friend arrived. Rockstar ego, however, told him differently.
He wasn't dressed for the heat, and the cicadas were driving him crazy, screaming somewhere in the distance. Salem looked out onto the country club's richly manicured greens, the over saturated flower beds, and it was enough to make him sick.
Salem ordered another, and by the time he heard the approaching footsteps, had his fourth drink set out in front of him by the bartender, along with an ash tray for the cigarette he'd just lit up.
"You're late." It was a little rude to be tardy, considering he had been the one to coax Salem out here.

He really wasn't sure what he was thinking, asking his troublemaker of a friend out to the club. Of course, he'd had to take care of another troublemaker in the meantime. once more, his brother had decided to land his ass in a jail cell, and Luca was almost tempted to leave him there. Of course, his fathers wouldn't be thrilled with his choices, and the little snot would just go crying to the two Italian men. There weren't many people Luca was scared of, but his papa and babbo were strong men, and Luca, while he could put up a fight, knew he shouldn't mess with them. There was a reason the two were still happily married.
So, when he entered the club, and the blast of hot air and alcohol hit him, the man shook his head. He hated these places, but rather he'd like to have met Salem in a public place than anything. Plus, his own home was trashed since his darling little brother trashed the place. He let out a slow breath, ruffling his blonde locks before he turned his attention around. It was easy to spot the man he'd grown up beside, though he hated to see him having what appeared to be another drink Gods knew how many drinks he'd had before Luca's arrival.
And the first words out of his mouth has the blonde rolling his eyes. "You try living with an asshole of a brother who can't stay out of a cell for one night. It's amazing he hasn't been incarcerated" He said, sitting down. He ordered himself a drink, nothing too strong, and sat back. Eyes narrowed down slightly as he glanced over his old friend. "How many have you had already? You look terrible"

Salem tapped the ashes from his cigarette, fixing Luca with a look that got across what he didn't need to say aloud - do you know how much my time is worth? Not that he had anywhere else to be - he'd be smoking and drinking anyways, just in the privacy of his own home.
He chuckled - he found Luca's infamous brother was more entertaining than anything, hearing about him as a third party. "He can't be worse than your clients." A bit of good humour returned to him, probably thanks to the fact he was on his fourth drink.
Taking a sip, he met Luca's eyes unflinchingly, refusing to seem ashamed or offended. He was a big boy, he didn't need anybody to reel him.
"Not enough." He grumbled.

In fact, his brother was probably worse than Salem and the bad, though Luca wasn't going to agree to what his friend said about his brother. The blonde rolled his shoulders back as he leaned back in his seat. His eyes moved towards the cigarette, and he was almost tempted to pull out his own pack. He didn't like smoking, to be honest. His dads would kick his ass if they found out, but it was a better stress relief then wanting to beat up on his friend sitting across from him.
"He is. You guys, I can get rid of. But family is family, and he's my responsibility, I suppose" Luca commented, taking a sip of his drink. The blonde nearly chocked a she realized what he ordered wasn't something that he normally drank. Why the hell had he decided on that. Swallowing painfully, he placed the drink back down, finally succumbing to his need for nicotine. Lighting up the cigarette, he took a puff, letting the smoke slip from his lips before his attention returned to the silver-haired male.
Luca chuckled under his breath after a moment, then shook his head. "Drinking yourself under the table isn't healthy, Salem"

"Like hell I'm letting you get rid of me." Really, Luca was probably the best manager he'd had in the while - and the longest lasting, as of recently. Probably because they'd known each other so long, though it only made Salem slightly more pleasant to work with on Luca's part. Once he was in a bad mood, once he'd made up his mind not even being a friend of his made a difference.
He chuckled, watching Luca sputtering, barely managing to swallow down the drink. In contrast, Salem polished off his own. "Too strong?" He teased. Even Luca's comment wasn't enough to stop Salem pulling the drink towards himself. He shrugged. Everybody had their vices.
"How's quitting going?" He nodded towards the cigarette in Luca's hand with a raised brow and a smirk.

Luca smirked slightly at his comment. Yeah, there was no way he was leaving the band, the still unnamed band he might add. He shook his head slightly, watching as Salem pulled his drink towards himself. He rolled his eyes slightly at Salem. "I really couldn't get rid of you. You're much like a leech, clutching onto me like there's no tomorrow." Luca commented as he rolled his eyes. He leaned back once more in his seat as he took another drag off the cigarette, forcing himself not to choke.
"Not too strong. Just taste like straight plastic" The blonde commented, nodding towards his silver-haired friend as he drank the drink he had ordered. He turned his attention to the pretty waitress as she returned, smiling brightly. He always had a certain charm around woman, that both his fathers were surprised at, considering he never had that much maternal presence. He ordered a softer drink, before looking back towards Salem.
He wanted to jab the cigarette out as soon as Salem spoke. Instead, he shook his head slightly, flicking his ashes in his friend's as tray. "What can I say? You stress me out to the point that smoking is better than beating on you or my precious little brother" Luca replied, holding the cigarette in his mouth as he stretched his arms upwards.

Salem brushed off the comment with a scoff. "That's rich." He said. "I came here to be alone," he indicated the space around them, the island, his hometown. "And you bring the entire gang along after me." He scowled, taking a hearty swallow and placing the glass down, the liquid inside it nearly sloshing out over the sides.
He had come here to escape work and stress, but it had followed him here. He had already made headlines, with blurry pictures of him throwing punches at Lance. Just the memory left a bad taste in his mouth, a disgusted expression on his face.
When the waitress came back, Salem was polishing off Luca's drink, and he motioned for another. He felt the alcohol going straight to his head, fast and hard the way he liked it to.
Salem gave a nod in agreement. He smoked non stop lately - just as much as he drank, though at this point neither seemed to help much with the stress. He blew out a cloud of smoke, thick and slow, watching it roll up towards the ceiling before turning his attention back to Luca.
"So what'd you call me out here for?" Only Luca and booze runs could get him out of his penthouse these days, and this was as a friend, not a manager's orders.

Luca hadn't really be off the Island in a long while, especially with all the trouble his brother had gotten into recently. He rolled his eyes at Salem's comment, shaking his head after a moment. He tilted his head back as he blew a circle of smoke out from between his lips. He really hated smoking. "I didn't bring anyone here. That was your doing. Just remember, I've been here for a long while" He commented.
His eyes watched as Salem ordered another drink from waitress, while taking a drink of his own, sloshing it a bit around as he placed the cup back down. Pale gold eyes moved around the club, picking out the various people that could bother him if they so chose. especially if they knew who he was talking to. Of course, everyone should know by now. Salem Bauer, member of that band. Luca rolled his eyes slightly. He was just glad he was behind the scenes when it came to this whole business.
His brow raised slightly as he heard his friend's comment. "Because people are saying you're dead, buddy. No one's seen your pretty face in ages" He said, smirking slightly at his friend.

Salem knew that things would catch up with him eventually when he'd come back to Nova. But maybe he didn't expect it so soon. Things always seemed to move too quickly these days. One minute he was a hopeful sending in demos and the next he was a star. He didn't feel like a star - the drinks had gone to his head, it was too hot here, he wanted to be home.
He pursed his lips, taking a sip and glancing over his shoulder, wondering if anybody recognized him. If he was going to show up in some tabloid. If him going to a fucking bar would end up in the news. Rumours of something big being planned, a meeting with a manager. "Well, here I am." He surveyed Luca, finding it hard to believe it was that simple a reason.

"And here you are" He commented. Luca's eyes continued to survey the club, trying to spot possible paparazzi. He hated to deal with them, to be honest. But, most would have been shocked to see Salem out and about, actually Luca was shocked that Salem had actually come out, and that was saying something. The blonde stubbed the cigarette he had out, then tucked it back into his packet.
"Some people were thinking you were dead. Honestly, I did too. Haven't heard from you in awhile" The Italian said, rolling his shoulders back as he finished his drink. But unlike Salem, he wasn't going to call for another drink for another few moments, of whenever the waitress came back, which would happen sooner or later. Luca's eyes moved back towards his friend after a moment, moving to fiddle with the straw he didn't use in his drink, the ice cubes clinking around in the glass. @salem

There was a silence, music, distant chatter and laughter slipping between them instead of conversation. Salem sighed - there was nothing going on with him, at least nothing but a crisis the tabloids didn't need to know about. Leave it to them to create news where there wasn't any - they probably had his obituary written, a front page prepared for when it did happen. "I'm not that old yet." It was a joke, but the words sounded heavy and halfhearted.
Salem shrugged, staring into his drink. "Been busy." He grunted.

"As old as I am" Luca retorted as he narrowed his eyes at his friend. He let out a breath, shaking his head a bit. He hated dealing with Salem when he was like this. His friend could be so moody sometimes. "And I feel pretty damn old" The blonde continued. He hoped he could have made it through the rest of this meeting without that other half of the cigarette, but he gave him, opening the carton and lighting up once more.
Luca raised a brow as he rested his elbows on the tables, cupping his chin in the hand that wasn't his cigarette. "Busy being a hermit in your house? Damn, that sounds exciting" He said, flicking the ashes off his stick.

With a sigh, smoke streamed from his nostrils like a dragon, like he had fire in his belly, and his eyes looked ready to spit a stream at Luca. Salem wasn't even thirty, he was still young, but it wouldn't be untrue to say he was still a bit sensitive about his age at times. He figured it was responsibility that aged you, and he'd done very well in avoiding those things. Until now, he supposed. Salem didn't say anything, only staring thoughtfully into the ashtray as he tapped his cigarette.
"A hiatus." He glanced up. "It's a hiatus." He reaffirmed.

Luca shook his head. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. Really, Salem could act like such a kid sometime. "A hiatus doesn't pay the bills. At this point, I might need a another job" He said, a hidden threat in his comment. Sure, he really wouldn't leave being manager. Salem was his oldest friend, there wasn't a reason for him to actually leave. But, he still threatened it every now and again. Luca tapped his cigarette against the ashtray, taking another puff from it.
"By the way, the band has a gig in the next week. So, unless you want to let the rest of the band down, then you better get out of your hiatus."

Salem rolled his eyes, taking a swallow of his drink - he had the bills more than covered - and he only raised a brow at the threat. He had a sort of go ahead see if I care attitude towards the whole thing. He wasn't even sure where he'd find a manager if Luca left - Salem had something of a reputation for being difficult to work with. He needed things his way.
"The rest of the band," He wasn't sure where Luca got off scheduling shit without so much as asking. "Can go fuck themselves."
