| PRIMO COHN ● | 10.30pm. A single tic on the clock immediately followed by the wild patter of tiny feet, including a few complimentary screeches along the floorboards. Valentin listened to this symphony, staring up at the stale ceiling whitewash from his relaxation on an even more ancient bed; it was roll call before he finally went to sleep… Fully dressed, but beginning to feel a creeping yawn, he laid with his hands behind his head before rolling himself up to a perch at the end of the mattress. With folded legs he looked down at the line of tiny tails who looked back up with pairs of button eyes. Using his finger as a guide he quickly counted through the ensemble; One Rabbit Four Gerbils Four Hamsters Three Guinea Pigs Two Rats… Wait two rats? Valentin leapt to his feet and quickly scoured the studio, at first calmly but with gradually rising panic. Percy? Percy!? He found himself repeating with greatening anxiety, little did he know Percy the rat was on an adventure. An adventure of discovery, new friends and perhaps even love as he made his way out of the other end of a lead pipe. This new world was blessed with skimpy human women and garish music; he strolled his way along the skirting board into an area with less potential for being skewered by heels. Percy made himself comfortable underneath a velvet sofa, regarding a performance that he believed master Valentin would enjoy greatly as the human lady slowly took off her clothes. The men sat at tables leered with lascivious grins pasted on their filthy faces, a few with hands in dubious positions; imprudent humans! Did they have no modesty? With a quick little scuttle Percy made his way onto the stage with the wanton woman who for a couple of seconds carried on removing her corset, pirouetting to face away from the audience so she could surprise them with the pair of tails hanging from her chest…however a quick glance down revealed her new stage partner and a piercing scream filled the air; “RAAAAAT!!!! IT’S A RAT!!!!” |
