Stuck in the thoughts
Of an old one's head | As usual, Orion was supposed to babysit tonight. His mom and the lady next door usually spent time together at least once a month, as they had been friends ever since Orion and his mom moved to the apartment building, and as Orion was convenient and trustworthy enough, he was usually stuck babysitting.
He didn't mind, though. He had no siblings of his own, so the little girls who were next door had almost become siblings to him. Besides, Orion actually liked kids. They were fun and a lot more entertaining to talk to versus teenagers or adults, who were already so disenchanted with life.
So he made his way over to the neighboring apartment, locking his own on the way out and knocked gently on the next door over before walking inside, glancing around.
"Ellie?" he called out into the quiet apartment. Maybe she and her sister were taking a nap.

Mama had left to take Emmie to something important that Ellie didn't listen to, and left Ellie home alone. Ellie knew that Orion was coming over, and her mama had only left a couple of minutes ago, but she was still a little scared. She heard the door open and she peaked out of her room to see if it was a stranger. A smile broke out on her face when she saw Orion and she ran towards him, going to jump into his arms. "Orion!"

Of an old one's head | He couldn't help but break out in a grin when the pigtailed girl rounded the corner and ran towards him. Ellie truly was like a little sister to him, and that's mostly what made babysitting duty so much fun.
"Hey there, Ell," he said, catching her as she ran towards him. Lifting her up in the air (which was getting more difficult the older she got) he hugged the girl tightly in his arms.
Everything with school and life had just been so busy for a while, it seems like he hadn't spent any quality time with his "sister." Patting her back gently and still smiling, he looked up at the little girl's happy face.
"What do you wanna do? Watch movies, play a game?"

Ellie giggles when Orion lifts her up and she hugs him back tightly. She tilts her head, thinking of what she wants to do. "Umm..." Ellie doesn't know what she wants to do really. "W-well, I don't know... do you have any ideas...?"

Of an old one's head | Ellie didn't know what she wanted to do, but that was okay. They would figure out what to do, or else they would certainly be pretty bored for the next few hours. He was sure they would have fun, though, as they always did.
"Hmmm, well, we could maybe watch a movie later, how about a game?" he suggested. "We could play Apples to Apples or get one of those puzzle books. Then maybe I could make dinner? By the way, do you know what you want for that yet?"
Smirking a little, he carried her to the table and set her down in a chair. If she didn't know what she wanted to do for an activity, she probably didn't have an idea of what she wanted for dinner, but he had to make sure after all.

"Oooh! Can we play Candyland instead of Apples to Apples? Can we, pleeeease?" Ellie loveed Candyland, it's probably her favourite board game of all time if she really thought about it. Honestly, Ellie hadn't even thought about food. "Umm, I don't know what I want to eat for dinner... sorry." Ellie felt a little bad because she didn't have anything picked, she usually has an idea as to what she wants to do, but today she doesn't.

Of an old one's head | "Of course," he said. "And don't worry about dinner yet. You've got plenty of time to get hungry and think about what you want."
With a smile and a slight ruffle of the girl's hair, Orion headed to the cabinet where the board games were kept, a spot he knew well. The pair of them had played plenty of board games during these babysitting adventures, and at least every box in the cabinet had been opened at least once.
Grabbing the slightly faded pastel box he brought it to the table and set up the game pieces carefully, glancing up at Ellie with a smile.
"What color game piece do you want?"

 Ellie smiles, "Okay then!"
She's glad that Orion is so nice, then again, she doesn't think her mama would really leave her with someone mean.
Or maybe she would? Ellie isn't too sure, but she shakes the thought from her head when Orion asks her what piece she'd like. "Umm, I wanna be blue," she says, pointing at the piece. "Unless you wanna be blue, then I can be green!"

Of an old one's head | Orion chuckled a bit when she enthusiastically picked her game piece. The girl was always thinking of others, it seemed. Even though she wanted blue, she'd be willing to give it up if he wanted the same color. Sometimes Orion wished more people could act like the way children did, especially in these aspects, instead of fighting over petty things.
"You can have blue, Ellie," he said with a nod as he grabbed the green piece and placed it on the starting square. "Besides, I like green. It's a good color. So's blue, though, but blue seems to be your color."
While Ellie got her game piece set up at the starting position, he grabbed the cards and shuffled them, setting them down in the appropriate place and settled back, making sure everything was set up before they began.
"You can go first," he offered, nodding towards the pile of cards with a smile.
