Cozy is not what many would call the apartment buildings in this side of the city. Most were full of nearly rotted wood and sketchy tenants. But after living there long enough it did become an atmosphere one could enjoy. The slightly discolored walls and probably-not-up-to-code stairs gave off a vibe that one simply couldn't get in a pristine suburb house. Growing up in a traditional commune, Sajjad would take living here over nearly anywhere else in Nova Athenis. Well, maybe not. The small quarters were nice at times and frustrating at others. And... yeah those stairs actually sucked. A lot. Specially today. Sajjad was coming back from the laundromat, clothes stacked in her bin very nicely, and her last obstacle was the stairs. Luckily, the laundromat itself was nearby, but it didn't mean much when her bin hardly fit inside the stairwell. Her options were to either heave it in front of her, or drag it behind and hope her feet stayed out of the way. The latter was usually the lesser of two evils, and so she choose that method once again. Sajjad had on her usual attire: full habit and mask, but she wasn't planning on doing her prayers today, so she wore much less bright ones. Muted brown and yellow, with simple shirt and slacks. She still got looks, sure, but to her it was what she put on when she felt lazy and like ordering pizza for all three meals instead of cooking or going out. And she certainly didn't feel like lugging these clothes up the stairs. Looking up the flight of stairs, she grimaced still half standing out by the curb. Well, thinking about everything else she could be doing wasn't going to improve the situation, so she gripped the side of the bin tight and started the staggered journey up. Somewhere along the line, Sajjad's mind drifted to the thought of ordering pizza once again, and it was just enough to make her miss one of the short steps and loose her footing. While she was able to catch herself, the bin wasn't quite so lucky and her once-clean clothes were spread from the doorway to the sidewalk. "... you have got to be kidding me." |
