Garland looped along the ceiling with ornaments set in place at ever interval. Tinsel coiled and glittered with iridescent hues around the railings. Nevada was working on hanging the stockings by the fireplace while Christmas music filled the penthouse. He had yet to get the perfect tree, though he knew exactly where he’d put it. Once he had his tree, everything would be perfect. The only problem was getting Angel to go with him to get it.
The prospect of a Christmas spent with another person made Nevada absolutely giddy. He could hardly contain his mirth. His calm demeanor belied his excitement however, all but the soft smile that curled on his lips as he hung up each decoration. The white-and-teal haired man looked up when he heard the door swing open. “Welcome home Angel.” He greeted then went back to work on adjusting the stockings. They had to hang just right over the mantle. | [attr="class","appls"] romance |

Angel would have never taken Nevada as somebody who would be very interested in celebrating the holidays. As it turned out, he was all too interested in festivities.
Since Angel had stopped working, his schedule was irregular – sometimes he stayed up all night out drinking and clubbing, sometimes he slept nights and went shopping during the day. Today was one of the latter days.
Christmas music wafted through the penthouse as Angel kicked off his shoes and dropped his shopping bags by the door. He wrinkled his nose – he had never really been too enthusiastic about Christmas. The parties, maybe, but mostly he remembered cheap presents under their crappy plastic tree strung with popped lights.
But Nevada had gone all out – no tree yet, he wanted to choose one together while Angel could have cared less. Nevada had even baked cookies, set out neatly on a plate in the kitchen, and Angel grabbed one as he headed over to the living room to examine the new additions to the décor.
"You know nobody's gonna even see all this." He noted as he saw all that Nevada had done – he didn't like guests, this seemed like a lot of work for nothing, even if Nevada didn't seem to have anything better to do.

Holidays were once unhappy occasions for the white-and-teal haired man, not because he hated the holiday the way Angel seemed to. No, Nevada’s reasons were much different, in fact, they fascinated him. From what he saw on TV and read in books, there was something warm, something magical about them. He longed to experience those same things he saw captured on film and paper. But he never did nor did he ever think he would. Things were different now.
Now Nevada had Angel and, while their relation was far from what he wanted, it was close enough to something so why not have a real Christmas with him? Angel wasn’t for it though. He just continued on as he did any other month. “No one else has to see but us.” He muttered. “You do not always decorate to appeal to others. You do so for your own sake.” Angel wouldn’t understand. He never did. Was he even capable of understanding anything about him?

Angel shrugged - maybe for Nevada. For him, well, if he wasn't pretty then what did he have? What interest did anyone have in him? What interest would Nevada have in him? But he didn't bring it up, if only because he was too busy polishing off the cookie. At least he could appreciate his boyfriend's holiday baking, if nothing else.
He still didn't see the big deal about the holidays. Sure he had Nevada now and that meant there wouldn't be any barren tree and shoddy newswrapped gifts, but he didn't need a special occasion for extravagant gifts. Clothes, jewels, drinks, anything Angel wanted he could have, any time he wanted it.
"Still seems like a lot of work to only keep up for a month." And Nev had gone all out on this. Angel's tone made it clear he had no intention on helping with anything - not that it needed to be said.

Nevada almost rolled his eyes in reply to Angel’s comment. He would be the one to prove the downer to his holiday cheer. All he wanted was to bring in the spirit of the holiday into the apartment. “Christmas occurs once a year. I wish to celebrate it properly.” He replied. “I do not understand your reluctance to celebrate it with me.” Angel received everything he wanted all year long but getting gifts on Christmas was an entirely different thing. There was more meaning to it.
“I am certain your mood will improve once you accompany me to pick out a tree.” Decorating a tree they both picked out together had to be the cure for Angel’s sour mood. He would start to get into the holiday then, wouldn’t he? “We can go tomorrow if you like. And we can have hot cocoa afterwards while we site by the fire.” He would make Christmas cookies for them to have with their cocoa too. It would be perfect. Angel just had to give in to his wishes this once.

Angel let his gaze drift from Nevada, adjusting the stockings hung by the fireplace - of course he'd want to drink hot chocolate by the fireplace. Angel was ready to point out that they didn't even have winter, that there was no reason to even have a fireplace or hot chocolate in this weather.
But he was a little distracted.
The floor to ceiling windows that made the penthouse bright had a view of the city and the wide blue skies above it. Angel had to squint to make them out, the white flakes that fell in slow, spinning paths downward.
"Holy shit," he wasn't even pretending to pay attention to Nevada anymore, he was dashing over to the window. "It's snowing." He announced with thinly veiled excitement. In all eighteen years he'd lived on Nova Athenis, he'd never seen it snow before.

The white-and-teal haired man paused in his task to glance towards the window. It really was snowing! Snow was nothing new to Nevada; however, he was still fascinated by it all the same, though probably not as much as Angel was. He smiled softly, watching the excited reaction of his housemate. “Would you like to go out in it?” Although the question of how it was snowing on an island famous for its tropical climate nagged him, he ignored it. Who cared?
“Is this the first time you have seen snow? It is quite beautiful, right?” Maybe snow would be the thing to get Angel into the mood for Christmas. Nothing else had worked so far. Nevada wanted the perfect Christmas with the one he loved, regardless of anything else. “Let us go out and enjoy this miracle of nature.” He held out a hand to Angel, not quite sure if he would actually accept. This was Angel after all. Nothing was ever easy with him.

His hands were pressed up against the glass, his eyes picking a flake and following its swirling path down until it fell out of sight, then finding a new one.
He nodded. He'd always seen it in the movies, the way it was supposed to be. It was never cold enough for snow on Nova, but by some miracle it was snowing. Angel tore his eyes from outside to see Nevada - it probably wasn't a big deal for him, though he smiled at the sight of it.
As much as he liked to spite and disobey Nevada, he was too giddy to refuse.
"You think there'll be a lot?" He said excitedly, grabbing Nevada's hand and just about pulling him towards the door. Enough for snowmen and snowballs and snow banks? Enough for him to do all the cool things?

Angel looked like a child staring through a candy shop’s window at all the sugary treats inside. He couldn’t see the look of wonder on his face, yet it could imagine it well enough. Those small things that Angel did were what really got him. Not the spiteful things, but those simple, almost childlike things. He was absolutely fascinated by him in every way, and utterly in love. “Yes. It is picking up. It may snow all day and well into the night.”
He followed his blonde housemate without any resistance, thoroughly absorbed in the moment. Nevada was already in a good mood from the approaching holiday and now it was brightened by Angel. Playing in the snow, while childish and not something he would do any other time, made his heart flutter. He could spend time with Angel without the attitude. It really would be a good Christmas. “Would you like gloves? I may have some in the penthouse?”

Angel hoped there would be plenty of snow - the entire city would probably be shut down, nobody had seen any snow coming. He ignored Nevada's question, more excited by the prospect to waking up to mountains of snow.
Maybe he underestimated just how cold it had to be for snow, because the last thing on his mind was dressing appropriately - he slipped on a pair of shoes, at least. He just dragged Nevada along into the elevator, rushing through the building's lobby and out onto the street, where he stopped in his tracks.
Goosebumps raised on his bare arms from the chill in the air, but he didn't seem to notice. His face upturned to watch it snow, his hand still gripping Nevada's, swinging back and forth absently. He shivered as the flakes fell, little drops of cold onto his skin. It was unreal, that it would ever snow here of all places. "Woah."

Angel’s excitement was bubbling over like a science fair volcano. He seemed ignorant of the cold that had seized hold over the entire island despite its usual tropical climate. It had permeated the entire building in a matter of seconds. This intrigued Nevada a bit, however, he could hardly think of anything but Angel as they rode down the elevator. Snow made Angel happy so he was okay with it snowing no matter how little sense it made.
The moment the elevator reached the ground floor, they were on the move again. Angel held his hand even once they stepped outside and the snow entranced the blonde in its swirling splendor. “It is beautiful.” Nevada mumbled, taking in the surrounds that had been painted white by the snowfall. He had seen snow before, but it always fascinated him. Nevada was suddenly conscious of their clasped hands. How long had it been since Angel held his hand? | [attr="class","appls"] romance |

He was giddy. It always snowed on Christmas in the movies, and it felt magical, it felt unreal. The cold was sobering, but he was too proud to act bothered, to make a dash for warmth. The people in the streets seemed intrigued too, but they seemed like background actors, and him the star.
Angel glanced sidelong to the man he had linked his fingers with. He gave a small grin. He supposed Nevada was his co-star. Just for this scene.
Nevada was already looking at him, so Angel smiled. He batted his lashes, he licked his lips. He even tugged at his hand, trying to get across what he wanted, just like in the movies he knew Nevada loved.

Somehow, one of those rare moments had take hold. Angel and his eyes locked together while the snow spiraled down around them. Though the look was slanting, he could see the way the twinkled. There was something on his mind. When that pink tongue slipped past his lips and licked around them, he got what Angel’s look meant. It was strange to him to think Angel really wanted a kiss under the snowfall like in the movies. There had to be some trick involved.
He leaned in nonetheless. Whether Angel actually planned to throw snow in his face or push him onto the slipper sidewalk, Nevada didn’t consider it. A kiss was all that occupied his mind as he reached to pull Angel closer to him. Snow really was magical. If it could bring out the rare moments he was allowed with Angel, it could snow all the time. As he got closer, his heart began to beat faster. t was really happening. They were going to kiss in the snow. | [attr="class","appls"] romance |

Of course even Nevada couldn't miss what he was implying, and Angel met him halfway when their lips met. Warm in contrast to the cool air, lips against his and arms around him. It really did seem like something out of the movies when Angel could see the snow fluttering around them from the corner of his eye, settling on his hair.
When they pulled apart, Angel freed himself from Nevada's arms to crouch by the sidewalk, scraping up the bit of snow that had fallen. It was cold and stinging in his hand, but the sensation was fascinating more than anything.
"Hey Nev." He straightened, handful of snow behind his back and lips wet and pouting, begging for another kiss, curled in a slight, mischievous grin.

The cold stung his lips until Angel’s were pressed against his. The kiss, brief as it was, left him dazed and tingling. His lips were still warm moments after the contact broke off. Had they really just kissed amidst swirling snowflakes? He was in utter disbelief of the whole event. It really was like a romance novel scene come true. And Angel had initiated it. When he came to his senses, Angel was signaling for another. He leaned in for the kiss. | [attr="class","appls"] romance |
