John's mind was as null as the weather outside; bleak, grey, and festering with clouds.
He tapped his fingers against his arm, limbs crossed, they were appropriate for the job. His face was an impassable grim line, which lasted longer than the time the coffee machine was making his coffee. It was his lunch break, and he begun it with a neat cup of black coffee, like he always did since he started this job. Consistency was the key. He took it out of the machine carefully, and as usual, waited for a couple of seconds, taking in the scent of coffee before a long sip.
At that point, the people from the office milled in. John smiled, like he usually did, and played with small talk. He then excused himself though, with a lie saying he had someone to see, and then left the break area.
With his coffee long down the drain, John cracked his knuckles. Isaac would probably be working through lunch again, and John didn't feel like advising the man to take lunch break when he'd just get ignored and shooed away.
It was then a nosy man by the name of Michel peeked out the door, spotted him, and smiled.
"Hey John, hate to be a fuckin' pain in the ass, but could you go get some milk? Lacey wants some tea. Thanks man!" With that, he inched back into the room again, and John groaned, knowing there was no irritating Lacey, who was one of them that had the ability to get him fired.
Getting down the lift was enough pain as was the weather. It was always a pain with the building being so high, with multiple offices occupying the same block, but with the weather it seemed not many wanted to venture outside.
He smoothed his hair as he left the building, even if knowing it would be useless. The wind shuffled him along, but at least he didn't break his umbrella trying to battle the wind. Eventually he made it into a supermarket close by, where he took a moment to smooth down his coat and his hair.
