He stayed over at Harper's, frequently. Not too frequently - that would be rude, that would be invasive - but Harper was always glad to have him. The mansion reminded Jamie of his home back in Italy, except he felt more comfortable - more at home - here than he ever had among his family.
As it turned out, Jamie was not very good at soccer - he missed and tripped more than anything - but there was plenty else to do. They were watching a movie now, sharing a couch and a bowl of popcorn. Jamie couldn't really remember what this particular movie was about. He wasn't really watching. The screen was filled with the colour of flesh, breathy moans piping through the speakers.
He averted his eyes to look at the boy beside him.

Harper doesn't know why he's doing this. Or why he chose this movie to watch.
He doesn't know what drove him to pick this movie, it sounded cool. It sounded like a badass movie with a lot of action and manly stuff, okay, maybe not, but-!! It sounded like a cool movie.
Harper shoves a hand full of popcorn into his mouth and looks down at his lap when the people on screen have started to strip their clothes and things get a little steamy.
He keeps his eyes down until he thinks it's safe to look up.
His cheeks are still red, and he's still really flustered when he glances at Jamie. Oh gosh, he feels so bad for Jamie.
He calms himself down to try an avoid any awkward words before he says anything.
"I'm so sorry, I don't- I shouldn't have picked this movie." Harper says. "I don't know what drove me to pick this movie."
He sounds so regretful, and he wants to keep apologizing, but he doesn't, because a fleeting thought enters his brain. He shakes it away before he starts to think about it seriously though.

"It's okay," Jamie says, as he reaches into the popcorn bowl, and his hand brushes against Harpers, flinching, spilling popcorn into his lap. He averts his eyes, picking up a piece, placing it into his mouth. He tries to channel all his attention into chewing it, very slowly and carefully and thouroughly.
It isn't a full proof distraction. Harper has gone silent and all Jamie can hear is the moaning and sucking from the speakers. He licks his lips, tasting the butter left behind. His stomach does a somersault when he looks back at Harper, his eyes darting around the room, looking at anything but the screen.
He clears his throat, but he isn't sure what he was going to say.

and i can't change even if i tried even if i wanted to | Harper licks his lips, oh god.
Even if Jamie said it was okay, he still feels like shit. It's even more awkward because none of them are saying anything and sex noises are pouring from the speakers. Harper can feel his temperature rising and the blood rushing to his cheeks. God, get yourself together Harper. When Jamie clears his throat, Harper glances at him, hoping he'll say something, but he doesn't. Harper's eyes travel down from Jamie's eyes to his nose to his lips and then away, trying to make it seem as seamless as possible. He thinks he does a pretty good job about it. Another round of moans echoes the room, and Harper thinks that the scene will be over soon, so he hopes. It's probably no where near being finished, but looking on the bright side has always one of Harper's better traits. In a bad attempt to get the tension to lift, he forces a smile at glances at Jamie. He opens his mouth, but his words lag behind the action and he sits with his mouth open for a few seconds. "So..." Is all he can manage out before he can think of proper sentences. "What do you think it's like to kiss someone?"Harper wants to cry, he wants to crawl into a whole and cry before dying. He doesn't know Jamie's love life, but he knows his. He's never kissed someone, not for real. In kindergarden he kissed a girl on the cheek, but that's as far as he got before she hit him and yelled about cooties. Either way, he really wants to take back his words. JAMIE MARTINELLI |

Despite himself, Jamie is having trouble paying attention to Harper. Not for lack of trying, but he can't help it, the television is doing too good a job of making itself heard.
They're both sort of staring at each other to this lewd background noise - Jamie's eyes flicker between Harper and the wall to his side.
A faint thought, asking Harper to turn the volume down, skitters across the back of his mind, but he doesn't get to ask because Harper's gotten to it first. Though his question is something entirely different. The television is definitely making itself noticed, for Harper as much as Jamie.
Jamie glances at Harper, then away as he speaks. "It's... um..."
It's a few beats before he realizes that Harper is asking about speculation and not experience. He probably assumes Jamie doesn't have any experience in kissing, though that isn't true. Unbelievably enough. All that comes to mind is sticky lip gloss and bumping noses, nothing spectacularly romantic and nothing memorable.

and i can't change even if i tried even if i wanted to | Harper feels bad. He's not listening to what Jamie is saying, he's sort of zoned out in an absent-minded state. Perhaps the moaning and sex noises have gone straight to his head, but he's not sure. He doesn't even know if he's working his body of his own consent because before he knows it, in his daze, he's leaning forward towards Jamie. And then his lips are barely centimeters away from Jamie's, moving backwards. It takes Harper a second to recongise what's just happen and his cheeks are bright red again. "I-I-I.." He can't even get an apology out of his mouth at this point. JAMIE MARTINELLI |

Jamie didn't notice how close they were sitting until he realized how easily Harper had leaned in and kissed him.
If you could even call it a kiss. Their lips brushed for barely a moment. Jamie's were dry, probably scratchy and unresponsive because by the time he'd realized what was happening, Harper had pulled back and stuttered out what was probably meant as an apology.
He can feel Harper's breath, and Jamie swallows. He's barely registered what they've done (the moaning has, appropriately, reached its climax and begun to taper) never mind decided how he feels about it.
He didn't hate it, though.

The way Jamie is silent makes Harper feel like he's done something wrong.
Not that he hasn't, but it makes him feel even more guilty than he already is.
He squirms a little, and moves away from Jamie so they're not so close. He forces the redness in his cheeks down and tries to focus on something that isn't going to make him spout a pick-up line at Jamie when he opens his mouth.
"I... I'm so sorry." He says.
It feels good to get the apology out.
Harper feels somewhat - but not a lot - more at ease than before. His thoughts travel back to the kiss. It was brief, but Harper knows he didn't hate it. He hates himself for doing it on an impulse and at random. He hates himself for somewhat forcing himself on Jamie. He hates himself for having horrible setting.
But, he didn't hate the kiss itself.

Jamie leans away from Harper, leans into the couch cushions, but not out of disgust or hatred as much as confusion. Confusion about what had just happened and why it's set his heart racing.
It was sort of an uncomfortable kiss, but even more uncomfortable was the thought that followed. That he wouldn't have minded trying again, a better kiss. He's gaping, and he presses his lips together consciously, as if trying to smother the feel of Harper on them only seconds ago. He's dazed.
"It's okay." Jamie says, gaze straying back to the television, where the scene has switched but neither of them really care.
It would be a lie to say that Jamie hadn't been thinking of the same thing, even if Harper had been the one to do it. It had felt a strangely logical and clear progression, but now it was anything but.
Had Jamie been Harper's first kiss then? Had he just been curious?

harper feels like one apology isn't enough. he feels the need to apologize over and over again build up in his stomach, like something terrible he should throw up.
he doesn't know if he should, or if it would make it more awkward. he takes several short, quiet breaths to try and calm down his over-analyzing, mile-per-minute brain, but it does little to calm it.
he takes another breath, a deep one, but with it comes a stream of words he doesn't mean to say.
"it's not really okay, i mean, i just kissed you without your permission and it was really dumb and just an apology doesn't feel like it should be a problem. i mean, i just did something to your body without permission, isn't that like... rape... or something...? NOT THAT, um, you should sue me for... rape or... anything, but like, uhh." harper stumbles over mental hurdles trying to figure out where he was going with his rambling.
"and uh, i mean, it's not rape if you enjoyed it or something, i mean i kinda liked it, but , that doesn't mean you did too, i mean that's cool if you did, but i don't want to assume that you did, i mean, uhhhhh," harper takes a breath. "i mean like, can we still be friends after this? this won't... affect our friendship i hope, i mean like, i really, really hope it doesn't, like you being my friend means a whole lot to mean and i should stop talking now i'm sorry uhh."
and with that, harper shoves a handful of popcorn into his mouth, just to have a bit of trouble chewing it all. oops.

He swallows, and it's harder to do than it should be. Maybe it's his heart that keeps jumping into his throat with how hard its pounding. He's still staring at the screen, and though the movie is still playing, the room feels dead silent and the air feels thick.
Harper is talking again, and Jamie isn't looking at him, but eventually he tears his unseeing gaze away to meet his eyes. "Yeah," He says dumbly. Harper has given a speech and all he can manage in return is to croak out a single noncommittal word.
"No it was-" He tries to say something else, anything else. He didn't mean to sound as if he didn't care, but while Harper had a tendency towards rambling, Jamie was more the sort to clam up. His lips are still parted, gaping, and he presses them together, thinking of something to add. "It was... fine."
"But we can... uh, forget it." He suggested. Not because it was bad. Just awfully awkward.

harper nods, almost awkwardly, at jamie's comment. "y-yeah sure, of course!" he says. to be honest, harper doesn't think he can just forget about it. he's sure it'll linger in his mind for weeks, and then maybe, when he thinks he's forgotten about it, he'll remember when he's thinking in silence while he's in the bathroom, or in his room, or at work. and then maybe, he'll blush and hit his head on the nearest hard surface in an attempt to forget the memory again for another couple of years. and then rinse and repeat it all over again. just the thought of that happening makes him a little fidgety in his seat. "so um, do you want to watch another movie? you can pick this time, i swear." he says. "o-or we could do something else, i don't know, whatever you want jamie."JAMIE MARTINELLI

Even as they're talking about forgetting it, the memory has already begun to seep into his mind and saturate this thoughts. Jamie licks his lips - they're dry, did Harper feel them scraping against his when they kissed and feel disgusted?
He even finds himself needing to make a concerned effort to keep looking into Harper's eyes and not drifting to his lips, because he remembers them soft and salty, and Harper's hot breath coming from between them.
Jamie looks up at the clock on the wall as if he has an appointment - he choses flight, every time, but something keeps him on the couch. Harper is his friend - if he runs now, then he'll ruin everything, and they'll never go back to normal, though he's having trouble remembering what's normal now - had Jamie never noticed the curve of Harper's nose and the brown of his eyes and how much he liked these things?
Harper's talking again. "W-what?"

Harper feels a little hurt that Jamie wasn't listening, but he doesn't take it to heart.
He does, however, feel slightly more self-conscious.
Is Jamie still thinking about the kiss? Did he actually not like it? Is he - Harper - still thinking in circles? Is Jamie going to hate him? Is Jamie taking apart how bad the kiss was, bit by bit? Is Jamie this? Is Jamie that? Jamie. Jamie. Jamie.Harper has never had his thoughts consumed by a single person so much. He doesn't know how to feel about it, but he does feel extremely self-conscious about it. He feels like Jamie is mentally taking apart everything he's ever done, maybe regretting getting too close to Harper in the first place. Harper forces the thoughts from his mind though, or he attempts too. "I w-was just asking if you wanted to watch another movie... or um, do something... else...?" Harper says hesitantly. He feels like he sounds like he's implying something else, but he hopes Jamie doesn't read it that way.

Jamie wants to leave, he wants to be by himself so he can stop thinking about Harper and what just happened. He wants to stop thinking entirely, but his mind races the way it does when he can't sleep and his thoughts move too quickly to be coherent. Again, almost misses what Harper says when he repeats himself.
His lips move, awkward and soundlessly like a gaping fish before he closes his mouth and settles for a hasty nod. At least if they're watching a movie he won't have to look at Harper. At least if they watch a movie he can pretend to pay attention.
"Yeah… movie…"
