Cedric didn't reply to the question, answering the Grace with only a smile then a vague, throaty hum.
Whatever fabricated truths Calliope chose to trap herself in should be kept in her own little world, not spreading them around infecting others like this. But he wasn't going to point that out in front of an impressionable child. Somewhere without an audience, perhaps. Painful but quick, like ripping off a band-aid, or popping a soap bubble. It would be his one kind deed for the day, Cedric was in that kind of mood.
He was quick to lead the way to the exit, though still mindful of the other's smaller steps. "Watch out for the step," came the lighthearted warning as he looked down at the little girl, "Do you know where to go from here, Grace?"

There was something, just there on the edge of her thoughts. Something she could almost, not quite, reach. It hit her like the blonde bombshell it was - the girl from the beach. Holding Grace's hand reminded her of building the sandcastle. "Cedric -" she started, intending to ask him.
But he obviously didn't care, and was dragging Grace, who in turn dragged Callie, out of the club. She wasn't about to say something. Unfortunately, she'd let Cedric drag her anywhere. Once they were in the air, after he had finished asking the young girl about her home, she attempted again. "Cedric, do you remember the beach?" Her words got painfully mangled through her tongue, and she'd be lucky if her understood at all.
She did the only thing she knew how to do, and pouted. She threw in a little bit of sulking for good measure. LAIKA OF GS!

She couldn’t see any effect of her attempt to make happy the two people before her. There were still half felt smiles curled on their lips, which made the deity’s chest hurt. Why couldn’t they be happy? Why? Even if the man’s attitude had changed since she approached, his mood fell whenever he glanced to the woman. Grace did all she could for them. Whatever happened next was up to them. She waved goodbye to the pair without a word, skipping off into the night.

The day at the beach was, as much as he didn't want to remember, seared into his brain. It wasn't something that could be easily forgotten. And Calliope poked at the raw wound bringing it up. He didn't indulge on what seemed impossible, even now.The vague connection that he'd been avoiding made his stomach twist in knots. Grace had gone ahead on her own accord and disappeared into the shadows. Cedric stayed behind, a smile barely hanging onto his face. He turned to Calliope. The childish, and a little helpless expression struck something in him that made Cedric want to sigh. "You're going to be okay by yourself?" He spoke after a few seconds of silence. It was a question he was going to regret sooner or later, but right now, it seemed like the right thing to do.@callie

Her unsettled feelings dissipated with his question - as begrudging as it was. She looks up from him behind a wall of hair, with slits between it showing her face. Will she be alright by herself? Or would it be worse to be with him?
Callie is driven by fairy tales and raw emotions and here she is, full of fairy tales and raw emotions for him. Lonely for him only. It's sickening to think because he looks at her with so much disd- it's missing. She searches his face and it's gone and her heart swells to her throat. She is the Grinch but her heart was never shrunken to start with. It's beaten so largely it's threatening to overtake her whole ribcage.
"You could take me home," she says softly.

Something changed, although Calliope was still the same. Her frivolous wails and petty need for attention was the exact same as when he first met her. "You're not a child anymore, Callie." And he sure as hell wasn't her knight in shining armours. "The next time I won't be there to take you home in the dark."
He stared her down for another second before grabbing her a little roughly by the arm, like she was a kid who didn't know better.
She was a waste of his time, but just one last trip. @callie
