KEEP THAT PERFECT BEAT BOY
| The entire journey thankfully didn't take long. Vivien wasn't one to make conversation when it wasn't necessary, so he just openly glanced at Aster when they sat down on public transport. He walked ahead of her, leading the way into the fairly modest apartment building and pressed for the lift, allowing her to get in first.
Stretching his fingers while trying to combat the ache the plastic bags were causing them, the blonde walked slightly quicker than usual and dropped the two bags, fishing out his keys to open the door.
Once they were inside, he stepped over a pile of discarded bags and dumped the shopping on the kitchen counter.
"That room's empty, the one nearly opposite is mine, and the door next to it is the bathroom." He introduced his place without bothering to gesture to anything, instead promptly stretching his fingers. He then took out a bottle of beer from the fridge, flicked it open with the bottle opener and drank about half of it.
"Oh, uh, make yourself at home. Whatever." He shrugged, not quite sure what to do. Vivien didn't really have to take care of guests in his apartment. No one really came.

There wasn't much room to back out once she'd agreed, and Vivien didn't give her any new reasons to consider it. He didn't say a word as they returned to his place. It was nothing fancy, but she wasn't in any place to criticize - she was twenty-five years old and had never even lived in a place of her own. She could, however, criticize the mess, wrinkling her nose as she stepped around all the junk on the floor. Her gaze flickered to the other doors as he went over them, not sure if she wanted to see any more yet. She lingered just inside the apartment for a few moments before she finally followed Vivien to the kitchen, raising a brow. At least he was old enough to drink. "Isn't this romantic?" She said flatly. Not particularly meant to be insulting but certainly not a compliment. @viv

| Sarcastic, much? Was on the forefront of Vivien's mind. Instead of finding it insulting, it mildly amused him. It was a stance he used on many people, and not one returned with quite so much bite.
"I'll try and play nice, but that's about as much as I can do." Shrugging, Vivien looked her in the eye. "Fancy a drink?" He said, before he downed the rest of the beer, wiped his mouth with his hand and placed the empty bottle beside the bin.

Playing nice, huh? They were both playing nice - if agreeing to this date-of-sorts wasn't considered playing nice she didn't know what was. "What do you have?" She asked, trying not to sound too eager. Because after a day of standing around with a sign, she desperately needed a drink. And a seat. She had to clear a bit of couch space before she sat down. Though she didn't do much to hide her disdain of the mess, she bit back any comment about the state of his apartment.. It would probably come back up with a few drinks, though they were both abrasive enough not to take offense. @viv

| He watched her find a space to sit down, and closed his slightly agape mouth. Turning over to his small fridge, he crouched down and peered inside. She'd want something cold, right?
Tracing his finger along his row of drinks, Vivien blinked three times. "Can of coke, a beer, vodka..." How on earth did that get there? "Carton of orange, that's... it. Or I have tea and coffee."
Closing the fridge, he stood up, stretched his toes and looked in Aster's direction. "You can switch on the tv if you want. Remote's... somewhere." Shrugging, he leaned against a counter to wait for her answer.

She would have jumped at the vodka, if not for remembering herself. She was at a stranger's place, and it was too early to be getting too drunk. "Beer's fine." Aster replied, glancing around in thinly veiled disgust when he brought up the remote and the fact that even he didn't know where it was. She averted her gaze out the window a moment, willing herself to keep her criticism down for now. "So," She took a deep breath, let it a sigh. Do you ever clean? came to mind. She didn't say it. "You're from Italy." Aster said, looking back to Vivien. He must have something interesting to say about Italy. Something romantic to woo an American girl. @viv

| At her response, he went back to grab that extra beer and opened it with the bottle opener. He handed it to her, and cleared the seat next to her to sit down, obviously not even a little bit bothered by the mess. At least there was no smell or festering odour or something (and if it ever existed, he wasn't going to make it known).
"Yeah, I am. Though I don't know where I was born, I grew up just outside of Milano," He began, hoping to impress her, hoping it was what she wanted to hear. "It's where I found photography. Milano, as you can imagine, can be as beautiful as they say. I still have some old photographs, actually-" It was then he pictured people he left behind, regrets he never liked the look of, and stared into the ceiling. "I studied in numerous places after primary education, then when my father remarried I simply left. I was old enough to leave, anyhow. Boring story." Itching the back of his head, he turned to Aster.
"How about you?"

She nodded in thanks as she took the beer, took a good long swallow before looking back to Vivien as he spoke. Aster had never been outside her town until she'd come here. She wasn't easily impressed, but she was interested. He even pronounced it Italian. Maybe she was slightly impressed. When he was finished, she scoffed. "You think that's boring?" She sipped at her beer a moment as she considered what to say. He was only asking to be polite, so she supposed she should answer to be polite. The hardest part was coming up with something to mention. "I'm from Nevada, this small town." She didn't even bother with the name – he was European, of course he wouldn't know it. "I lived with my grandma." Another sip of beer. "She had a flower shop." She shrugged. There wasn't much to say that didn't encroach on the bitter territory that was her lack of family, and she wondered if Vivien had been vague for a reason. @viv

| He didn't answer her question. Not that he knew anything about her life before now, or her face, her name before today. It was just an excuse to stop him from saying more, from talking unnecessarily.
"Nevada... like the, uh," He narrowed his eyes, trying to recollect his thoughts. "The state! Like the state, yes?"
She was being limited with her information too, and Vivien supposed that was just fine. There were words better left unsaid, anyway.
"Sounds like a perfectly fine way of life. Simple. Uncluttered. But I know what you mean." He shook his head, itching the side of his face.
"Make this place your home. I mean it. Do whatever, say whatever. I'm not so great with social protocols anyhow."

"Er, yeah. The state." Aster nodded, realizing that it must have been stupid of her to assume that he knew. She didn't think of herself as naive, but she supposed that she must have been, if only a little, for assuming these things. She shrugged. Aster didn't see much charm in it, but then again, Vivien didn't seem so enthused about Italy either. The grass was greener on other other side. Nova had seemed much nicer prospectively, and now she was here and she was bitter, because nothing turned out the way she'd imagined it would. She didn't think she'd been too idealistic at the time. At his words, she tilted her head, considering his words a moment. She grinned. "I can tell." Even Aster seemed to be better at these things than he was. "Do you wanna just skip to the part where I'm drunk and we make out?"@viv

He didn't need to have it spelt out for him even more, acting now would save him a whole world of awkwardness.
So he leant in closer, and cupped her cheek with his hand, and kissed her gently. He went through the motions, until he decided enough was enough and moved back to where he was sitting before.
"No. That isn't going to work."
