Aster grew up in a small town in Nevada. Her grandmother owned a flower shop there, and that's where Aster's mother left her when she was four. She visited when Aster was a kid – she stopped visiting when her daughter grew old enough to hate her.
Her family was unconventional and it wasn't much of a family at all, but Aster doesn't like people to think it bothers her, or that it ever did. She grew up fast, and she grew up learning to take care of herself.
She used to look up to her mother, want to travel the world, but when she got older she only wanted to leave behind her dumpy hometown. She didn't actually do it until she was twenty-five and her mother invited her to stay in Nova Athenis, to make up for lost time – Aster just took the chance to leave.
Her city experience hasn't been that great – she's still staying with her mother while looking for a job more ambitious than standing on streetcorners holding signs.
Her only real experience and qualification is as a florist, but she hasn't taken any jobs. Flowers make her homesick.
