The bell for lunch rang and Minnie couldn't get to the lunch room fast enough. Things were looking up, really. Finally she had a group of friends to sit with at lunch, even if the group was weird and she was still entirely too shy around them. It was better than trying to find a corner for herself when people obviously tried to stay away from her. She managed to get in line before the big rush and after picking out all of her food and telling the lady at the computer her lunch number, she scanned the large lunch room before she saw her friends sitting in their usual spot. Apparently they'd gotten there before she did. Well, the only one really there right now was one other boy, Shaun. She didn't know him well but they were the same age and in the same grade, and he actually was interested in the fact that she had medium powers. Everyone else teased her about it but he didn't care. It actually made him excited, and that was reassuring to Minnie. I'm not a freak after all, I guess.Settling down in a spot across from Shaun, her tray clattered on the plastic tabletop as she sat. "Hi," she said shyly, announcing her presence even though her lunch tray had basically done it for her. SHAUN MURANAKA // other ghost ppl can join if they want to

He had his usual lunch, carrot sticks, an apple, the slice of cafeteria pizza that sat in a puddle of its own orange grease, and a small carton of chocolate milk to top it off. He had a small, tattered laptop to his side, reading it in spite of the loud clamor that filled the large, stained room.
Minnie was quiet against the loud shouts of the rest of the kids, he hardly noticed her as he studied the screen and took another bite of his apple.
But he did notice, glancing her way and back before doing a double take, still not quite used to the idea of someone joining him at his dingy corner table.
"Minnie!" he said, before remembering he had taken a bite of his apple. He quickly looked back at his laptop screen, swallowing before turning to show the screen to the girl.
"I found a site!" he said. It was an obvious site for the group's first excursion, the ruins, but it was a starting point at least.

Shaun seemed a little shocked to see her there. It was true, Minnie was pretty quiet, so she could sneak around pretty easily. Shaun said that was a good thing but she wasn't sure about that. Most of the time it just meant she was easier to ignore. She was dabbing the grease off of her slice of pizza with a napkin when he turned his laptop to her, showing her a webpage entitled "The Most Haunted Places in Nova Athenis." On the top of the page were the ruins, a place she'd heard of a lot but never really had gone. Even though she agreed to help out with this ghost hunting stuff, Minnie was a scaredy cat. "Oh, um, aren't those off limits...?" she asked lamely, knowing that something like that wouldn't stop Shaun. The pizza on her plate looked more and more unappetizing by the minute but she was really hungry, so she lifted the flimsy slice to her lips and took a bite. It didn't taste as completely horrible as it looked, but she was still growing increasingly nervous at this talk of exploring. Still, she knew that she had signed up for this, so it was kind of her duty to help him out. Well, it didn't really work that way but Minnie didn't want to let her friend down. SHAUN MURANAKA

He beamed as he watched her read it, proud until she quietly pointed out "Oh, um, aren't those off limits...?"
"Yeah but..." he quietly pulled his laptop back, trying to think of a good reason to go anyway, "It's not like they'll actually stop us. They probably don't even patrol there or anything." He took a sip of his chocolate milk, rather impressed with what he said.
It sounded cool, and truthfully, he was kinda nervous about breaking the rules like that too...
"Besides we won't be the first, the reports of odd things happening are astounding! evp, audio, auras, it has all the signs!"

He was trying to think of reasons why they should go, and Minnie didn't know how to convince him otherwise. She wanted to tell him to just go by himself (because they were sure to get in trouble, somehow) but she didn't know how to say it. Shaun was really nice and she considered him her friend, but...Minnie could've just sighed. The 'signs' that he was talking about made no sense to her. Even though she agreed to help out with her medium powers, she wasn't sure all of what ghost hunting entailed. Apparently it had to do with EVP and auras and those words made no sense to her at all. "Um, i-if you say so," she said nervously. "But maybe we should wait until we have more people to go? If it was just me and you we could get in trouble or hurt or something..." The last thing she wanted to do was have the police call her parents and say that she was caught trespassing in the ruins, and then getting hurt on top of it all. She'd be grounded forever, she just knew it. That was something Minnie didn't want to risk, and she was sure Shaun's parents would do the same thing. SHAUN MURANAKA

She still didn't seem convinced, Shaun puffed his cheeks out a little, impatient. He did his waiting, three years of it at least! and even though he did have some experience like...almost going into a couple of places, maybe going in for a few minutes, when he was alone it just never worked.
Why it just never worked well...he was working on that but it just never did and he was sure having more people there would help! It had to!
"We'll be fine!" he reassured her, "We have flashlights and cellphones and its not like ghosts will," he faltered a bit "harm us or anything."
He pressed his hands together in a pleading manner, "pleaseeeee?"

He seemed adamant, but she really was nervous about it all. Minnie would've had to be deaf to not hear the faltering in his voice when he reassured her they wouldn't be hurt. While she didn't know much about ghosts besides the one time she'd been in contact with one herself - something Shaun still didn't fully know, she didn't think - she knew that they could be dangerous. Besides that fact, the time she'd talked to a ghost scared the crap out of her. How was she supposed to do it now? What if the ghost hurt them, or worse - killed them? That wouldn't be a fun way to spend the evening. Still, he was pleading and his eyes had gotten the size of tea saucers, and his pleading finally got the best of her. Staring down at her lunch tray she picked at the tine of her fork with her fingernail as she shrugged a little before letting out a resigned, "Okay." SHAUN MURANAKA
