It was a quiet day. A few people floated around the small, open coffee shop, wandering this way and that. The barristers bustled behind the counter. People made small talk with each other, giggling at each other across their tables.
He had a window seat, for two, mostly because there really wasn't a seat for one in the coffee shop. His coffee, pitch black and half drunk, sat cooling at the table as he studied it with his usual scowl. He honestly wasn't quite sure why he had decided to get coffee, especially when he should have been trying to get some semblance of a regular sleep schedule (even if nocturnal).
Maybe it was a sign or something. That's what Jake would have said, probably would have followed with some sort of bachelor-related teasing as if he could talk. How was Jake? After the accident they had talked about keeping in touch, maybe he should write the platoon a letter? Phone call?
No, Orrin took another sip of his lukewarm coffee, that didn't seem like a good idea.

She was making her way through town, stilettos clicking on the sidewalk as a warning to all might hear her. Kyra didn't know how others felt about her. She didn't know about the dread and bother that filled their hearts, and as they say, ignorance is bliss. Even if she did know, she probably wouldn't really care. It was still relatively early, but she didn't sleep in. She wasn't a jaded diva who spent her days sleeping and her nights getting high at a club. No, she couldn't trash her reputation like that. She was already falling behind and out of the spotlight, could she really jeopardize it by turning into that type of person? No. Absolutely not. If anything, she was a hard worker, and worked her hardest to make sure everyone knew who she was and that she really was just a good Southern girl. Whatever. The fact that while she was walking there were no paparazzi was starting to prove that nothing she could do would be good enough. Passing by a coffee shop, she decided that it sounded like a good idea to grab a cup. Caffeine was always welcomed and the dark, bitter taste of coffee was something she craved at times. Stepping into the little shop she stepped up to the counter and ordered. When the hot cup was in her hand she turned to find a table. Sitting all alone at the back of the restaurant was a man, and well, he was quite attractive. Kyra only had "eyes" for Salem, of course, for her own gains, but maybe if she stirred the pot a little, flirted with other men, he'd realize that she could be gone in a flash. Maybe he'd get jealous and fight for her a little more. Oh, ignorance truly was bliss, but Kyra was none the wiser. As he was sitting at a table for two she approached, sliding into the seat across from him with the sweetest Southern belle smile she could muster. "Hey, darlin'," she drawled, eyelashes fluttering a little. "Couldn't notice that you were sitting all alone and looked like you needed some company." ORRIN KNIGHTLY

A woman had slid into the seat across from him. The coffee he was drinking slipped down the wrong pipe, sending the man into a quick coughing fit. He slammed slammed the coffee down, covering his mouth in some vain attempt to gain composure. "S-sure" He croaked between coughs, unable to do much more at the moment. God, Jake would have laughed at that, uncontrollably, 'smooth as a baby's ass, orrin' he patted his friend's shoulder before meandering away, still giggling like a school-boy. Probably woulda winked to.
Finally, he seemed to be able to subdue the coughing. "sorry" His voice was still kinda weak as he took another sip of the coffee to make sure the coughing had completely subsided.

She looked a bit shocked at his sudden coughing attack, unaware of what was happening. While she was generally only interested in herself and her own interests, the fact that a man was nearly choking to death in front of her was shocking and she hoped he didn't just fall over dead in front of her. Not because she'd feel bad for him, but because she didn't want to witness anyone die. That was just morbid. Soon enough he seemed to recover, however, and she sighed a sigh of relief, her hand leaving her chest - she had clutched at her shirt in surprise - and returned to the cup of coffee. Lifting the cup to her lips she took a sip and did not choke, but instead struck up a conversation. What was the point if sitting with this man if she didn't talk to him a little? "I hope you're okay..." she said in the most concerned voice she could muster. While she was an actress, an amazing one, after all, false concern was probably the most difficult for her. "Anyways, what's your name, sweetie? I'm Kyra, Kyra Kells...you might have heard of me." With a little giggle she tossed her green mane over one shoulder, running her fingers through the curls as she looked up at him with a smile, a stark contrast from his brooding look. ORRIN KNIGHTLY

The woman was tall and delicate, she expressed her concern for his coughing, he nodded a gruff, "I'm fine" as she took a drink of her coffee.
"Anyways," she continued in a thick American accent, asking his name before introducing herself as Kyra Kells. She giggled and played with her thick green hair a bit, looking at him expectantly.
He did not, in fact, hear of her. Was she in the news or something? Orrin never really kept up with pop culture, only picking up some second-hand knowledge from his friends, occasionally the news if it was a particularly ginormous scandal.
"Orrin Nightly." he said, before glancing out the window.

Kyra "hmf"ed a bit, angry that he was not reacting like he should have. She was a movie star, didn't he care? Everyone was supposed to care! Still, the woman supposed he was forgiven, considering that he was cute and she thought she could detect a little bit of an accent to his voice, even though he hadn't really said much...British, perhaps? "Ooh, Orrin," she cooed with a smile. "What a nice name." Compliments and flattery really did get you everywhere, if you knew how to play it right. Don't make it obvious. Be subtle, compliment small things and work your way up. Kyra believed herself to be a master at this, but in reality she probably was as conspicuous as everyone else. "So what are you doing here, off in Nova Athenis? Your accent gave you away, mister~" ORRIN KNIGHTLY

She complimented his name with a coy smile. Orrin wasn't really sure why. Names didn't really mean much, didn't do much. He took a sip of his coffee as the woman, Kyra, asked what he was doing in Nova. "Your accent gave you away, mister~"
What was he doing here? Living in a flat given to him for god knows what reason? Working some small job because of the good grace of the same dead relative that gave him the flat? That...really wasn't good coffee conversations was it? Orrin was pretty sure it wasn't. He sighed, "living." Yeah. he supposed he was living, god knew why.

It was a simple answer, yet it had a lot of meaning behind it. Words could hold so much behind them, it was impressive. It made Kyra want to come up with an equally meaningful yet simple response, but what does one say to just one single word? She was searching her mind but coming up with nothing. "Oh, cool," she said with a nod, even though that was definitely not a word full of meaning. What was she supposed to say, though? Ask him more personal questions? Obviously he seemed like he wasn't willing to talk and even Kyra wasn't that pushy with someone she just met. So, instead of bugging him about him, she'd bug him about her. "Well, I'm not from here either," she drawled, winking. "Can't you tell? I'm from Texas, but for a while I was living in LA because, guess what? I'm an actress!" She held her hands out like it was some big surprise, even though he obviously didn't care that much. He didn't even know who she was when she said her name. Rude. ORRIN KNIGHTLY

"Oh, cool." she simply said. Orrin took it to mean he still probably said the wrong thing but oh well. He took another sip of his lukewarm coffee, half listening to the two people across the shop completely engrossed in a conversation about comic books.
Oh, Kyra was talking again. Orrin nodded to show he was interested. Texas, he guessed it was somewhere like that. And she was an actress, he supposed that was why she asked if he knew of her, testing her exposure or something.
"I don't watch a lot of television." he admitted, giving her an excuse for the previously asked question.
The man took another sip of coffee, He should probably ask something in reply, right? "you filming?"

"Er, no, I'm not," she admitted sheepishly. She wished she was filming, but apparently she wasn't good enough for Hollywood anymore. She didn't understand it. She was a good actress. It wasn't even like she auditioned, she was discovered! Well, she auditioned a few times, and she got the roles. She was in good movies. Why couldn't she get work? Oh, well. She had a plan for it all anyways, and it was nearly a foolproof plan, at least in her own eyes. Nevermind the fact that just like Hollywood, Salem didn't want anything to do with her anymore. "Well, most of the things I do are on movies, anyway, but, whatever." It felt right to correct him. Who acted for TV anymore, anyways? Has-beens and wanna-bes. She was neither of those in her own mind yet somehow she was both at the same exact time. "So what does living consist of?" she asked after a moment, smiling up at him sweetly. She wanted to look happy for the sole intent of the paparazzi seeing what was going on. Maybe she'd end up on a magazine. That would be lovely. ORRIN KNIGHTLY

She wasn't filming, then what was she doing here? Orrin couldn't help but wonder though he was hardly in the position to. She continued to talk, talk and talk. The two across the shop were beginning to argue about batman. She repeated that she acted for movies, as if correcting him.
Wait she asked him a question.
What did living consist of? Orrin sighed, well not a lot. Breathing, he supposed? quelling middle-class worry by watching of trivial little things? Feeding some stray dog because what else did he have to do?
"Little of note."

Man, this guy was boring. All he was doing was sitting there, brooding, looking contemplative about things that were beyond her scope of vision. As if she couldn't have picked someone a little more interesting to sit with. A sigh threatened to escape her as did a yawn but she held both back. Knowing her luck a paparazzi would snap a picture just as her mouth was stretched open in an unflattering yawn. "Well, Mr. Orrin, sounds like you need to get out more!" she laughed with a flutter of her eyelashes. She didn't even care at this point that she was sounding utterly fake. Drumming her fingertips across the table she suddenly came up with an idea. With a smile she gave him an appraising look, looking him up and down. He wasn't all that bad looking, really, and he was definitely fit to boot. "Why don't you go to a club with me some time? I can show you a really good time and you'd have a ton of fun. Totally something worth living for. Why don't we go to Aquarius tonight?" ORRIN KNIGHTLY
