It was a little too late for young boys to be out. But his family didn't care where he went, his family didn't worry. Jamie was a Martinelli, he could take care of himself. The park was empty. Closed maybe, but it was gateless and Jamie wasn't deterred by signs that were too blurry to read. He rubbed his eyes, the letters cleared for a second, but melted right off the sign before he could read them. Frowning, he crouched down to retrieve them, only to come up with a handful of gravel. He let it run between his fingers, fall to the ground as if his hands were the bulb of an hourglass and the ground was another. An hourglass that couldn't be turned over when the time ran out. Pebbles and dirt dropped from his hands, then he stood up and dusted them off on his pants. In the distance, a figure, a long shadow beneath the sepia of streetlights. Jamie squinted, he played the game called is it a real person or a figment of his overactive and under-rested imagination? @nan01

SO DANCE ALONE TO THE BEAT OF YOUR HEART To Star, 'too late' is a phrase she doesn't have in her mental vocabulary, especially when it comes to art. Late night escapades aren't an uncommon occurrence for her, they happen on a weekly basis if anything. Tonight is the same as any night, as she takes her trusty camera with her. She starts at her apartment building, venturing out like a woman consumed by wanderlust. The lights, the sights, the people, most of it is seen through a viewfinder rather than with a naked eye. Star doesn't regret not being able to see the sights directly though. She'd rather die than miss an opportunity for a good photo to post on her wall. Her adventures bring her down streets and streets with lamps and people of all kinds, and her camera is near full by the time she reaches the park. Though this area is near empty, Star doesn't remove herself from her camera quite yet. She scans the area through her viewfinder and stops rather suddenly. She pulls herself away from her viewfinder to make sure she's not hallucinating. A boy out this late is unusual to her eyes, and despite the feeling building up in her gut, she's not going to take a photo of this rare occasion. Without realisation, she finds herself walking towards the boy. As Star, she feels that it's none of her business to approach him and she should leave him as he is. As a person, she feels she should at least ask him if he's alright, like a decent being. She stops a few meters from him. Her camera is completely out of her hands and is hanging by the strap around her neck. "Isn't it a little late for you to be out?" She asks, attempting to sound concerned for him.

A woman, a young woman, is all he can tell from the distance. Jamie still hasn't decided if she's real or not – not that it's his decision to make – when the camera drops from where it obscured her face. Absently, in the back of his mind, he wonders if it isn't dangerous for a young woman to be out alone at night. She's not a Martinelli. Or maybe she is. Maybe she's some distant relative he's never met – the family is big, and its web of connections is even bigger. And even more enemies. But she's probably not an enemy – Jamie isn't of enough importance to be a target, and he's not even important enough as a hostage. It doesn't matter, she might not even really be here. He definitely doesn't recognize her when she's close enough. He just stares blankly, not afraid and not all too interested either. "What time is it?" He says, though there's an honest wondering, a furrow in his brow – it's not a retort, but a genuine question. @nan01

SO DANCE ALONE TO THE BEAT OF YOUR HEART "What time is it?"
Star's stumped. She feels around in her pockets for her phone, but it turns out she left her house without it. She isn't wearing her watch either. She feels rather useless, and rather stupid as well. You would think a woman of her age would learn to never leave the house with the necessary items.
In the end, Star shrugs, "Don't know the time, but I know it's probably passed your bedtime." Her tone is teasing and she has a little smile spread across her face. Her eyes travel up and down his figure. He looks pretty young to be wandering the streets this late, a lot younger than her first impression. However, Star is in no position to tell him her opinion on what he's doing. She's not living his life, nor is he anyone important to her, so she keeps her thoughts on his late night escapade to herself. "What are you doing out here so late anyway," She says. "Nothing bad I hope?"Her smile turns into a little smirk at the last bit of her sentence. He doesn't seem like the type to do anything bad, but from Star's experience, the innocent ones can pull off the worst things.

Jamie nods complacently - no answer, but it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if he should be sleeping right now, because he isn't and there's nothing he can do about it. He's tried. "I don't have a bedtime." He tells her simply. Primo knows Jamie never sleeps, and he doesn't care where he wanders during that time. Jamie looks up - The moon is a slit in the sky and he can't see any stars, not from this patch of grass in the middle of the city's center. Blinking slowly, looks over at her with wide eyes, as if worried – before he catches her expression. "No m'am." He says earnestly, linking and unlinking his fingers. "Er – miss, I mean. Miss."

SO DANCE ALONE TO THE BEAT OF YOUR HEART "I don't have a bedtime." Star giggles lightly. Wow, either he's too good for his own good, or he can't take a joke. She drops it though, she figured he didn't have a bedtime. Well, it was either that or he was a runaway, but it was nice to know she wasn't dealing with a runaway teenager. "No m'am. Er – miss, I mean. Miss."
For some reason, Star still has a small grin across her face and she can't figure out why. Perhaps it's the fact this boy just called her m'am. She knows she doesn't look that old, or maybe she's just in denial? "Don't worry about," She says, a grin still on her lips. "And if you're going to call me anything, call me Star alright? So what should I call you?"
ooc: wow i lost muse bc i got distracted w/ plotting and omegle. i'm so sorry for a shitty post.

The woman is smiling at him, laughing at him, and it makes Jamie's nerves spark up like firecrackers. He might have blushed, but his skin is always flat and waxy. She's being friendly, and that's always made Jamie uneasy. Because he's a Martinelli and he has to be vigilant – he shouldn't talk to strangers. He tries to twist his expression into a smile, but somehow his lips end up pressed together to clamp down on a yawn. As if to remind him that Jamie doesn't smile. "Jameson. Jamie." He replies, meeting her eyes with twitching fingers, unsure of whether or not he's supposed to offer a hand. His right hand hovers at his side, drops uncertainly. Well, they certainly aren't going to cheek kiss. @nan01

SO DANCE ALONE TO THE BEAT OF YOUR HEART "Jameson. Jamie."Cute name, is the first thought in Star's mind, but then she had to remind herself this boy is not legal, while she is. It's against the law, not that the law has much to say in this city. "So, Jamie, if you're not causing trouble," She says. "What are you doing out so late?"With her experience, boys out late at night don't have a lot of options on what they could be doing. Though she doesn't want to, Star compiles a short list of what he could be doing, she hopes it's wrong though. The city needs some boys who are a littler closer to Earth. Then she remembers something, her manners. It's been a while since she's been so well-behaved, she's never this nice to someone. Maybe it's the fact he's younger than her that's making her nice, but she can't say she doesn't like the feeling of it. It's not something she'd like to do on a daily basis though."Where are my manners, sorry," She says, as she holds out a hand. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Jamie."

He shrugs. He honestly isn't sure. What is he supposed to say? – I think I haven't slept in a week, I don't know anything anymore. "Can't sleep." Now that felt like his entire existence summarized in two words. It was strange that Star was so curious about why he was out, when it was no less strange for her to be out alone this late. Was there even enough light out to be taking pictures? But Jamie wasn't one to concern himself with others business – there was more than enough worries crammed into his head, never mind things having to do with complete strangers.
When she offers her hand, his own jumps up to shake hers. He has a weak handshake. That's when he feels it – like someone is behind him. He squeezes her hand a bit, unthinking, instinctively. It would be rude to look away. His eyes still flicker from hers every so often, but at least he's facing her. But then it feels like there is hot breath down his neck and fingers ready to close on his throat, and he can't help it, whipping his head around to look over his shoulder. It's just an empty path, pavement, streetlights, grass. He breathes a sigh of relief, but feels anxiety well up again when he turns back to Star. "Sorry." He breathes. @nan01 what the fuck are tenses because i clearly do not know

SO DANCE ALONE TO THE BEAT OF YOUR HEART "Can't sleep."
Star raises an eyebrow, but doesn't say anything. She assumes this is normal for him by the bags under his eyes.
She feels for the poor guy. Her sleeping schedule is rarely normal, and she knows what it feels like to go without sleep for a day or two. Though, if this is common, sleeping in pockets is hardly something she can sympathise with. Lacking in sleep by choice is a completely different thing after all, she can always make up for lost sleep at another time.
When they shake hands, Star can't help but notice how weak his handshake is. She doesn't think anything of it, but when he squeezes her hand it makes her raise an eyebrow. She thinks something of it when his head turns, as if he's trying to see if there's someone behind him.
"Sorry."
Star shakes her head, "It's not a big deal, but... are you okay? You're sort of jumpy."

It is too late for a boy his age to be out, Jamie knows, but it's not like he's breaking any rules. Unless the park is closed, but he doesn't know the time or what those signs on the lampposts say. It's not as if he's sneaking out – nobody heard him leave the house, but nobody would worry to find him gone either. "N-no." He's not even sure what he's saying, what question he's answering. "Um…" Nerves get the best of him – are his hands getting sweaty? – and he releases the slight grip of his handshake to rub his palms on his jeans. He's forgotten his manners. There's still that feeling that makes his hairs stand on end, and he has to resist the urge to look behind him, his gaze trained on the pavement instead. It snaps up to Star's when he answers. "Just… stuff… I... sorry?" He says pathetically, motioning absently behind him and half expecting to feel something grab his arm before he can pull it back to his side. @nan01

SO DANCE ALONE TO THE BEAT OF YOUR HEART "N-no, um…"
Star's eyebrow goes up again before retreating into it's normal position. His words are weird, maybe honest if anything. Star lets her hands retreat into the pockets of her pants when Jamie breaks away from the handshake and rubs his hands against his pants.
He seems very on edge, no, more like he is very on edge. Star is sure of it, she has a gut feeling there is more to him than just a late-night walk, she won't deny the fact she's curious as to what's going on in his head.
"Just… stuff… I... sorry?"
Star laughs, he's apologising? Star wonders what he has to apologise for with a little grin "It's fine, don't worry about it."
"If you're nervous or something we can talk about it," She suggests. "Sharing your thoughts with a stranger is a lot better than sharing them with a person your close with. Strangers don't worry, nor do they judge, especially if they offer their listening services."
Maybe she's exaggerating the truth slightly, strangers are more likely to judge you, but Star is talking about herself. They poor boy looks scared out of his mind, and Star wants to know why, just to quench her curious mind for know.

Jamie has a feeling that he's unsettling her, making her uncomfortable as he tends to do. He can't really help it, nor can he help care whether people think he's weird or not. He probably is. He's also nervous, but that's not anything to do with Star. Or maybe it is, because she seems concerned and that's suspicious. Suspicious that she hasn't gotten fed up and walked off to find better company. Then again, there's not much choice of company this late at night. "N-no it's okay," He says, staring down at his shoes. "Um, like I said just… no sleep." He assured her. If that could be called assurance. Then he looked back up – Jamie didn't like talking about himself, and curiously kind strangers only set him further on the edge. "Are you… taking pictures? Uh." It was a stupid question. @nan01

SO DANCE ALONE TO THE BEAT OF YOUR HEART "N-no it's okay,"
Star doesn't believe Jamie for a second, but she can take a hint. He doesn't want to be questioned about whatever is going on with him.
"Um, like I said just… no sleep."
Star shrugs, "If you say so."
"Are you… taking pictures? Uh."
Star laughs. Wow, she's been doing that a lot for some reason. She assumes it's because of Jamie, which isn't wrong.
"Yeah, I've been out on the streets, snapping pictures of strangers and the city lights at night," She says. "Do you want to see some?"

She keeps laughing, but Jamie doesn't have the capacity to care. He's used to being laughed at anyways – his jovial uncle, the kids at school, everyone, it feels like. Jamie himself never really laughs, neither does he smile, but he doesn't hold it against Star or anyone else, even if he can't see the humour. "Sure." He says, because there's nothing else to do. Better to look at some pretty photographs than whatever visions his brain tries to push onto him. Jamie has never really been interested in art – he had always been more interested in books, but he seldom read these days. Fueled his imagination too much. @nan01
