| TO DREAMS, AND THE FOOLS WHO DREAM THEM This shouldn't be that hard.
"Cream the flour, eggs, butter and sugar?" the pink haired girl muttered under her breath, flipping between the pages of the book she's borrowed from work. It was a cake, how could she not even bake a cake. And what even was creaming? You didn't put cream in a cake she was sure of that.
Dumping the laptop on the flour encrusted counter top, Youtube became her next source of information, informing her that creaming was just mixing it all together. "Then put whisk, you whisk them together ..." she added, spooning out the mix into the tin and slamming it into the oven as the doorbell rung.
Taking a quick glance over the kitchen and groaning at the state of it, Skylar ran a flour covered hand through her hair, trying to brush some of it out of her hair as she opened the front door.
"You know you don't have to wait out here, you can just come in," Skylar reminded her childhood friend, holding open the door before quickly closing it and standing in front of the kitchen door. "You just can't go in there. It has been revealed to me that I am domestic goddess, however the kitchen has yet to catch up with my utter state of domestic bliss."

Of the few people Alois could actually stand, Skylar was the only one. He had tried to bring himself to hate her at one point, but he just couldn’t. She was his childhood friend. There were too many memories between them and a protective feeling he couldn’t shake. So he resigned himself to their friendship. It was the reason he stood in front of her house and proceeded to the front door. Skylar didn’t make him wait long. “I didn’t know if you were even home.” Slipping of his jacket, he hung it up on the coat rack he knew stood by the door and laughed. He smirked. “If you didn’t point it out, I never would have known.” SKYLAR YATES

| TO DREAMS, AND THE FOOLS WHO DREAM THEM "Yeah well it's not like you aren't welcome, you could probably just come in," she replied. She wouldn't have minded, really they should be more careful about leaving the door open for anyone to walk in but whatever. "I'm surprised Mum hasn't given you a front door key yet anyway." After all, with the amount the woman fussed over Alois, she was surprised that he hadn't been invited to move in yet.
"No you would have known. The realisation would have happened when you tripped over some of the fallen and broke your pretty little neck," Skylar explained. After all there was probably butter and all sorts over the floor, it was a health hazard!
"Fun day at school?" librarian asked, trying to take away the attention from the mess of the kitchen.

At mention of Skylar’s mother, he had to suppress a grimace. That woman was always fussing over him. Are you thirsty? How are things at home? Can I get you anything? It was never ending. “If I had a key, I don’t think your mom would ever let me leave.” He chuckled lightly. “That bad, huh?” Alois picked his way across the expansive foyer towards where he was sure the kitchen was. He opened the door to peak in teasingly then shut it. “If only I could see it. I bet it’s quite a sight. What are you cooking anyways?” SKYLAR YATES

| TO DREAMS, AND THE FOOLS WHO DREAM THEM "She just worries about you, that's all." In all honesty a part of her was glad that her mother's suffocating parent style had always been directed at Alois and never her, it let her get away with more things. However if her mother had actually taken an interest in her life then maybe she wouldn't have ended up moving in with some guy that she clearly had no future with.
"I told you you can't go in there!" Skylar exclaimed, making a frantic grab for the door handle as Alois shut it again. "You don't need to see it, you can pretty much sense the carnage," she added before glancing at the floor.
"Well, it was supposed to be a cake ... no idea what it is now."

Although he young platinum-haired teen couldn’t see, Skylar got so worked up over him feigning to peak into the kitchen. It wasn’t like it made a difference or not. But he supposed that was the fun in being around her. “That bad, huh?” He was almost afraid to know. Was the cake she apparently baked even going to be edible? He chuckled. As scary a thought as it was, he was almost sure she couldn’t possible mess up a cake that badly. “It can’t be that hard to bake a cake. You followed the directions, right?” She was probably just exaggerating. “It’s probably fine. You’re just making it sound worse than it is.”SKYLAR YATES

| TO DREAMS, AND THE FOOLS WHO DREAM THEM That bad? Did he think that she would be acting like this over a moderate disaster? No, not when the kitchen looked hell on earth. "Well I'll let you have some when it comes out of the oven and you can judge for yourself," the pink haired girl replied with a smirk. Only time would tell!
"Of course I followed the instructions, I just don't think that's how it was supposed to look," the librarian replied, moving over towards the living room door with a sigh. "When do I exaggerate anything? Trust me, it's going to be terrible and we can laugh about it later."

Well he couldn’t see to be sure she wasn’t just exaggerating things and, frankly, he was a little afraid to find out the truth. If the kitchen was as bad as she said then it’d be like walking into a mine field. He’d certainly slip on something and end up getting hurt. Or worst, if that were even possible. “I’m a little afraid to know what this cake tastes like now.”He found some comfort in the fact that she had at least followed directions. If she did everything like they recommended, it couldn’t be bad. He hoped as much, anyways. “I don’t know if I should be reassured or worried.” He chuckled. “I guess I just have to trust you.” SKYLAR YATES

| TO DREAMS, AND THE FOOLS WHO DREAM THEM "Well according to you 'it won't taste that bad' so you aren't getting out of it now," Skylar replied with a grin. Besides she didn't particularly want to eat it herself, she needed someone else to test it first before she tried it and she had no objections to using Alois as a guinea pig.
He'd just have to trust her? "Nice to know you have so much faith in me," she joked. Honestly, she wouldn't have that much trust in her cooking skills. She was a well known poor cook when it came to anything that wasn't basic or didn't come out of a packet. She was never going to survive living on her own.
"Bad cakes aside, how are things with you?"

He had wound up in a hole of his own making. If this so-called cake was the disaster Skylar believed it was, he was going to be in for the worst stomach ache of his life. Hopefully it wouldn’t be that bad. She had to be just exaggerating. But little could calm his worries now that they had flared up, especially since he couldn’t see what he was dealing with. Putting the cake to the back of his thoughts, he welcomed the change of topic. “They’re okay.” He replied, vaguely. She already knew his home situation. “Nothing new.” Well, there was but it wasn’t things he’d talk about with her no matter how good of friends they were. He didn’t like to share the hateful part of himself with her. “How about you?”SKYLAR YATES

| TO DREAMS, AND THE FOOLS WHO DREAM THEM It made her wonder if he was talking about life at home as well, but that didn't really need discussing between the two of them; she already knew. Alois already knew how much she hated his parents for what they had done, who didn't look after their family? Her mother could really annoy her, but she'd never do half of the shit that Alois' mother had.
"You know if you ever need me I'm always here," she replied, giving his hair an affectionate ruffle. It really sucked being older, like she'd already had the experience of the high school years, probably would have been a lot more fun with Alois around.
"Oh the usual, I get to read all day because not a lot of people come to bother me! Living the dream!" Of course! That's all she'd ever wanted to do ... read. She couldn't imagine her doing something else and since the library was so big, at least she was never going to get bored.
@alois / this is so poor im sorry
