School is out and Briella is making her way home from school when a kid in her class tears off the keychain on her backpack. It doesn't hold any specific meaning to her, but it is her's, not his and it's a big deal to her. So she chases after him. She chases after him all the way from school in a different direction of her house. She'll find her way back eventually so she doesn't care about being home late, she just wants her keychain back.
She's hot on his trail when someone walks in front of her. She attempts to put on the breaks but ends up flying into the person and falling onto her butt from impact. "Darn it," she says as she watches the kid fly around a corner and disappear out of sight. She sighs heavily, she'll never catch him now.
Briella looks up at the person she ran into and musters up the scariest glare she can, "Way to go buttface, you made me lose my target!" Alister managed to quickly move the smoothie in his hand a fair distance from himself rather than dodge the impending collision. Honestly, it didn't effect him very much, he wasn't knocked off his feet like the little green haired blob of a girl was, which was natural considering her stature and his.
However, he did move closer to her and offered her a hand.
"Little lady, where did you learn such repulsive language?" He'd be the first to admit he was close to swearing at her before, but thinking about it; it was just a little girl. (Although he knew how abrasive children could be.) For her to learn horrid language from him would make him a disgrace.
He didn't realise she was referring to the kid that managed to run past him - he didn't think twice about it, kids were kids. Damn him if they made sense.

Briella ignored the hand Alister offered her and stood up by herself. She wasn't going to accept help from a stranger, a stranger who disturbed her chase no less.
She almost decides to not answer his question, but figures there's no harm in answering a simple question. "The kids at my school say the same things, that's where I learned it."
At eleven the kids are aware of swear words, but most of them don't bother using them unless they're trying to show off. Most of the kids in Briella's class just use toned-down versions if they use them at all. "You owe me a new keychain mister, just so you know," she says. "And I'm not little!" He shakes his head. He doesn't really like children.
"Then you're gonna be just like everyone else then? That's very smart of you, kid." He comments sarcastically, still not really taking her seriously. "Let me tell you now, following the crowd ain't gonna do you any favours in the long term." He sucked on his smoothie more, relishing in the taste of fresh berries.
He narrowed his eyes at her now. If he wasn't irritated before, he near damn well was now. "I owe you no such thing." He had an idea though, looking at a nearby tree. He picked a pretty leaf off its branches, and lay it on the little girl's head.
"There you go. Your badge. Or whatever you lost." He peers down at her, wondering when it'd be a good time to leave her for homework at home with a cup of tea. But what if she started crying? Or decided to get an angry parent on his ass? He wanted to get into uni, for fuck's sake.
So he stayed. Like the idiot he was.

"What's that supposed to mean!?" Briella's honest when she's not sure what he's talking about. Long-term? She's eleven years old, why would she care about long-term? "That sounds like something an old person would say." Which is true, in her opinion. She wonders how old he is for a second before her attention is directed to the leaf he's putting on her head.
She brushes the leaf out of her hair and pouts, "I lost a keychain and that's a leaf. That's a bad trade! You should give me something that is of the same or lesser value to make it even! It's your fault I lost the target after all!" Alister sighs, and scratches his head. Of course she wouldn't understand. She's like, what? Ten?
"I mean if you do what all the other kids are doing you won't be your own person." He knelt to her level now, petting her hair. "Sure, I'm old. Whatever. But someday you're gonna look back and be all 'oh man I was such an idiot back then' and you'll be old yourself. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about." He shakes his head - his own childhood was something of horror movies, for sure.
Alister sighs again. She's loud. But he doesn't want to upset her.
"I can treat you to a drink or some cake or something. You game?"

He sounds old, really really old. The way he talks makes her think of a grandpa sitting in a rocking chair talking about 'the good old days' and it makes her cringe a little bit. His words make a little bit of sense to her though, if she does what other people do she won't be her own person. However, it leaves with a question to ask. "Does that mean since everyone follows the rules, I shouldn't 'cause like... that's what everyone is doing right?"
She's a little confused, everyone always says to follow the rules but if everyone is doing it does that mean she shouldn't? Because if she does, then she won't be her own person! ...Right? Briella doesn't know how this is all supposed to work, but she thinks she likes the idea. She also likes the idea cake, she's not really hungry but she knows you should never say no to free food. "Yes, that sounds like fair trade! Will you buy me any kind of cake, or are you going to pick?" She's smiling and content now, cake makes everything better after all, but she feels like she's forgetting something.... It makes her feel weird, but she can't remember what it is. Oh well, if it's important she'll remember it eventually.
