Aura was excited that Bree was going to come to the bakery today. She had befriended the girl on a strange whim — Aura didn't have many friends and she definitely didn't have friends like Bree, at least not usually. But she ewas excited nonetheless, both because she actually had a friend and a friend who was interested in her baking. She spent all afternoon trying to secretly bake something of her own volition without getting caught, though she wasn't quite sure what would happen if she did get caught. Was it really that bad to make something of her own on the side? Plus, the store was unbearably slow today, and at this point she was the only employee on the clock. It was almost closing time, after all. Still, she carefully placed the tray of French macarons into the oven, the little pink cookies having formed their feet and shells wonderfully. Aura had been practicing her macaronage dutifully over the last few weeks, and she finally had gotten it down. Expectantly she stared through the window on the oven, though she eventually pulled herself away to prepare the filling. Just as the oven dinged, signaling that her macarons were finally finished, the bell above the door tinkled as someone walked in. Aura peeked out of the kitchen, hoping that it was finally Bree. | seven devils all around you | Bree had made a lot of good decisions in her life, but befriending a baker was definitely her best one.
She didn't like baking. It took too long, and people always expected her to clean up the mess afterwards. She didn't, of course, but it was still pretty annoying how they expected her to. Did she have time to go scraping batter off of ceiling fans? No, she did not. She had better things to do, and oh, what great things they were. Whatever they were.
With a baker as a friend, she could enjoy all the sweets without having to lift a finger to clean up. Gosh, her genius astounded even her sometimes. And Aura wasn't bad as people went. Sure, she was shy, and didn't have that fondness for explosives that Bree looked for in all of her permanent friends, but she could bake stuff, and that sorta made up for it.
Pushing open the door to the shop, Bree waltzed in. "Greetings, my loyal subjects!" She declared to the room at large, offering it a gracious bow. "Your queen has arrived."

The tinkling bell was Bree, and Aura knew right away by her booming announcement. Bree was certainly much more outgoing than Aura, but it was probably good for her. She could be a little more out of her shell at times when someone was being extroverted, though sometimes it did make her feel a little out of place. Right now, though, it was just the two of them in the little shop so Aura didn't feel as afraid to be more like herself. "Bree!" she said, stepping out of the kitchen. She probably looked a bit silly, with her hair tied up in a fluffy top-knot at the crown of her head and flour and pink food coloring staining her work apron. Still, it didn't matter much. Aura was so happy now that her friend was here and that her macarons looked great. None of them had even cracked! Wiping her hands off she stepped out more, smiling as she walked around the counter. "The treats are almost done, so I hope you're hungry." It was easy to get carried away with macarons — Aura always did, after all. They were just so easy to eat, they were small and delicious and before you knew it, you had eaten half a tray and were left with a crazy stomach ache. Still, having someone else here to help her eat them would be a big help. And of course she'd set some out in the case to sell. Oh, Ornella would be so proud! BREE O'MALLEY

She found her nonexistent subjects' refusal to bow to be quite rude, but refrained from scolding them. Why start this visit off on a bad footing? Spotting Aura, Bree grinned at the other girl. "Aura!" She called out in reply, enthusiastically throwing her hands up in the air for no particular reason.
"I am hungry. I haven't eaten for a week." Bree replied casually, in a tone that gave no indication to the fact that she was lying. Of course she was lying- she was, after all, a pathological liar. The people expected her to lie; shame on her if she let them down. She had stolen a sandwich from a deli just an hour ago. Bree had particularly enjoyed the bit where the owner had chased her halfway down the street in an attempt to catch her. Those had been some good times. She missed that deli owner something terrible. They'd have to get together and reminisce sometime.
"So, what kinda treats did you make?" Bree inquired, perching herself on a nearby small table. Why did people bother with chairs anymore? Tables were much better to sit on. Tables were the future. She should get herself into the table business. CODED BY ELECTRIC OF GANGNAM STYLE

Bree seemed excited to be here, so Aura was excited too. The girl scooted up on a table to watch what she was doing. Normally Aura would tell someone to get down from the table, it wouldn't hurt now, and Bree looked like her clothes were clean. She'd just have to give that table an extra wipe down tonight. "Macarons!" she exclaimed happily. "Strawberry on this tray and chocolate on another." The purplette gently peeled some of the little pink cookies from the tray, grabbing a pastry bag as she did so. With a quick flick of the wrist she frosted one of the centers with strawberry jam and squeezed the two together or some point. Handing the small cookie to Bree for a taste test, she smiled. "They're supposed to taste better if you let them rest, but I'm impatient!" BREE O'MALLEY

Puzzled, Bree tilted her head to the side and raised an eyebrow. "'Macarons'?" She repeated after Aura. "What're 'macarons'?" It sounded like a nonsense word to her- but then, wasn't the baking business filled with nonsense words? It probably was. Bakers were a loopy lot.
She watched with curiosity as Aura deftly created what looked to be some sort of tiny pink sandwich. Plucking the proffered object out of Aura's hand, she held it up to her eye to inspect it. Now that she thought about it, it really looked more like a hamburger than a sandwich.
Bree lowered the hamburger-sandwich-sugar thing and grinned at Aura. "Cheers!" She announced, before taking a bite out of the macaroon.
Well, it didn't taste like a hamburger. Or a sandwich. But it was still pretty damn good.
"So this is what pink tastes like!" Bree exclaimed. "I've always wanted to know! Gonna cross that off my bucket list when I get home. This tastes freaking sweet, Aura! Though, are you sure they're called 'macarons' and not 'sugar hamburgers'? 'Cause I think 'sugar hamburger' would be a much better name." CODED BY ELECTRIC OF GANGNAM STYLE

Aura couldn't help but giggle when Bree dubbed them 'sugar hamburgers.' They did look like a burger now that she mentioned it, but she was awfully glad that they didn't taste like burgers. Burgers were good and cookies were good but mixing the two would not be very delicious at all. "Well, I'm glad you enjoy the sugar hamburgers," she said with a bit of chirp in her voice, happily referring to them as Bree had said. Aura was always delighted when people liked what she made. It made her feel like she was actually doing something worthwhile and that people liked all while she got to do something she loved. Plucking more cookies from the tray and filling them, she set them aside on a round tray to be stored for later. Maybe she could feed some to her coworkers and even Ornella to see if they were really as good as Bree was saying. Finally she just took one for herself, stopping her filling process, and smiled happily as she took the bite. "These are good," she said, pausing to finish the rest of the cookie. "They'll be even better tomorrow after they've gotten a chance to rest and chill. They'll be chewier and wonderful!" BREE O'MALLEY

Treats like this were the entire reason Bree was friends with Aura in the first place, using the word 'friends' as broadly as possible. Most of the time, when people called someone their 'friend', it meant they actually cared about them. Bree didn't care about Aura. At all. If she were to get plowed over by a car in the street tomorrow, Bree wouldn't shed a single tear. She would miss these weird sugar-things though. They were pretty damn good.
She didn't waste any time in shoving the rest of the macaron into her mouth. Good manners were for people who actually respected others and cared what they thought about them. In any case, Bree probably didn't have to worry about Aura judging her too hard. She was too nice by far, and this made it extremely easy to take advantage of her. God, Bree loved the gullible ones.
Putting on her most winning smile, Bree leaned forward, her hands holding onto either side of the table she sat upon to make sure she didn't fall. "Can I have another?" She asked. "I wanna get super jacked up sugar, and unfortunately, I can't wait until tomorrow. I got places to be and people to see, much as I would love to spend all my time hanging out in an empty bakery with you."
Releasing her grip on one of the sides, she held out her hand, displaying her empty palm to Aura. "Pleaaaase?" She whined, giving Aura her best imitation of puppy dog eyes. "I'm starving. My cousin doesn't feed me at all. He's a real scoundrel. You wouldn't want me to starve, would you, Aura?" CODED BY ELECTRIC OF GANGNAM STYLE

Aura really needed to learn to be less trusting of others. If she knew what Bree really thought of their friendship, she would probably cry. Thankfully she didn't know the truth, so she was blissfully unaware and simply thought of Bree as a boisterous soul. She was alright with it, anyways, even if the girl was a little uncouth. "Of course you can!" she said happily, and handed the girl another one of the cookies. "You can have as many as you want." A frown finally graced her pink lips when Bree mentioned that her cousin never fed her and that she was starving. Was that really the case or was the girl just being facetious? She wasn't sure, but since she was entirely too gullible, she had a feeling it might be true. Taking a plate she put a big pile of macarons on it and slid it over to Bree. "Eat as many as you want," she said, smiling a little understandingly. "I can always make more!" BREE O'MALLEY

She was rewarded for her lying and begging with a plate piled high with macarons. Bree's pout instantly dissolved into a wide grin. Whoever said honesty was the best policy was a liar. Lying was always the best path to take. Always.
"You're a peach, Aura," Bree told her, picking up one of the macarons. "I wish you were my cousin instead of that no-good, dirty rotten rogue who's my actual cousin." More lies; much as she loved to bash Killian, he was fun to have as a relative. If Aura were her cousin, she'd get bored of her within the week. Poor little bird.
She ate one, then another macaron with gusto. "You know, you should really try one of them." She said, picking up a third macaron and examining it. "They're really good. Taste the fruits of your labors and all that!" She smirked across at the other girl. "If you don't try one, then I'll throw this at you." She said, lazily waving the macaron she held in her hand around.
Really, she just wanted an excuse to throw one of these at someone. They looked like they would make excellent missiles.

Aura smiled a little at Bree's admittance that she'd rather have her as a cousin. Blissfully unaware of what the girl was really thinking, she was flattered and felt it was a compliment. Even though Bree was a bit of a wild card and had a "boisterous" personality, she was fun, and Aura was glad to call her a friend, even if she was the only one doing so. When the girl suggested she try one, she was about to reach for it before Bree said she was going to throw it at her. Squeaking a bit she pulled her hand back to guard herself, a little frown pouting on her lips. "I'll eat one, don't throw it at me!" she cried. "I worked so hard on those..." To see one sitting on the dirty floor would just kill her. Macarons were no easy feat and she had spent quite a bit of time to get these right. She wasn't really mad at Bree for suggesting it, but she certainly didn't want the girl to throw away all her hard work. She accepted the macaron from the girl and tasted it, smiling once the bright fruit flavor hit her tongue. She had tried a few while she was baking to make sure they tasted all right, but they were even better now that they had been sitting for a while. Unlike other cookies, macarons tasted better the longer they sat. "They are good," she admitted with a little blush, feeling selfish for praising her work like this, but it was true. They were good, and Bree seemed to agree. BREE O'MALLEY
