I'M GOING CROSS THE DELTA It was entirely possible that Peng hung out in east nova simply because of the people who weren't citizens like in the south. It was sketchy down there. Peng was nervous about running into family, fellow hackers, rivals, competition, drug dealers, organ dealers. He was scared of seeing blood at all. A twenty year old guy puking in the street like a wimp was not how he wanted to be recognized.
He was loitering near an ice cream van and a fountain, waiting for a job that he'd said might be coming by, but it was taking a while. It had already been twenty minutes and he hadn't seen sign of anyone or anything, just the usual tourists, the usual people hanging around taking pictures and being... well, normal. Of course, Peng couldn't really call that. He was sitting on a fountain, looking relatively normal, occasionally checking his phone like he was just waiting for a friend. ha ha. friends.

Fangyin didn't sleep very well last night.
The noises; she wasn't certain where they were coming from. Either way, she was kept up, and so by the next day she was in a very wary mood. There weren't many things that made her relax, and for once, she didn't want to trouble brother by following him to work. Even though she evidently could. If she wanted to. But she had to be a good girl.
She could buy ice-cream, in the East.
It was soon she found herself in there, lingering in downtown, trying not to get pushed and shoved by strangers. Fangyin was able to conduct herself in large crowds of people, but it never cased to make her feel uncomfortable.
Spotting an ice-cream van where it was usually parked, her favourite, and she even made herself look around for the cat like woman she ran into the other day.
She wasn't there.
Comforted, the petite girl shuffled closer, until a figure caught her eye. So she shuffled there instead, pigtails dancing in the air following behind her.
"Um... Cousin Peng..." She began quietly, suddenly appearing in front of him.

I'M GOING CROSS THE DELTA When Fangyin effectively materialized in front of him, Peng almost screamed like a little girl. He tensed and stared, then his shoulders dropped and he relaxed. Where did she come from?
"Where did you come from?" he asked with a bit of a sigh, his heart beat starting to slow again. It was as if she had to ask him something, or... well, he didn't know what, but it was definitely a weird way to say hello. He should have expected it, but it had been quite a while since he'd seen anyone in his family. His gaze finally focused on her properly, and it felt weird to be so close. He felt like someone was going to see them, and know that they were up to something, even though they weren't.
"Sorry," he finally added. "You scared me." Hopefully she would explain herself anyway, instead of just standing there, but he couldn't be sure. It was Fangyin, after all, and a tiny part of Peng was relieved to see her. She was familiar in a city nearly full of strangers. Peng wasn't always alone.

She turned around and pointed at the end of a street close by.
"I scared you." She spoke, evidently caught onto Peng's alarm, her Chinese sounding strained. "Sorry." She dipped her head down a little, twiddling her fingers.
Her shoulders were slumped, and she began to roll them to stop them being stiff.
"Ice cream. I am getting ice cream." Fangyin nodded to herself, lips pressed in a straight line, wordlessly prompting Peng for an explanation as to why he was here.

I'M GOING CROSS THE DELTA Peng's gaze briefly followed where Fangyin had pointed to, then snapped back to her as she spoke, and it took him a moment to piece together her sentences. He wasn't used to hearing Chinese here. It felt strange to hear it from her, to be here like this, in Nova, somewhere... peaceful. Of course, that was an illusion with their family, but still.
"It's okay. Ice cream?" he asked, and watched her stare at him expectantly. "Oh. Yeah. I'm uh, I'm getting ice cream, too. Here, I'll buy yours - what do you want?" he asked, standing up from the fountain and squinting at the van, as if he could see what it was selling. He couldn't, but it had to have been the usual stuff - chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, a couple weird ones, maybe an ice cream sandwich. He wasn't hungry, but he wasn't about to confess to Fangyin that he was waiting for customers for his hacking business.

She frowned, and shook her head. She knew he must've been lying, but she didn't want to push him on it either. Cousin Peng must have his reasons. At least, as family, she could spare him the doubt.
"It's okay." Her Chinese was always hesitant, quiet, but with a deep charm to it. Her English was downright terrible - inconceivable stringed sentences was what she gave people.
"What flavour did you want to buy, Cousin Peng?" She tilted her head, braids following her head's movement. "What's your favourite?" There was a subtle, tiny, tinge of happiness when speaking about ice cream - it was sugary, cold, and incredibly bad not to mention unnecessary for the body; Fangyin knew this, but to her, it meant a tiny act of rebellion against her parents.
Plus, ice cream was really good.

I'M GOING CROSS THE DELTA Momentarily he looked at her, saw the knowing in her eyes. She wasn't pushing it. Fangyin had to have been the only Zhang ever that would go out just for ice cream, but even then, Peng had to wonder.
"Chocolate is fine," he said with a shrug. It was tastier than vanilla, not nearly as boring, and a flavor that everyone had. Still, he didn't sound convincing. The truth was that Peng had never taken much consideration as to what his favourite flavor is. They all tasted good, and well, chocolate was always good, so he never really bothered trying anything new.
"What's your favourite?" he asked in response, smiling a bit. He tried to figure it out. Would she be a vanilla fan? Or strawberry? She seemed to know this van was here, so if she was more a fan of ice cream than Peng knew, it might be some obscure flavor he didn't know of. Like the day he discovered chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. It was brilliant, but Peng had never strayed far from chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry. Those were familiar. @f

"Cousin Peng, perhaps going for fresher flavours would be good for you. It's more likely the ingredients aren't too harmful for the body. Consumerism has degraded us into eating chemicals and animal scrap." Fangyin said seriously. Nodding slightly to herself. "But moderation, moderation has to be accepted."
"Amaretto Cherry." She replied with a small smile. "I can't say I have a favourite, but it's an intoxicating flavour. It has alcohol in it, and I won't get intoxicated. The flavour I had has real cherries in it!" There was a strange kind of pleasure in her voice. She was never quite this talkative.
"But I usually have vanilla. It's a mild flavour. Not all places offer exciting flavours."
