The more I see the less I know, The more I'd like to let it go Courtney always kept the philosophy in mind that any publicity was good publicity, and the best of all had to be charity events. After all, she supported charity but if she could be seen supporting charity, even better. Voters lapped that stuff up because it made her seem like a decent person. It wasn't like she didn't have any money to spare, no, she was minted now, set for life. Her divorce money was only part of a collecting fortune, really she didn't even need it.
Still, these events were pretty boring when you didn't have a date, no one to talk to. Shame really, it was always fun to be with someone and she got all dressed up and everything. Who cared, it was just an opportunity for interacting and making connections, however after a while it got boring ...
Which was why she'd ended up at the bar, she didn't even drink that often it was just better than standing in a room by herself. Just a small drink, not enough to get drunk because she'd seen enough people to put her off the whole experience. "Vodka and coke please, less vodka than a usual thanks." Courtney requested, resting her elbows on the wooden bar top. May as well have ordered a coke on its own, considering the tiny amount of alcohol it had in it. Whatever, she didn't care.

So much for a break. He wasn't interested in public events, he'd barely left his apartment for the past weeks he'd been back. He couldn't give a rat's ass about publicity or charity, and yet here he was, wheedled into some damn charity event – what was this even supposed to be helping? He tried to look mildly interested, shaking a few hands before he wound his way over to the bar for a gin and tonic. While he waited for his drink, fingers impatiently drumming the bar countertop, he glanced over at the blonde he'd sidled up next to. "What a night." He says, not bothering to sound particularly interested. Who expected anything more from a rock star, anyways? He'd donate money, he had more than he could spend, but expecting him to really be passionate and sympathetic to the cause was a bit much. @courtney MARI @ GS!

The more I see the less I know, The more I'd like to let it go She could head his drumming finger but took no notice of the man behind the mildly irritating noise, why should she? She'd soon have her drink and would be back mingling, if the guy wanted to speak to her then that would be fine but she wasn't going to initiate some kind of conversation.
"Indeed" Courtney replied, finally glancing over at the man she was standing next to, bright blue eyes taking in his appearance before turning her attention back to the whereabouts of her drink. She could vaguely recognize his face from something but when it came to a name she could only draw blank. Still there was something a little intriguing about him, he looked a little more interesting than the others she'd met at this party anyway.
"Courtney, by the way" she added, picking her glass up off the counter top before taking a sip, turning round to face the silver haired man. She may as well get some entertainment from him rather than stay bored for the rest of the evening.

She seemed just as impartial when she responded, and Salem gave a nod to the bartender when he took his own drink, turning to her and raising the glass in a small salute. "Salem." He said in turn, giving her a cursory once over. She was a fox - not as young as the girls he normally went for. She looked closer to his age. He squared his posture to face her. He was certainly interested now. "So, you a model or what?" He grinned, taking a swallow of his drink. @courtney MARI @ GS!

The more I see the less I know, The more I'd like to let it go "Interesting name." the blonde replied with a smile. It was one of the things that she had learnt as a politician, the nicer you were to people the more you got out of them. She didn't want to lose her 'new friend' now did she. Or she'd be back to standing by herself and that would be dull.
Still she saw the way he looked at her, she was a master at reading men by now, however she couldn't say that didn't appreciate the attention. It was nice to know that people thought she was attractive. Her vanity appreciated it.
"Aren't you sweet!" the woman replied, raising a hand to her cheek before adding "No, I'm a politician. What do you do?" Modelling was something she'd thought about but ... what if she'd got fat or even worse ... ugly. No, politics could make her a fortune to last a lifetime and that was what really mattered wasn't it? Money.

She didn't seem to know who he was - Salem wasn't used to that, but he didn't make a show of it. Especially not when she went on. Politicians weren't exactly his target audience.
And she wasn't exactly what he expected of a politician - the flash of surprise in his expression was genuine. He didn't follow politics much, but he saw them as a group of boring old men, as most people did. "Beautiful and intelligent." He said with a smile - none too subtle, but she probably got it a lot.
"I'm a musician." He replied, which was probably just about what she'd expected.
"So how'd you end up here?" He motioned vaguely to their surroundings. More concerned with how a British politician ended up on a little island at some charity party.

The more I see the less I know, The more I'd like to let it go God this guy was smooth wasn't he? "You're making me blush!" the blonde replied, covering her mouth over with her hand. Compliments were always appreciated in Courtney's book, being told that she was pretty was always nice.
"What do you play?" Courtney asked curiously, taking another sip of her drink before swirling the content around it. Why didn't she just get a coke? She didn't even want the vodka in it and she couldn't taste it so really the whole thing wasn't worth it.
Now why was she here ... votes, looking good, good publicity, there was so many reasons she had decided to show up tonight. "I was invited, it would be rude to refuse. To be honest, it doesn't really seem like your kind of scene either."

He didn't really care for smart girls - most of the girls he got with were anything but. Salem had a feeling it would take more than a few compliments to really get anywhere with Courtney, but he didn't mind a challenge once in a while. He hadn't had a challenge in a while, actually. Probably because he hadn't left his apartment in a while, but it was shockingly easy to step into the glamorous rockstar act as Salem flashed her a grin and sipped at his drink.
"Guitar, mostly." He replied nonchalantly. "I do some vocals and songwriting, too."
He glanced to her drink, the clinking ice and swirling coke. It seemed boring, being a politician. While it would hardly be good publicity if Salem got smashed tonight, it would hardly ruin his career. But she had to stay sober and presentable. "Would you believe me if I said it wasn't? Just PR." He said with a roll of his eyes - while he didn't go into details of his situation, it was an honest answer. "But you're not from around here, you got a vacation home on Nova or something?"

The more I see the less I know, The more I'd like to let it go "Impressive. Clearly you have a lot of talent," the blonde replied with a nod before adding "You have the look of a guitar player. Devilishly handsome." A cheeky smile was on her lips as she said it, men were all the same to her. It wasn't like she knew all about the expectations of guitar players, but men would always appreciate a compliment.
"Really? You shock me!" she joked before rolling her eyes "to let you in on a secret, I'm sure eighty percent of the room would offer the same reason if they told the truth." Image was everything in half of their industries, it wouldn't surprise her.
Oh, was it that obvious? "I had some business that I needed to sort. The island was so nice I decided to stay," she admitted. Honestly, the only reason she had come originally was to hunt down Damien .... not that she was going to admit that. Turn off much?

Salem chuckled, giving a shake of his head as if he were humble. "Now you're just flattering me." Though in his line of work, with his level of success, staying humble was near impossible - he'd long since accepted that he really was A Big Deal, but he could still play the alternate part if he needed to.
"There is something to say about good publicity. In your line of work. Don't know if the same can be said for mine." He offered a smirk and a shrug.
For a rockstar, Salem was a good deal more intelligent than people liked to give him credit for. Even if he didn't always act it, he figured politicians preferred more stimulating conversation. Besides he was only on his first drink. "It is nice." He nodded. "I've been all over the world and I still come back."

The more I see the less I know, The more I'd like to let it go "There's no such thing as bad publicity, sure something good will come out of all of this," the blonde replied with a seductive smirk. There was no way she was leaving with him, now that wouldn't be bad publicity but very damaging. Stringing him along however was just for fun.
"Must be something special about this place then if you love it so much," Courtney added with a shrug. Honestly, it was just permanent rain and cold back in England, she could really see the appeal. She loved her home country, but the weather was vile.

Salem had never fucked a politician before. He'd never had any intention or interest in fucking a politician until now. She seemed interested, too, no ring on her finger, no reason not to be.
"I guess so." He mused, swishing his drink around in his glass, before he raised it with a coy grin. "To paradise. And whatever we're supposed to be here for." He tacked on, motioning around them.

The more I see the less I know, The more I'd like to let it go "To paradise," the blonde repeated, tapping her own glass against his before draining it, leaving the empty glass on the bar top. She'd get a new one in a minute, Courtney just wanted to see if he offered.
Closing the space between them, the politician placing a hand on his shoulder, leaning inwards slightly before whispering "It's for disabled children by the way, just in case anyone asks you." Then slowly, she allowed her hand to run down his arm, lingering slightly before adding with a smile, "Not that I want anyone else to come over of course."

Salem watched her as he drained his own drink, before he set it in the bar by hers. The buzz set in quickly, and he grinned as her hand grazed his arm, her breath his neck, setting his nerves alight. He hadn't felt this way in a while. While he couldn't complain of the sex he was getting, he could say it didn't excite him like this. Like a drunk teenage boy trying to hit first base. He didn't feel like a rock star sex god, and he was surprisingly content with that.
"You're a life-saver." He said, tone a joking gratefulness, leaning closer. Salem beckoned the bartender over, a drink for the lady, another for himself. Of course he would pay, he could afford plenty more than just a drink for a woman as gorgeous as she was.
"I'd hate to be interrupted." He agreed, and his hand found its way to her hip gently, subtly. His free hand took his drink from the bar, flashed the man behind it a smile. "How about we find somewhere less crowded?" He suggested. Salem could imagine the pictures of them the tabloids would put out. Somehow, it didn't matter - not to him, being seen with Courtney.

The more I see the less I know, The more I'd like to let it go Courtney flashed him a coy smile as his motioned to the bartender to bring them another drink, what a gentleman. "It's no problem," she replied, picking up the glass that had been placed in front of her. She supposed she should thank him for it, but really she had just saved him from possibly making a fool out of himself, so this was just him repaying her.
Humming softly, the blonde began to twirl the tips of Salem's hair around her fingertips as his hand found her hips. It was obvious what he wanted from the evening, but at the current moment she had no intention of giving it to him. Sex was nice but the fun was in the tease after all, he seemed eager so leading him on would be all the more fun.
"Sounds like a superb idea," Courtney agreed. After all, she couldn't really predict how her reputation would be affected by a fling with a rock star, so maybe going somewhere a little more secluded wouldn't be so bad. Besides, it wasn't as if she minded going off with him.
