This was definitely not the beach.
Claudia must have looked out of place, and very lost, peering about behind her sunglasses. She had nothing on but a sheer sundress and her bathing suit underneath. Dressed for anything but a stroll through the south side.
Claudia may have been little more than a tourist, in a city she didn't know where people spoke a language that she didn't know - but she was no fool.
This was definitely not the good part of town either. A few people passed, casting her strange looks, making her clutch her tote back more tightly. She chewed on her lip - how had she managed to get so horribly awfully lost in the first place? Though, that didn't matter now as much as getting out of here did.
She scanned the streets for someone - if she wandered aimlessly any longer, she was afraid she'd end up somewhere even worse.
Spotting a person who maybe might be able to help, Claudia smiled brightly, ran up to tap them on the shoulder.
"Erm... excuse..." I'M THE ONE THAT MAKES YOU SCREAM | Looking between the people that he was walking by looked almost nothing like him. People who were obviously shady, people who were obviously not, Gavin wasn't sure what place he fit in but he was certain he didn't look like the drug dealer looking guy next to him.
At least he didn't look like a drug dealer.
Then there was a tap on his shoulder, and he turned around with a smile. "Yes?" Blue hair, blue eyes, an accent that definitely did not sound like it was from around Nova. "What do you need help with, Ma'am?"
Friendly smile, friendly pose. Gavin was the opposite of intimidating. |

She relaxed, just a bit, when he turned around. He was a man and he was probably stronger than she was, but he was smiling, and Claudia hoped she'd chosen the right person to ask for help.
She nodded, understand the gist of what he was saying - he was willing to help!
"Ah..." Claudia studied her vocabulary, but somehow when it was time to put it to use, all the English she knew had a way of flying right out of her head. "I... I... am lost?" she motioned to herself, her clearly unsuitable clothing. "Do you... Ah..." her brow creased as she tried to recall the right words. "Where is beach?" I'M THE ONE THAT MAKES YOU SCREAM | Whatever it was that she was trying to say, Gavin waited surprisingly patiently for her to find the words for it. To be honest, he wasn't one of the most patient people in the world, but it did seem that this poor girl was genuinely lost. That and she looked a bit out of place with what he guessed was her swimwear, but then again he'd been wrong before.
She said that she was lost, and he had nodded, understanding that much. "The beach..." He echoed, taking a moment to look around as if he were trying to gather his surroundings.
To be honest, Gavin wasn't entirely sure where it was.
"I can walk with you?" Maybe if he started off in a random direction, he'd remember which direction the beach was. |

He repeated her words, and she wondered if maybe she had said something wrong, if he didn't understand, though he didn't ask for clarification. She just rocked back and forth on her heels, looking around as he did.
Walk - she knew that word. Would he walk her there? Her face lit up and she nodded eagerly. "Thank you!" She said enthusiastically - because she was relieved, but also because it was a phrase she could say with confidence. I'M THE ONE THAT MAKES YOU SCREAM | He almost wondered briefly if she was going to walk off, with the way she was bouncing on her heels and looking around. But when she didn't move, and instead she said a very energetic thank you, Gavin gave her a quick nod before stepping in the direction that he thought the beach was.
The keyword there was thought, as he really hoped he wasn't heading in the very very wrong direction and just make a fool of himself. "So, are you meeting anyone at the beach or what?" |

Claudia smiled and waited for him to start walking - she didn't have a clue where they were, after all, but she assumed that he did.
She hitched her beach bag up and followed after him, flip flops slapping against the pavement. He was trying to make small talk, which Claudia didn't mind - it was a chance to practice her English, after all.
Claudia shook her head in response. Though, speaking of practicing English, she realized she hadn't even introduce herself.
"I am Claudia." She told him, pressing a palm flat against her chest - just in case he didn't understand her words, muffled in her thick accent. Then she cocked her head, waiting for him to give his name. I'M THE ONE THAT MAKES YOU SCREAM | Claudia was cute, in that little sister kind of way, Gavin had to give her that. Though, she shook her head to his question, and he almost frowned a little, but her introduction seemed to bring a brighter smile to his face. "Nice to meet you, Claudia." He chuckled, bowing a little as he took a turn. "I'm Gavin."
Turning his head to look over at her, he raised his brow. "So you're just going to the beach alone? Because I can be your friend for the day." |

"Nice to meet... you too." She said, giggling a bit as he bowed like a gentleman. "Ga-vin." Claudia repeated, nodding to reaffirm the name - not too difficult, to pronounce or remember.
She glanced around them at the unfamiliar buildings, then looked back over at him when he spoke, pursing her lips thoughtfully. "Mm-hmm." Claudia had been in Nova Athenis long enough to find her way to the beach. Or so she had thought.
"Friend?" Her eyes lit up. She hadn't made very many friends yet, but that was okay, she would certainly find more once her English improved enough for a conversation. She could understand more than she could speak. "Yes! Friend!" She leaned over to pull him into a sort of walking side hug. [newclass=.pen15 a]font-family:verdana;text-transform:uppercase;font-size:8px;line-height:14px;letter-spacing:1px;text-align:left;padding:10px;height:80px;[/newclass][newclass=.pen15 a:hover]font-family:verdana;text-transform:uppercase;font-size:8px;line-height:14px;letter-spacing:1px;text-align:left;padding:10px;height:80px;[/newclass]

She repeated his name, only making his grin grow wider before he decided that focusing on walking seemed to be the best thing to do or else risk getting both of them lost. Luckily for Claudia, he knew his way around well enough to figure out a general direction after a few familiar buildings passed.
He hadn't realized what he said would have made her happy until she repeated it a few times. "Yes, friends." He managed to squeeze out before she is gave him a side-hug, and somehow Gavin managed to stay upright the whole time. "The only problem is that I don't have a swimsuit."

He seemed confident in where they were headed, and Claudia glanced around - she was glad she had asked, because she still wasn't sure where they were. She released him, and her hand hovered by her mouth as if in surprise, lips curved into a concerned 'o'. Problem?
"Um, but... we can have fun... other things." She tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Not just swim at beach?" She looked up with expectant eyes, hoping he'd agree, hoping that he'd understood.

They could have fun doing other things, but to be honest he wasn't entirely sure what else they'd be able to do at the beach. Except maybe make sand castles, or do just about anything that wasn't swimming - now that he thought about it, there was a lot of things he could have done at the beach that didn't exactly involve swimming.
"I suppose." Somehow, he found that understanding Claudia was easier than certain other people, and he found that he really liked that. "I'm sure we'll find something while we're there, though. That just means we need to get there sooner, though." He chuckled.

As broken as her English was, Gavin didn't seem to have much trouble understanding her, and the lilt of his voice was smooth and slow and clear. Claudia nodded in agreement, looking around - like a wide-eyed tourist - though she was beginning to get a sense of familiarity from their surroundings.
They walked in silence a bit, Claudia chewing over what she might say until she figured out the words and their order. "You are... student, Gavin?" She asked, deciding if they were friends she'd have to get to know more than his name.

It hadn't quite occurred to him that to be considered friends, he would need to know Claudia. He'd have to know her past her name and that she liked going to the beach - and apparently wasn't from around here as she was getting lost. Then again, when it came to the south side of Nova, he was a little more than lost himself.
Spacing out for a moment, he blinked a few times before remembering that Claudia had asked him a question. "A college student, yeah. Going into acting, kind of." A stuntman, to be more precise, but there weren't exactly courses for falling off high places, or getting into a pseudo-car accident. "What about you? Are you a student or what?"

Luckily, Claudia wasn't shy. Not even her poor English stopped her from friendly chatter. She'd never get better if she didn't practice - already she had improved from knowing barely anything to being able to hold down a conversation, at least a casual one like this.
She nodded excitedly. "Will be... actor?"
"No, not student." Claudia replied - she didn't think her English was good enough for that yet. "I ah, bussing tables at Empire Diner." It wasn't anything impressive, but it was a start - maybe she could start waiting tables soon. She didn't mind the hard, messy work - Claudia was used to it.
