The back room was small, cluttered with boxes of dusty, damaged books and documents, but it served well as a place for privacy. This was where Theia was currently, skimming the pages of a book as she flipped them one by one. It was pure, utter fantasy in genre - exactly the kind she'd been looking for.
And just when she'd been getting to the good part, the bell by the front entrance rang. Hesitantly, Theia marked the book and wedged it behind a box. None of the other employees would find it unless they knew where it was.
With somewhat rushed steps, she came out from the back room and almost peeked at the door, searching for the person that had entered. "Hello?"

[attr="class","tagging"]@theia ellies loves books, maybe that's why she happen to wander into the little bookstore that had caught her eye off of the sidewalk. she may not have been able to read yet, but she could pretend!! pretending was always the second best thing to do in her mind. she didn't think anyone would wonder if she wandered in, and she drops the small book in her hand when she heard the hello. "h-hello!" she stutters out. She certainly didn't expect to find a little girl in the store. She walked over and carefully picked up the book, offering it to the child with a smile. The woman almost felt guilty for scaring her.
"Is there something I can help you with?" She asked gently. She wondered where the child's parents were, but saved that thought for another time.

[attr="class","tagging"]@theia ellie's eyes go wide, before she starts fidgeting where she stands, almost avoiding answering the simple question she's been asked. however, after a few minutes of debating, she hesitantly takes the book with an awkwardly forced smile, "u-um.. i'm looking for a book! a really... easy.. book." she says, as her cheeks go bright red. "something.. simple.. and easy.. but also fun!! and exciting!!"why is she so embarrassed? Theia remains patient as the girl finds her voice; she doesn't blame her for being nervous. She already had a pretty good guess as to what the girl might want. And, lucky for the girl, Theia liked helping the kids that came in.
"Well, we have plenty of those kinds of books." She motioned for the girl to follow as she headed towards the kids' section. "What's you name?" Maybe some casual chatter would calm the girl's nerves a bit.

[attr="class","tagging"]@theia ellie's eyes sparkle when she hears they have all sorts of the books she'd like!! a really big smile crosses across her face and she hugs the book in her hands to herself, as if she's already bought it. she's careful not to bend it or ruin any of the pages though!! ellie follows the older girl to the kids' section and quickly starts to look at the shelves, squatting to look at the titles that are slightly lower than her head. she stands up again when the girl asks for her name, and goes a little red. "i-i'm ellie, ellie kor-korta..kortajarena!" she says. she goes a little redder in the cheeks because all the other kids in her class can say their name properly. "w-what's your name?"[newclass=.tagging]background: #000; color: #e2e2e2; text-align: center; padding: 0px 2px; margin-bottom: 25px;[/newclass][newclass=.tagging a]color: #c9c9c9!important; font: 12px times new roman;[/newclass]

Seeing the girl's eyes light up made Theia's stomach turn fuzzy. Call it cliche, but she couldn't help being happy at seeing a small girl so excited about books. She remembered being that age, too - complete with the pigtails and a big toothy grin.
The woman leans down to her knees, meeting eye level with the girl. Theia scans the shelves as well, trying to decide on what genre this girl might like. She turns her head to the girl, nods - her name was Ellie. "My name is Theia." She responds. "It's very nice to meet you, Ellie."
"Now, let's see." She pulls out a few books by the spines, inspecting the titles. "Is there anything specific you might want? Maybe a story about a princess or a dragon?"

[attr="class","tagging"]@theia ellie smiles, "theia is a very nice name! sounds like something out of a fairy tale!"she says as she throws her arms up to show her energy. "o-oh, it's very nice to meet you as well." she says. "are... are there any books about.. um..." ellie trails off a bit, scanning the shelves. "oh! i know.. um.. are there books where a princess saves another princess from an evil prince?!"[newclass=.tagging]background: #000; color: #e2e2e2; text-align: center; padding: 0px 2px; margin-bottom: 25px;[/newclass][newclass=.tagging a]color: #c9c9c9!important; font: 12px times new roman;[/newclass]

"Thank you." She mimics the smile, though it's a very sincere one. She's never had a compliment like that before, let alone from a little girl; but she accepts it nonetheless. A compliment was a compliment.
Theia thought for a moment, scanning the shelves once more. Sadly... "I'm afraid we don't have anything quite like that," Finger trailing the spines, she pulled out a book and held it out. "This book has a princess saving a princess from an evil queen," Another moment of searching, and she pulled out another. "And this one has a princess saving a prince from a dragon."

[attr="class","tagging"]@theia a frown breaks out on ellie's face when she hears that there are no books about a princess saving a princess from an evil prince, but a smaller grin breaks out when she hears there are other stories! "they... they sound so great!" ellie says with a smile. she takes the books that theia has held out to carefully her and sits down on the floor. she starts flipping through the books carefully, before glancing up at theia with a little red blush on her face. "um, i can't... i can't actually... read..." she says, with a little frown with red cheeks. Theia watched Ellie, observed the girl's reaction. If they sounded great, then Theia's job was almost done. But she didn't want to rush it. Let the girl take all the time she needed.
Upon hearing Ellie's flushed statement, Theia furrowed her eyebrows together. "Is there someone at home who can read to you?" She asked. "Maybe your Mom or your Dad?"

ellie sits and thinks about the girls' question for quite a while.
her mama - or so she thinks - would read to her! she's sure about that, but the question is if she wants her mama to read to her. she doesn't want to have to rely on her mama to read her bedtime stories, she's a big girl!
her daddy wouldn't read to her, not now, probably not ever. her daddy isn't the type to read her bedtime stories, he's not even around at bedtime sometimes! most of the time actually, rarely ever, never really.
either way, he'd never do it. not now, not ever.
"my mama is home, but i don't want her to read to me. i want to learn all by myself." elliesays, attempting to act like the little independent girl she is. "and my daddy... my daddy wouldn't read to me... ever."
ellie feels a little sad when she says the last bit of her sentence. sure, she wants to learn to read by herself, but that doesn't mean she doesn't like the idea of a family member reading to her, especially her daddy.
"u-um... can you teach me to read, miss theia?" ellie asks, with big, curious, innocent eyes. "my teacher says i'm not ready, but i think i am!"

Theia waits, grows worried when she’s not given an immediate answer. Of course, the girl was young, but if she had to think about it this long…
Worry puddled in the pit of her stomach.
The woman almost sighed of relief when Ellie spoke of her Mother. So, there was someone at home that could. Her heart sinks a bit at the latter part.
She tries to remind herself that this girl was another customer, no matter what age. There wasn’t much she thought she could do. That didn’t change that she still wanted to help Ellie.
So she nearly jumps at the chance when Ellie asks her to teach her to read; but she stops herself to think it through. The best time would probably be during her work hours, here at the shop. Theia doubted that Ellie would get up as early as she did, nor stay up as late. Most likely the boss wouldn’t mind if the girl hung around during afternoons; the old man was fairly lax. As long as she didn’t let lessons hinder her job performance, things could work out just fine.
”I’d love to teach you. But you should ask your Mother to make sure it’s alright, okay?” The last thing Theia wanted was for an angry, misinformed parent to come in and make a ruckus. ”We can work out the details after that.”

ellie's big brown eyes go a little sad when theia says that she needs to ask her mama.
"can't we keep this a secret?" she asks. "just between you and me? without asking mama?"
she wants it to be a secret, something to surprise her mama with! something to show that she's a big girl! something to prove that she can do this all by herself without anyone else's help.
"pleeeeease?" ellie begs.

The responsible part of Theia—a big part, at that—knows that telling Ellie's mother would be the right thing to do. But she doesn't want to have to say no; which after a moment of consideration, she was about to do. And then Ellie begs, and Theia really can't say no to those eyes.
"Alright," Theia gives in, sighing a smile. "We won't tell your Mother." She examined the clock on a wall. "When would you like to start?"
