Most days Jamie avoids attention, because it's usually bad. Harper's attention is on him in a way he's not used to – a good way. He's been taught that nice people are suspicious people, and he's never really had friends. He doesn't really go out of his way to make friends, so he's surprised that someone like Harper seems so interested in him. Thinks he's cool. "Cool?" He repeats, as if it’s the first time he's heard the word. "Er, thanks." He's a bit disbelieving. Not sure if Harper means it or not. @nan02

LET'S BE ALONE TOGETHER, WE COULD BE YOUNG FOREVER "Cool?"
Harper nods, rather enthusiastically, like there couldn't be anything more right in the world. "Er, thanks."
Harper frowns a little bit, Jamie sounds like he doesn't believe him. Oh god, Harper frets, what if Jamie thinks Harper isn't being honest?
"I'll be honest and say you're the first friend," Is it okay to call Jamie that? "I've made all year, and you're really nice and you haven't hit me or yelled at me, and, I should stop while I'm ahead, but um, you didn't sound like you were convinced I was being honest so what I'm trying to say is, I, very honestly think you're the coolest dude around and I hope we can talk more often."
Harper goes a little red in the cheeks from his rather honest speech. He regrets it, but at least any doubt Jamie has of his honestly has been erased. By god, what if Jamie thinks he's weird or something, gods did he just lose his first friend. Harper is now mentally screaming at himself in regret. JAMIE MARTINELLILAIKA OF GS!

Jamie doesn't think he'd make a very good friend – there must be a reason he doesn't have any. But he doesn't want to explain that to Harper. That he hallucinates when he doesn't sleep, that he never has enough energy for anything. Harper bursts with energy and enthusiasm, enough for the both of them. He thinks a lot of Jamie, it seems – a lot of good. It takes Jamie a bit of time to absorb what he's saying because they are not words that Jamie hears a lot, not in relation to himself. Friends. Nice. Cool. Friends. While Harper seems a nervous rambler, Jamie's words slip back down his throat and he's not quite sure what to say. Well, that he likes Harper too, but that seems a little strange. Though, Jamie has always been strange. "I like you. Too."@nan02

"I like you. Too."A grin breaks out on Harper's face. He's never felt so relieved before. His cheeks return to their normal colour and he sighs in relief. It's a nice feeling. Having someone like you too, having a friend. ”So Jamie, what kind of hobbies do you have?” Harper asked. That was something you asked a friend right? Or did you just learn each other’s hobbies as you went along. Gosh, Harper never realised how awkward he was until now. Sure, he has had friends, but wow, he never realised he had always been this weird with them. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t have friends? Then he rethinks that thought and remembers who his is and what he’s well-informed with and how many times he was slapped today. He figures his lack of friends has to do with his social awkwardness and the pick-up lines he spurs. Maybe he should go see the school’s guidance councillor about this. | They may have been in the same, friendless boat, but they clearly have different sentiments about it. Harper is carrying the whole conversation, and Jamie is following along, though he isn't used to anyone really caring about what he has to say, what he likes or wants or does in his free time.
He doesn't even know how to answer. He stares down at the wood of his desk, at the whorls and lines and patterns. For a moment, it seems that he's forgotten about the conversation.
"Not many." He says, as his eyes follow a particular line over the edge of the desk. He shrugs and looks at Harper.

"Not many.""Yeah, I don't have many either." Harper says. "I play soccer sometimes, at the house, with some of the staff."Harper tries to not act too excited about soccer, but he really likes it! It's probably one of the few things he can say he's decent at. He's no pro, but he's not horrible either. He wonders if Jamie is good at soccer, or if he even plays the sport at all! It'd be really awesome if Jamie played soccer too. "You should come over one day! We can play soccer together." He suggests with a smile. "If you want though, it's okay if you don't like soccer and stuff. It's not something everyone enjoys."
"Um, you could still come over though! We could do homework together or something, I-I don't know." Ahh, Harper feels like he's just made a fool of himself. | Strangely, Harper doesn't seem put off by anything Jamie says. Not his lack of hobbies or his lack of anything to say. It's sort of nice.
When Harper says staff, Jamie knows he must be rich. Jamie is rich too, though perhaps too ragged to look the part. Back in Italy, he had staff too, though here he's pretty much his family's servant. Someone or other is picking on him or bossing him around whenever he's home.
So Harper's offer actually sounds pretty good to him.
"Sure. Sometime." He says earnestly. Soccer doesn't seem like anything he'd be good at, but it can't be any worse than stumbling around at the whims of his family. He knows that he'd never invite Harper over.

a grin spreads across harper's face. jamie agreed!! he actually, really, honestly, agreed! well, he agreed they should do it sometime, but it's still better than nothing! harper is very excited, but he tries to contain himself.
he's sure the staff will be just as excited as him when they hear he's bringing a friend over. he can't think of anything to say, so he just sits with a stupid grin on his face.
OI KIDS, GET OUT DETENTION IS OVER the teacher yells.
harper winces and notes how he's staring right at jamie and himself. he thinks maybe he's over stayed his stay, and gets up and collects his things as quickly as he can. he turns to jamie and offers him an awkward smile, "s-see you later, jamie!"
the teacher yells once again - harper thinks it's directly at him by the look in his teacher's eye - and rushes out the door, not waiting for jamie.
the only thought in his head, is that he's got a friend.
