The bar was a small one, tucked just off the beaten path. Mathilde knew every bar on the island, and her favourites were the noisest, the most chaotic - sports bars and raver clubs, but this was more suited for a date. More intimate.
She wore jeans, her top was sleeveless - all in black, like the tattoo that wound around her upper arm, all offset by her white skin and red lipstick. Contrast. Just like Aura, bubble gum and fairy floss, the bob of pastels Mathilde watched for from the corner of her eye.

It took every ounce of courage in her body but Aura had dialed the number. The phone rang a few times before Mathilde picked up and she barely squeaked out a voice until she was able to find it again. All things considered, though, the phone call had gone pretty well. She had a date, after all.
Well, Aura was tentative to call it a date. She didn't want to get her own hopes up; this could be purely platonic to Mathilde. And she would be okay with that! Making friends was always great, even though Aura wasn't very good at it. Still, the other woman had obviously seen something in Aura, whether it be friendly or a bit more than friendly, since she'd given the girl her phone number.
They agreed to meet at a bar, even though Aura was exceedingly nervous about going to one. It would be alright, she reassured herself about a thousand times. The weather was warm and balmy that night and a flouncy, sleevless mint-green dress adorned her body. Her hair was down, thick and curly and billowing like cotton candy behind her, her bangs pinned back (because she was actually a bit proud of the eye makeup she'd done tonight).
Finally she found Mathilde, waiting for her a little ways into the establishment. Walking up to her, she unconsciously smoothed her hair down a little and adjusted the cross-body strap of her purse nervously all while she tried to smile at the other woman.
"Um, hi," she stuttered out lamely. "It's nice to see you again..."
And that was the truth. Aura was nervous about this entire situation, but she was more than excited to see Mathilde again. She didn't really know why.

Mathilde didn't drift too far from the doorway - while her own safety rarely seemed a determining factor in where she went, she wasn't going to be held accountable for anything going wrong tonight. Usually she didn't care about other people at all.
But sometimes she did.
Aura looked sweet as ever, and Mathilde returned the smile with a vague hunger in the curl of her lips.
"You look good." She said in way of greeting, nodding towards the bar's interior to lead Aura to a table. She didn't seem the decisive sort, so Mathilde chose a booth they could have to themselves, sliding into a seat.
Her purse was a beaded black clutch, and she popped it open to pull her cased smokes and lighter - it was all cased in sleek black, and before a waiter came over, she offered the cigarette pack to Aura, more as a courtesy than anything.

A blush came to Aura's cheeks when Mathilde complimented her. She'd tried hard to look nice tonight, and had spent hours doing her hair and makeup. It was nice to know that her efforts hadn't been completely wasted.
"Th-thank you," she stuttered out. "You look...well, you look beautiful."
Aura was never so forward, but the words tumbled out of her mouth before she could stop it. The flushing in her cheeks deepened and she looked away a little bit, practically cursing herself in her head for saying something so stupid, so forward and uncalled for. It's not like it wasn't true but she didn't want to say anything like that.
When Mathilde led them into a booth she slid into the seat across from Mathilde, setting her own bag on the seat next to her. Mathilde offered a cigarette to her and she just shook her head, looking down. Maybe this was some kind of test? Maybe Mathilde would -
No. Aura was just nervous and she was making herself crazy.
"So, um..." she said, trying to get her mind off of itself. However, she had no idea what to say. "How've you been?"

She surveyed Aura, the flush in her cheeks, with a smile and a cigarette between her lips. Of course she didn’t smoke - Aura looked too good a girl to ever do something so revolting and bad.
She lit up and took a drag, feeling the smoke settling into her lungs; maybe she was always so calm because she was always smoking. Mathilde replaced her things in her purse and shut it with a click. Now she could give Aura her full attention.
"I'm doing well." Mathilde answered, realizing just how little they really knew of each other. And that was what they were here for - the small talk was weary, and Mathilde could tell the other woman didn't seem to know what else to say.
Aura had made a few emboldened moves to get them here, and now Mathilde supposed it was her turn. She leaned across the table with a smile, cigarette in her hand while the other waved over a waiter. "How about a game?"

Aura watched a little as she shut her purse, cigarette still clamped between her lips. There was an odd beauty about Mathilde, even when she was smoking. Aura wasn't a fan of the habit, actually, but the lazy smoke curling from Mathilde's painted red lips was mesmerizing.
As she waved over a waiter, the dark-haired woman mentioned a game. She was curious, and cocked her head to the side, purple curls falling over one shoulder. What kind of game did the woman have in mind, especially at a restaurant?
"Um, sure," she said with a shy smile. "What game are we going to play?"

Aura looked intrigued, though she seemed intrigued with everything, the way Mathilde lit her cigarettes and crossed her legs. It was flattering, and Mathilde found herself similarly absorbed. Aura was far from Mathilde's type, but she was pretty and surprisingly forward.
"You know this one." Mathilde assured her. "Two truths and a lie." She wasn't always interested in getting to know her company, or letting her company get to know her. But they had ended up dolled up and sharing a table knowing little more than each other's names; and Mathilde wanted the rest out of the way. "Except with drinks." She added. A waiter had come along, and Mathilde cast a knowing smile across the table before giving her order.

Pf course, two truths and a lie. It was a simple game and she'd played it before in school, though playing it here and now with Mathilde was certainly going to be a different experience. She'd always thought of it as a kid game, but it was probably going to be fun nonetheless - besides, she was eager to learn more about Mathilde, even if she'd never really admit it out loud.
But when she said that there were going to be drinks involved, her stomach sank a little. Aura never really drank anything. Most alcohol was too bitter and she couldn't handle very much of it before she started to feel funny, and she wasn't sure if she was going to like this as much or not.
"O-oh," she stammered, clearly looking a bit nervous about what was going to happen. "Does it have to be with drinks...?"
Still, maybe it would be fun, but Aura was just worried about what would happen if she managed to drink too much and ended up saying something stupid or got sick or whatever and made herself look like a complete idiot in front of Mathilde. That was the last thing she'd want.

Mathilde saw the worry strike Aura as soon as she learned alcohol was involved. She really was so innocent, and part of her liked it, just as another part of Mathilde wanted to corrupt it. Not in any big way - she didn't want to turn Aura into another shit-for-brains bar floozy, just get her to have a little fun. Mathilde smoked like a chimney and went into sleazy bars and side streets on her own, but rarely drank past the point of tipsy. She was sober, sombre.
"It'll be more fun that way." She leaned forward with an encouraging smile curled on her lips. "And it doesn't have to be strong. We can get a bottle of wine." Mathilde suggested, reaching out to brush Aura's hair back over her shoulder with a light touch.

When Mathidle's fingers brushed over her shoulder, goosebumps formed on her porcelain skin as a chill went over her body. With her big round eyes she looked up at the other woman, the mysterious and dark woman she was dining with, and it was impossible to just say no. Some kind of magnetism drew her in and wanted her to play along, even though she would never do anything like that, usually, in a million years.
"I suppose...that could be fun," she said, unable to keep herself from smiling a little with Mathilde's curled red lips. And maybe it really would be fun. Maybe things would go swimmingly and she would be asked on another date, or something like that. The thought sent a little color to her cheeks and she tried to brush it off with a slight giggle.
"So how do we play this game with drinks now...?" she asked as she waited for the waiter to bring them their wine and glasses.

She could feel Aura shiver, as if her hands were cold, though Mathilde didn't seem to notice as she turned her sly smile to the waiter and selected a a bottle of wine, folded her menu and slipped it to the table's edge.
Aura was still uncomfortable with the idea, but Mathilde wasn't forcing her into anything. If she wanted to, she could have stood up and walked out, but she wasn't going to do that, of course not. It was clear her interest was returned, and Mathilde took a slow drag, letting the smoke waft lazily from her lips as she watched the other woman, who was blushing already. "If you guess wrong, you take a drink. If you tell the truths from the lies, you don't." She said simply, quirking a brow and waiting for confirmation before the waiter returned.
Mathilde watched him fill their glasses, licking her lips slightly, they tasted bitter of her lipstick. "Should I go first?"

Aura listened intently as the other woman explained the game. It was fairly simple, though she was still kind of nervous. Drinking wasn't one of Aura's regular activities, so she was scared of making a fool of herself in front of Mathilde. She wasn't even sure if Mathilde would care, really.
At least it was just wine and not anything too hard. She watched as the deep red liquid sloshed into each glass, watching as the drops fell back on one another as it poured out of the bottle with a deep glug. Mesmerized for a moment she snapped out of it when Mathilde said she would go first.
"Right, um, that would probably be best," she said with a nod, as she still had to think up some things about herself for the other to guess. Hopefully she wouldn't mess up too much. Preparing herself she sat up a bit more and folded her hands in her lap, only because they were shaking ever so slightly and she didn't want the other woman to see.

Mathilde wrapped her fingers around the stem of the glass and pulled it closer carefully. She stared into the glass as if searching for a fortune, she rapped her nails lightly on the table while she watched the wine settle as if Aura wasn't there. She thought of what to say.
"First, I was born in Chicago." Mathilde began, tapping out the ashes of her cigarette into the tray. "Second, I have two cats." She brought it back to her lips for a drag. "Third, I'm in medical school." That wasn't two truths and a lie. But Aura couldn't possibly know that.
Mathilde leaned back in her seat and raised her eyes to meet Aura's finally, waiting for her guess.

This was going to be tough. Any one of those could be a lie or a truth, and since Aura knew next to nothing about the woman she was stumped. She really didn't want to pick wrong so she had to take a drink, but her odds weren't looking very good. So, for a while she pondered.
"Um...you have two cats?" she finally asked after a little thinking. Honestly, she had no idea, but for some reason Mathilde seemed like a person who wouldn't have any pets. It was just a feeling she got, but it wasn't like the other two were completely off the charts either.
Still, she couldn't help but be a bit worried she had made the wrong choice completely, and would therefore make herself look like an idiot after only a few sips of wine.

Mathilde wasn't sure why she'd lied to make to easier on Aura, and she hadn't given that part much thought. Maybe to put her at ease.
"I'm not an animal person." She admitted, raising her glass in a toast with a small smile as she tipped the glass back and took a long swallow of wine, watching Aura from under her lashes. She carefully put the glass back down, the rim marked with lipstick and her lips stained with wine.
That had been a lie, but she didn't elaborate on anything she'd said. "Your turn." She must have wanted to make Aura comfortable, she must have wanted to know about her too.
