She let herself be escorted off the grounds by Lucie. At this point she kind of wanted to be babied a bit more and get more out of it, but knew it was wrong and decided not to. A small smile crossed the girl's face, but quickly left after going home was mentioned.
Midori tried to be as independent as possible. The less people did for her, the less they wanted in return. She felt like Lucie was going to want something back, too.
"My house is only about nine blocks away, I think I can walk," she said, shrugging. Then she realized how heavy her backpack was and added "Or maybe not."

Lucie couldn't help but giggle a little when Midori realized how heavy her backpack was, but it was not a laugh to make fun of the little girl. Sometimes Lucie just forgot that Midori was just a kid with how grown-up she acted, so it was cute when she did act a little more her age.
"Well, I'm more than happy to give you a ride home," she said. "It will take no time, since you live so close."
They were approaching the staff parking lot and Lucie stopped at the edge of the pavement, waiting for Midori to make a decision. She was obviously willing to help the girl out but if she didn't want help, the pinkette obviously couldn't make her.

She'd take a ride, the little girl decided. If she wasn't home soon, her parents would probably be worried. They were writing anime reviews and scanlating, so it wasn't like they had anything better to do and could come get her every day.
"I guess I'll take you up on that, then," Midori said, sheepishly. She walked towards the car that she'd Lucie come to school late in once, and waited for Lucie to unlock it.
"Thanks for everything, by the way." It felt like that she owed at least this to her teacher for everything.
