There had been no conviction in his tone, nothing that made it sound believable, especially not to Nevada. Angel's life was ruined. It was a vain thought, but that was all he had and all that he'd ever had. His good looks. His pretty face and his blonde hair and his charming smile. He had been perfect, if only in one sense.
Now he had nothing. He felt Nevada's eyes on him and it made him sick to think of what it was he was seeing. Angel just shook his head again, vehemently, buried his face in his hands. Nevada was going to leave. He thought of the way he'd pushed him away, the way he'd had enough, and he thought of how he would never visit again, the way Nevada would throw away all of his things and go back to normal and pretend he'd never been there because he was, himself, something scabbed and ugly on the surface of Nevada's perfect life. He was ruined. Everything was ruined.

Total despair flickered across Angel’s face before he brought his hands up to it. Nevada didn’t know what was behind it, what made him so upset. He couldn’t even begin to think of how to make everything better. Angel needed to speak to him to tell him what was wrong, what he needed Nevada to do for him. But he wasn’t speaking. He merely hid behind his hands. “Angel,” He started. No other words came to mind. He couldn’t find anything to say that could bring the blonde comfort when he didn’t even know what was wrong. Begging Angel to tell him the problem wasn’t working either. He had even refused food. Nevada just didn’t know what to do. ANGEL ALESSI

Nevada was still there, even when Angel wouldn't say anything, wouldn't do anything but curl into himself and hide his face. When he finally raised his head, it was to spit out, "Leave."
Almost as soon as the word left his lips, he regretted it. He didn't want to be seen, but he was even more terrified at the prospect of Nevada leaving - and not coming back. Already, he was scrambling to grab Nevada by the arm, keep him there.
"Do you..." He drew a choking gasp of a breath. "You love me?" Angel tried not to sound so small and pitiful, injecting what little confidence he could muster into his tone.

Nevada recoiled at the single word Angel spit out. Leave? He wanted him to leave? His heart felt as if it were crushing into itself with a well of panic and worry rising up around it. Had he been too harsh? Did Angel hate him even more now? He nodded numbly, rising up from his seat only for his wrist to be snatched up. Nevada’s eyes widened as he glance to Angel. His lips parted to speak, but Angel spoke first and his eyebrows knitted together. “I do. Of course I do, Angel. I love you more than anything in this world.”ANGEL ALESSI

He could feel his heart hammering in his chest, anxiety swelling as Nevada met his eyes. Nevada had seen him at his worst, and Nevada was his last hope. He told Angel what he wanted to hear, and he meant it. Angel kept a vicelike grip on Nevada's wrist, tugging him closer to the bed.
His eyes were glassy with tears but his gaze had sharpened, along with his tone when he next spoke.
"Let's get married."

They hung in a moment of silence. Nevada was anchored by the hand clasp tightly around his wrist without any sign of letting go. He could do nothing but wait on the blonde. Angel’s eyes were glassy yet he held his gaze and he swore he caught a glimpse of something else in them. When Angel finally spoke, he was caught off guard. “Married?” Let’s get married. Had he heard that right? There was a list of three word phrases he thought Angel would never say and ‘let’s get married’ was at the top. “Do you mean it?” Nevada asked cautiously, unsure if this was real or some kind of game. “Are you feeling well?”ANGEL ALESSI

He didn't know what he expected of Nevada, but his hesitance unnerved Angel, slackened his grip. He almost pulled his hand back. He'd never thought he'd be asking Nevada to marry him, but the reaction was underwhelming.
He wanted to say something, but his nerves choked him, his throat felt closed. Was this the part where Nevada told him no? Was this the breaking point, where Nevada admitted he didn't want Angel any more? He wanted to say something, but he just nodded instead, pleaded with his eyes.

A part of Nevada was sure this was some joke, that Angel would laugh at him the second he said yes. But as he looked at Angel’s face and noted the slackening of his hand, he couldn’t dismiss it as such. The blonde meant it. For whatever reason, he truly meant it. Nevada wanted to believe that wholeheartedly. If it indeed was a joke, he was sure he wouldn’t recover from the heartache. “Do you really mean it?” He said finally when no dismissing comment came past Angel’s parted lips. He placed his free hand over the one clasping his arm. “I want nothing more than to marry you Angel.” He was the love of his life, after all—if not his only love. “I have loved you for a long time and have longed to call you mine.” Even if he was still a bit skeptical about the proposal, he wanted it to be real. It was silent, and more than was usual, Angel had the overwhelming urge to scream, to ripple the stillness.
Nevada was sceptical, and Angel was in over his head - he'd never imagined a proposal, only dreaded it. The hand on his was something more familiar, easy to respond to. He let go of Nevada's wrists, linked their fingers together instead.
"Let's do it." Angel was having trouble feeling the weight of his words, and that made it easier to say them. He nodded assuredly, mostly for his own sake.

He expected Angel to laugh, to say he was joking—something. But he didn’t. Nevada’s heart began to hammer excitedly in his chest while his stomach bubbles with nervousness. Angel meant it. He really wanted to get married. Nevada leaned in and pressed a kiss to Angel. “I will find the perfect engagement ring for you.” He smiled at the blonde with both hands clasping his. “And we will beginning planning the wedding when you are released to go home.” ANGEL ALESSI

Nevada probably already had the dream wedding in mind, while Angel could feel a knot of dread in the pit of his stomach already. He didn't want to get married, he couldn't even begin to think of marriage now, not while he was still tethered to a hospital bed, not while he might not ever be pretty enough to face the world.
Angel pulled his expression into a smile. He had meant to tell Nevada, but now he was afraid to, afraid he'd change his mind. So he just smiled and held Nevada's hands, not sure what else there was to say, not sure he'd be able to keep himself from blurting it out if he spoke any more. He leaned in a kissed Nevada again.
