| | | Here we are now, entertain us I feel stupid and contagious Here we are now, entertain us | Kieran normally didn't mix drugs like this. It was dangerous, you know, and sometimes bad shit could happen. But he'd tried ecstasy a few times and he'd obviously been on speed before, so what would be the worst that could happen if he had both at once?
A really good time. That's what he was hoping for, anyways.
The redhead made his way into the club, and (already coasting off of his earlier high) he accepted the pastel colored tablet that was offered to him shortly after entering. Kieran was feeling good right now, and it didn't take long after he'd ingested the pill for the effects to start taking over.
After a while he drifted off the dance floor, needing some hydration and to get his damned hair off his neck. Ordering a drink he fished a ponytail holder from out of his pocket and tied his hair up at the nape of his neck into some kind of messy...bun, for lack of a better word, and waited for his beverage. Kieran thought he was all smiles and happiness right now, but to the rest of the world he probably looked like a train wreck...and he pretty much was, to be honest.

Everybody around her was so fucked up. Mathilde had only had a couple drinks – tipsy enough not to mind the frenzy around her, but sober enough not to take any part in it. She wasn't quite sure why she was in this sort of company. Maybe it made her feel calm, like the eye of the storm, like a pearl in the middle of things with her hair still sleek and set in place and unsmeared make up.
They guy beside her was high, sweaty and grinning like an idiot. He seemed like he cleaned up good, though. She rested her chin in her palm as he slid onto the stool beside her, considered him with a smile.
Only a few seconds of thought before she took a sip of her drink and leaned over to him. "Is that your natural colour?" She cooed, terribly impressed.

| | | Here we are now, entertain us I feel stupid and contagious Here we are now, entertain us | Damn, he was really sweaty. That was kind of gross. Not that he was any stranger to it, having lived in the hot south as well as being cooped up in a metal death trap during the throes of summer. Even so, it wasn't pleasant, but in his state, Kieran didn't really care.
When he heard a voice next to him, he turned to look at the girl who was apparently sitting on the stool next to him. How long had she been there? It didn't matter. Despite his (more than likely) horrible appearance, he pushed back some of the crimson strands of hair that had fallen into his eyes, running his fingers through it as he processed her comment.
"Damn straight," he slurred, a smirk trying to form on his lips. "I'm all natural, baby, head to toe."
Getting his drink (he was smart enough to ask for water, at least) he took a drink and it wasn't until that moment that he realized just how thirsty he had been. Taking a few big gulps he set the glass down and panted slightly, still terribly warm.
"So what's a pretty little thing like you doing at a place like this?" he said, drawling out the terribly cliche line.

She uncrossed and crossed her legs as he spoke, chuckling a little – she was more entertained than charmed, but he probably couldn't tell the difference. He probably thought she was going to sleep with him.
But Mathilde wasn't really into junkies, at least not while they were high. Who knew what they would do to a poor helpless girl like her. And he definitely was, gulping water like a man stranded in the desert. Why she was here, why she was talking to him was really beyond her. She didn't like people, she spent her days between the dead and the unhinged. But a place like this wasn't any place to be analytical.
"Same as everyone else." She said, plucking the olive from her martini and pushing it past her lips with delicate fingers. "Looking for a good time."

| | | Here we are now, entertain us I feel stupid and contagious Here we are now, entertain us | He watched out of the corner of his eyes as she popped the olive in her mouth, a little smirk pulling at his lips (or, what he assumed to be a smirk. In reality it probably looked significantly less sly). This girl was the definition of dark and mysterious and Kieran would've had to be an idiot not to be at least a little intrigued.
"This place is full of good times," he responded after taking another drink of water. "I'm havin' a pretty damn good one right now, anyways."
These days, though, there weren't many nights when Kieran wasn't under the influence of something. Oh, how far he'd fallen. But substances certainly had a way of doing that, and doing it so sneakily that the user didn't really realize what a hold they had until it was too late. But the redhead wasn't ready to give up just yet.
He was finally out of the public eye, after all. Granted that race car drivers weren't top tier celebrities, but they certainly were treated like that in the racing community. While he knew he wouldn't be appearing on E! News any time soon (thank God for that, actually) he had been bombarded with questions after his suspension. That's why escaping for Nova Athenis had been so good for him...or, so he thought.
"So, what's your name, pretty thing?" he asked after a moment, looking up at her with his wild, dilated eyes. He certainly looked like a wreck, but he couldn't have felt more confident.

He was grinning like an idiot, and she humoured him, licking the juice from her fingertips before she folded her hands in her lap. She gave an amused laugh when he said he was having a good time. Mathilde smoked like a chimney and drank more than a lady should, but she wasn't interested in getting wasted or high. She liked to stay in control, like she was now.
"I'm Mathilde." She curled her fingers around her drink, tilted her head back and finished it, placing it carefully back onto the bar with a smile and a pointed glance his direction. "And you?"

She was just playing him now, but the redhead couldn't help but stare just a little bit. Her fingers were thin and lithe and his eyes trailed down with them as she folded her hands in her lap, a wider smirk tugging at his lips now.
"Mathilde, huh?" he said, slurring his words a bit around her name. It wasn't the easiest word to pronounce in his state. "That's a nice name. Sounds exotic or something. Damn hard to say, though." What would he do when he discovered there was an "h" in it?
"I'm Kieran Donagh." He pushed some hair out of his face again and took another ravenous drink of his water. A simple enough sentence that carried absolutely no weight here. He loved it.

He stumbled over her name, but she just smiled and nodded, laughing as if he'd said something particularly clever and funny. He was probably trying to tell Mathilde that she was exotic rather than her name. She should have been annoyed, but there wasn't much reason to be - the guy was high off his ass and she could have her fun with him.
"A pleasure." She replied as he introduced himself. Mathilde caught the eye of the bartender, gave a small nod and watched him go about fixing her another drink for a second before looking back at Kieran. She didn't want to give him the idea that she was too interested. No point in raising his expectations. Not too high.
Mathilde tilted her head. "So, Mister Kieran Donagh, are you from around here?"

Kieran considered himself pretty lucky, since the woman hadn't run away yet. Sure, he was acting stupid because he was high, but it wasn't that bad, he reassured himself. Just the fact that she was actually willing to talk to him was a win in his book. Man, he'd sank low. Just talking to a woman was good enough for him. Then again, however, it's not like he'd necessarily oppose if she wanted to do anything more.
She laughed as he spoke, and that only boosted his confidence level more, unaware that it wasn't necessarily sincere. He couldn't tell the difference. As he drank more water, slurping it down thirstily, his hair became loose and he reached behind his head to tie it up a little tighter, the messy loops of hair cascading over his shoulder blades and neck.
"I'm not," he responded, still out of breath just a little. It's like he couldn't catch it fast enough. "From the States, moved out here recently to get away and relax. Guess I'm not doing very well on the relaxing part huh?"
Smirking, he drained his glass and hailed for another, grabbing it hungrily when the bartender handed it over. Kieran was unbelievably parched, and he couldn't get the water down fast enough. He needed to rehydrate soon so he could go out and dance more, but sticking around at the bar was proving to be a lot more interesting than the dance floor.
"How about you, Mathilde?" he responded, still tripping over her name with his heavy tongue.

The party scene around Nova was a lively one, with an endless flow of tourists who broke up the monotony of the locals who all knew each other by now. Mathilde hadn't seen this guy around before, and she got the feeling she knew his answer before he gave it.
"You look like you're pretty relaxed." She noted with a smirk. He was high as shit, but that hardly constituted working.
"It's a funny story, actually..." The bartender slid her drink across the bar, and she traced a finger around the rim idly, staring absently out at the bottles lined across the back of the bar as if remembering fondly. "I was going to get married here."

He laughed a little, though it didn't sound as refined as it did in his head. He was definitely a hot mess right now, but relaxed...maybe. He really wanted to dance or move or do something, but he was floating on a cloudy river of euphoria and he really didn't want to empty out into the ocean of coming down.
And then Mathilde turned the conversation on it's head. Kieran's eyes widened at her admittance, half thinking that something like that was horrible and half thinking that it was weird that she said something so personal. But it's not like he was going to care about it, he barely cared about the fact that he was sweaty and disheveled, something he usually didn't like.
"Really?" he asked, very surprised and intrigued. His voice said it all. "But...why would you get married inside of a club?"
Kieran was, of course, ever observant.

She was hardly a compulsive liar, but it was hard to resist messing around with guys like this, guys who'd believe anything. The truth was a dull one, anyways.
Mathilde rolled her eyes, taking a sip of her drink before she went on, patient and gentle as she explained. "Not in the club," This guy was really far gone. "The island."
"A wedding on the beach. Honeymoon here in paradise. Romantic, right?" Mathilde's dreamy smile dropped off into a frown. "And the bastard got cold feet. Would you believe it?" She fixed Kieran with a steely look of displaced anger.

Kieran listened intently as she spoke, waiting for the plot twist. Besides, she said she was going to get married here, not that she was married or is married. The romantic side of him swelled as she spoke, imagining how perfect and romantic it would've been, especially on the beach. Even in a club. Anywhere.
Marriage was a foreign yet delicious concept to Kieran. A romantic at heart, he always thought that it would happen some day, but some day was still far off in the future for him. He usually kept the softer side to him toned down — you know, because men aren't allowed to be romantic and soft — but in his state he couldn't help but smile a little...until she mentioned that he left her.
"Really?" he cried out, almost too loud. "What a complete asshole! I mean, leaving someone as beautiful as you," he said, giving her a quick wink before he continued on his tirade, "is completely fuckin' stupid."
He hoped his emphatic declaration of being on her side would remove the angry and upsetting look from her face, though if he were sober he shouldn't have had such high hopes.

He seemed invested in her words, a perfect audience giving a perfectly overblown reaction. She flashed a bitter smile at the compliment. "Right?" Mathilde paused to swallow down her drink as if swallowing down her grief.
"So," She uncrossed and recrossed her legs, surveyed Kieran. "What are you getting away from?" Everybody loved a sad story.

He sighed, leaning back as his muddled brain tried to think and sort out his own story. Things might get a little colorful since he was past gone at the moment, but that would only make things more interesting, right?
"Well," he said, as if he were starting the best story in the entire universe. "I used to be a race car driver in the States, you know, NASCAR and shit." NASCAR was a big part of his life, and it was difficult to talk about it in such a blase manner these days.
"Anyway, things were goin' great. I had a house in Florida, and I was doin' good on races, and I had like thirty girlfriends. I'm not lyin'. Okay, maybe not thirty but you know what, that's close enough." Colorful, indeed. "But then everything kind of, uh, went to shit."
He ran his fingers through his hair, tripping over his words as he became a bit visibly more distressed. Kieran tried to play it off, but he couldn't lie right now. Not in a state like this. All but losing his job took a toll on him, and he missed it. He couldn't pretend not to, not at the moment.
"I got into this crash, that's how I got the eyepatch, and then there was this big drug scandal...I was suspended, fuckin' assholes suspended me." Anger always helped. "So I just packed up and left everyone and came here to get away."
