It was another weekend of not really having anything to do. His homework was all set and done. He only had one student to tutor today in the morning and that was over and done with as well. So with nothing else on his schedule, Luke did what he always did when he had free time. He went outside to survey the area with his camera.
Rounding the corner, Luke came to a halt when he spotted a tuft of blonde hair as well as an all too familiar skateboard beside the blonde. The thought of perhaps just quietly walking past Killian came into mind - it would save him from a lot of noises and trouble - but the guy was crouched down observing something.
Allowing his curiosity to get the better of him this time, Luke made his way over to his childhood friend to look over him. In front of the blonde was puppy, apparently a serbian husky, wagging it's tail in the cardboard box.
He instinctively lifted his camera up and set the shutter into life, announcing his presence to the other male. After years spent with his camera, it had become a habit now to lift and click the device whenever he spotted something new.
Without even bothering to greet Killian, Luke took a step closer to the box and crouched down in front if it next to his friend. He reached out to pet the puppy, earning a cheerful bark. He couldn't say why exactly he loved skateboarding so much, but one of the reasons probably would be that it beat walking. The pavement was flat and he was sailing along, hoping onto the empty pavement to sail down there, headphones on full blast and he couldn't help but feel like this was some kind of a scene from a movie. A cheesy romance flick or something dumb like that, it was nice. A clear sky, empty pavements in a beautiful city, it couldn't get any better than this ... besides it wasn't like Ireland where it was cold all the time.
tHe blonde kicked the board into his hands, figuring it wasn't the best idea to ride along the pavement before noticing a cardboard box on the street, tilting his head in confusion at the foreign item. Slowly he made his way over to t, looking inside it curiously only to find a dog ... How could anyone leave this dog, it was absolutely adorable!
A ! "Hello little guy, how did you get here? You're a cutie, yes you are" Killian cooed, tickling the dog under the chin before glancing at his recently arriving friend before adding "You too doggy!" |

Luke snapped his head in Killian's direction, empty eyes hardening into a glare at the nickname that the blonde just supposedly coined for him. "I am not a dog," he corrected the guy in a hard voice. Did he look like the thing wagging its tail in the cardboard box in front of them right now? He didn't think so. Not that he hated dogs or anything. They could be quite cute. Like the one in front of them. But like he was ever going to admit something like that. Especially for Killian to hear.
Actually...A thought crossed his mind as he gave Killian a once over. "A golden retriever. You. A absurdly hyper golden retriever," he said. Yes, if someone was to be compared to a dog then it was the childhood companion of his. He had all the traits that a nice dog had, right?
Suddenly dogs didn't seem that cute anymore.
He felt something wet on his fingers. Turning his attention back to the puppy, he saw that it was playfully and deliciously licking his hand. He lifted the hand up and away from the puppy's reach before bringing it back down on the little head to ruffle it once more, earning yet another happy bark from it. For a moment, his eyes sparkled at the second cheerful response from the pup at his touch.
Cute.

Luke didn't seem to think his little joke had been all that funny, though he wondered sometimes if Luke actually possessed a sense of humor. "I should have corrected it, you're not cute at all" the blonde replied with a pout, sure it had been lame but Luke could at least make out that it was a little bit funny. Gosh he was grumpy sometimes, but that's why Killian was there; to turn that frown upside down! The only reason Luke could be cute was because he was short, but he figured if he pointed that out he'd probably get kicked in the shin or something. It wasn't his fault he was taller!
"Golden Retrievers are really cute though! Are you saying I'm cute Luke eh, eeeh?" the Irishman replied, nudging his friend in the ribs with what he hoped was a cute grin on his face. He was probably going to get hit by Luke for that one but whatever! It was still funny to him, except when he found something funny, Luke didn't tend to agree.
Still the dog seemed to really like Luke a- was he smiling? No, not quite but his mood seemed to have improved slightly. "Great, I've been replaced by a dog" Killian replied, crossing his arms over in what could only be described as a mock tantrum. Besides, he had found the canine first, really it should like him more than Luke!

Luke flinched and nearly fell over when Killian playfully nudged him in the ribs without warning. He glared at the grinning blonde. Oh, how he really wanted to wipe that stupid smile off that equally stupid face. He raised his hand and smacked it into the pretty face. Well, no one said that he couldn't go through with it.
"No, that's not what I'm saying at all," he said, withdrawing his hand back. "It wasn't a compliment." Could the blonde not see that? Probably not. Or maybe he did but just had to turn it into a joke. He never really did get half of the stuff that spewed from that chatty mouth. Someone should invent some permanent duck tape for him to seal Killian's mouth closed forever. Would using super glue to stick his lips together while the guy was sleeping work for at least a day or so?
"You were replaced by a lot of things, Killian," he said, tone of voice indifferent, as he lifted the puppy out of the box. The puppy nudged Luke's nose with its own. He instinctively backed his face away from it. However, a second later, he had to quickly force the faint traces of a small smile away from his face before anyone else could see it.

It wasn't a compliment? "You couldn't just be nice to me for once?" the blonde moaned, pressing his head into the blue haired teen's shoulder. Jealously really was one of his worse traits but he was getting over the dog for crying out loud! Why was the dog getting all the attention and how did it just get Luke to be so nice to him? "I'm gonna take it as one, because I'm totally cute and you know it."
"Like what?! You really hurt me, you know that right?" the blonde replied, stroking the dog with a frown. He couldn't stay mad at the dog because it was just so cute, he could just be annoyed at Luke instead. He opened his mouth to add to his statement before the dog was shoved in his face, Killian taking it from his friend and sitting cross legged on the floor.
"Aren't you a cutie" Killian muttered before the dog managed to crawl out of his lap and back towards Luke. Honestly it was like being a third wheel, like the clingy friend ... actually that was effectively what he was being. However something caught the corner of his eye, the blonde grabbing a note in the box and skim reading it before letting out an aww. "Lukie he's been abandoned!" he muttered, holding out the note to Luke. Now that was just sad! They couldn't leave him there!

"Whatever helps you sleep at night," Luke said with a shrug as he directed his attention to the puppy in front of them. Though the blonde was not really helping himself at all if he keeps on deluding himself like this. He really was downright stubborn an annoying. Can't even take an insult.
Luke nodded when Killian asked if they he knew that he was hurting him. "I see no problem with it," he said as Killian took the dog from his hands to shower it with his affections instead. Really he didn't. Since forever ago Killian had ended up being his and Reno's verbal punching bag. And he never really retaliated, so it could only be assumed that he was perfectly fine with it. And to be quite honest, a part of Luke appreciated him for it, no matter how annoying he may be.
Luke took the piece of paper that Killian was waving in his face. He scanned it over. Lowering it down, he looked at the little puppy who's eyes were staring right at his. Was it just him or did those blue eyes appear to be almost pleading him to take it home? It was probably just his imagination, right?
For a couple of moments all he could do was stare back at the puppy, almost completely forgetting the presence of his childhood friend as he mulled over the though of should he or should he not.
"What do you think?" he let the question slipped through his lips without any sort of clarification of what he was asking about.

"Oh it does, trust me!" the blonde replied with a grin. It didn't, but he wasn't going to give Luke the satisfaction of turning him into a miserable grump. Besides he was adorable in comparison to Luke and that was pain as day, though he supposed that Luke's scowl would be appealing to some people.
He saw no problem in hurting him!? People would wonder how they were still friends, Killian wondered sometimes. After all at the hands of Reno and Luke, the Irishman was a punching bag, but Killian never seemed to care. He knew at the end of the day they'd be there for him, they were friends after all!
"You could always keep him?" the blonde replied with a shrug, going back to stroking the animal before glancing at Luke. "It seems like you've made a connection with it, can't just leave him here, right?" he added. If Luke didn't take him in, then Killian probably would. He couldn't just abandon the dog after all!

Well, Killian seemed to know what was on Luke's mind as he told him that he should keep the puppy. Even if Killian hadn't said that, he probably would have ended up taking the thing home with him. Hana would love it and no one at his place was allergic to dogs. His dad actually liked them. It was a surprise that they didn't get one sooner.
He lifted the dog up so that it was standing on only both its hind-legs. "Do you want to come home with me?" he asked. Not that he was really expecting any sort of reply. It was just a dog after all. That was why he couldn't help but allow a small smile to make its way onto his face when the puppy barked in reply. "Look Killian, it shows signs of becoming smarter than you are." He couldn't help but poke fun at his friend.
He scooped the puppy into his arms and stood up. "Hey, help me buy some dog food," he told Killian. "You should know which one taste the best, gold retriever." That said, Luke started walking away in the direction of the nearest pet store he knew.
Looks like he just gained a new family member today.
