She'd come here with Nathan, but forty five minutes into the party she was without him by her side and lazing around the keg with a few like-minded people. She wasn't drinking, of course, but she'd picked up some pretty good cupcakes on the way here.
He wasn't exactly the last thing on her mind, but it wasn't her job to babysit him.

Heavy footsteps thudded against the stairs, followed by 'get the fuck out of my way' and 'get the hell over here you're dead you stupid shit' and of course, people who were actually on the stairs being shoved aside so two pairs of feet could do a thirty second marathon down the stairs, and for Nathan, running around looking semi-apologetic and semi-arrogant.
He eventually made it to the room Tara was in though, and barely uttered a word before he ran behind where she was sitting, gripping onto her arm as he watched the 6'02" guy duck through the door and stare down at him grimly.
"Your turn now Tara, you do it. Get rid of him." He gripped onto the fabric of her jacket hard, face looking somewhat passively worried.

She didn't catch any warning of Nathan's approach, but one minute he wasn't there and the next he was and Tara saw trouble coming in the form of a very tall, familiar, angry looking guy.
She looked over her shoulder at Nathan, and if she was a cat she might have hissed. Or clawed him, just for the sake of disappearing and then showing up just so she could watch him get his ass kicked. She snorted at him. "What did you do this time?"
Her gaze softened on the tall guy when she turned to look at him. Of course, Nathan had to hit on a girl with a boyfriend this big. At least it was someone she knew. She shrugged apologetically. "Sorry, dude. Can't keep it in his pants, you know?" She wasn't quite sure if she was trying to help Nathan anymore or not.

Nathan was a boy who didn't even know how to spell the word 'fear', never mind admit when he was scared. He knew when to admit defeat and when he knew one wrong word and he'd end up in hospital though.
"I didn't do shit, alright? Well... y-yeah okay, we made out a little, but she offered her vodka, and like, next minute I had no idea what's happening and like, I'd never make a move on her, I have you for that Tara, I swear to god!" He was atheist, but that didn't really matter right now. He looked up at the guy, now pretty happy he had someone to defend him, even if she was doing a shitty job at it.
He then moved to face her, but not too much to get far too exposed in enemy lines. "What d'ya mean! I keep it cool at the time man! I'm the definition of cool, right! So stop putting me down, Jesus Christ!"
Before the guy could possibly make a move though, he moved back to his defensive position and continued to stare, albeit bored.
"You with this piece of shit, Tara?" The big guy asked, staring at her in disbelief. "The guy's a fucking coward, and he gets off with other people's girlfriends." His lips pressed in a straight line, cold glare shooting at Nathan's way. "What's your deal?"

Tara rolled her eyes at Nathan's crappy explanation. It wasn't quite an excuse because the story seemed totally plausible, but Nathan was a dumbass, and the guy in front of them was proof of that.
"More or less." She said as way of explanation, ignoring Nathan for the moment. "It's kind of an open relationship." Honestly, she wasn't sure what it was. Nathan wasn't an enigma and neither was she, but when it came to their chemistry it wasn't something she could decipher easily. It barely ever felt real.
"Nathan, you really shouldn't get with chicks that are taken." She put an arm up on the chair and suppressed a grin. "It's like you're in heat. Maybe I should spray you with ice-cold water."

The guy shook his head, unamused, gave Nathan a strong warning and headed off, and the room returned to its usual voice level. When drama went down, everyone wanted to watch, not get involved.
Nathan then grabbed one of Tara's arms and started rubbing it like some lucky lamp. "Oh I fucking love you Tara, you're the greatest." He then looked up at her with a cheeky, lazy grin, not at all caring what she was saying about him.

Tara let out a sigh when the big guy walked away, rubbed her forehead with her free hand and glared at Nathan from behind her fingers.
"You're lucky I knew him." She muttered, lowering her hand to poke him sharply in the forehead. She leaned forward, over the arm of her chair so that her nose was almost touching his. "I was more than tempted to throw you to the dogs, you know. Getting with other girls, Nathan? It's not like I'm your girlfriend or anything." Was she? It didn't feel like a real relationship. She hadn't even felt serious when she'd said it; the words were empty. They didn't mean anything.

He closed his eyes and kissed her deeply, cupping her cheeks and eventually wrapping his arms around her, cradling her like a child as much as he could without attempting to knock her out of her chair. Eventually though, he parts without a lingering breath, kissed her on her forehead and pushed it back with a finger.
"That's good enough return payment, yeah?" Nathan stood to his full height, smirking. "Wait, nope." He picked her up after that.
